Hi. I’ve been having no luck printing photos from my usual places. I have a ton of cd s loaded with old photos from my old computer. I no longer have a computer, just an iPad. I’ve been printing them at Walgreens. That is total hit and miss. Mostly miss.
Just this week I ordered a Epson PM 400. ( refurbished ) From a recent thread here. Thank you for that. Now I wish I would have ordered one that can print from a cd. Is there a printer reasonably priced that will do that ?

I'm not sure about a printer that is able to print directly from a CD, but if I may suggest it, if those CDs are the only copies of the photos you have, it would be a good idea to get copies made or upload the photos to the cloud. If those CDs are the only copies, I'd caution against shipping them to a service, just because (even with tracking) there is a small chance the package could get damaged/lost and you could lose all your photos. There may be a local computer repair shop (?) that could help you. Or you could try to find a computer you can use, like at a library or a printing/office supply place like Staples/Kinko's/etc.
I know that isn't what you asked about, but when I was a teenager in the 90s, my family's house burned down and we lost a lot of photos. Luckily, we had time to evacuate and grabbed some albums, but there are priceless photos that we lost because they were the only copies and weren't digitized (not so much a thing back then), so it's a topic that hits close to home for me. Anyway, good luck with your photos!

You will need a computer with a CD/DVD drive in order to print from a CD. There are no printers that have a cd drive that I've ever seen. You also cannot connect an optical drive to an iPad so I would suggest trying to get those photos off the CD and into a cloud account (like Google drive, Amazon photos, Shutterfly, etc).

Thank you for replying. Darn it. Now I don’t know what to do. Both of my dd who live here have iPads. Could I get them printed at UPS or Office Depot ? Could I buy a not expensive computer to print these from using my PM 400 when it arrives ?
It’s always worked out decent doing it at Walgreens. But it’s not dependable prints. Thanks so much.
eta - I just saw your suggestion to go to a computer repair shop. I’ll look into that.

If you have a local library and they have computers available for usage, I would check there to see if the computers have disc drives and if they'll allow you to use the drive.

This is what I would suggest as well. Or perhaps a friend with a computer who would let you move in for the afternoon. I’m pretty sure gamers would have a real computer rather than a tablet, maybe a friend’s child plays?

Thank you for replying. If I do find a computer, what do I do ? It’s been a very long time since I’ve had a computer. I have so many photos on cd s. I can pull them all up on Walgreens kiosk, but I think my only option is to print them. And their printing has been bad lately. Do I send the file of photos to my e mail ? If I get access to a computer.

If you have an Amazon account, you can upload them to Amazon Photos and then access them and download them whenever. You would put the disc in the disc drive, then sign into your Amazon account and navigate to Amazon Photos and click on Add then Upload photos. You may want to get someone who uses a computer on a regular basis to help you as it's hard to tell you the steps through a post.

Thank you so very much. Seems like photos are a huge part of my life. I’m always making scrapbooks or cards from them. I have lots of actual pictures and then all the ones on my phone. And those many cd s. Thanks again. 😊

If you aren’t tech savvy, have someone upload the photos to your iCloud account. They will then be on your phone and iPad in Photos and you can use a multitude of apps to print them. You could ask a friend or pay someone.

If your local library doesn't have computers with CD drives, you might ask if you're allowed to bring your own. You can purchase a portable CD drive that attaches via USB (quick Google search: External CD drive). This would allow you to hook it up to their computer (I assume it would be allowed if they have USB ports because people bring stuff on USB drives to our library, but perhaps the type of media could be limited?) and insert your cd. Then you'd open up the internet browser to a cloud service. Once on your Cloud service site (I assume if you have iPads, you might pay for additional storage through iCloud?), you can upload directly to your cloud or Amazon photos as suggested above. It would definitely be easier and cheaper though, if as suggested from other Peas, you just find someone with a desktop computer.

Does an Ipad have a USB port? If you are going to buy an external DVD rom as suggested above, I wouldn't bother with taking it to another computer-just attach it to the Ipad and upload your photos from the CDs to the Ipad. Going to another computer is just adding steps. An external DVD rom is pretty cheap. You can usually get one for $20 or $30. You can also get an adapter for USB to C port to hook into the Ipad if needed. Or, you may actually find an external with a C plug on it. Or a lightening port plug. Whatever it is on an apple. Someone at the library or your local museum, or other historical place, may be willing to get the photos for you, or help you do it. Or, know someone who could do it for you. I'm just saying that because they may do that type of work anyway, so they would know what and how to do it.

There is no USB port plus iOS does not support optical drives.

Thank you for replying. I’ve asked everyone that I think would help me out and no one has a desktop computer anymore. My family is strictly apple people. It looks like the town next to me has a computer fix it guy who may be able to help me. I’ll start with him tomorrow and if not, go to my library, which is small, next. I pay extra for cloud storage for my phone. I also have Amazon. Thank you so much. 🥰

Go to Ebay and search Epson Picturemate 240, 260 or 280 models. All of those printers have the ability to insert a CD and print from it.

Thank you all for the help. Yesterday I went to my library. I’ve never used their computers before. They have cd drives and after figuring it all out somewhat, I uploaded the pictures I wanted to Shutterfly. Well, I thought I uploaded them. But there is nothing there. Maybe I didn’t click save. Not sure. I’d rather have them in Amazon photos because they are quicker. Since it was free, I’ll go back and try again. I will check out those printers amom23. Thanks again.
