I love to read…but as some one said I don’t like the clutter. I also rarely seem to be able to sit and read so I switched to audio books. I can hike, walk, clean, drive, craft etc and enjoy ‘reading’. I thought I would hate audio books…I don’t (unless you get the odd narrator and you so t care for their voice or style). I also noticed I walk/hike farther because I want to continue hearing the book (I wear bone headphones so i can still hear the outside world) My first experience with audiobooks were books on CD that DH would choose for road trips. He tried to pick things I would like and mostly succeeded but I still didn't love the experience. A couple of years ago I tried again with audiobooks on my phone and I love them! The difference to me is that I can speed up the narration. I usually run them at 1.2x the regular speed. I was just listening to a novel while quilting. It does make everything, including dreaded cleaning, go faster.

I love physical books! Growing up, we went to the library regularly. Later, I started buying paperbacks, and going to a bookstore was, and still is, my favorite thing to do. I had quite a collection of romance novels, and I would reread them. I don’t keep my novels anymore, except for maybe 10-20 favorites. I do have a lot of art and craft books that I keep for reference.
When the kindle first came out, I used it a lot. But, I don’t read digitally too much anymore, maybe because I am on my digital devices too much as it is and I like to give my eyes a rest.

Back when I had daydreams, goals and ambitions of having a home with a floor to ceiling Library and tea room and a over-sized chair and love seat for reading, I had tons of books....all in boxes. Anyone giving away books, I took them. I moved all those boxes of books several times, from home to home.
Then, I downsized and simplified my life. I gave away most of the books that I had collected.....to someone who actually had built a new home with a Library and tea room. I've been over there for a cup of tea(or two) and dessert a few times, and love how her Library has come together. It makes my heart happy, to see her home Library.
I kept my favorites (mostly self help and scrapbooking-mixed media), and have a added a few new books along the way. Just counted.....I have 23 (two of which, are two books from my childhood). I add to my small book collection, if I read a book that the majority of the book speaks to me, then I buy a copy. Otherwise, for me many books are "one and done....read it and on to the next book". These days, my reading is mostly ebooks.
I love the look of a home Library, but life ebbs and flows and new dreams take place of old ones......my dream-which is now a reality..... of living simply and in a small place/home....over-rides any current desire for a big home Library.

No. I read on my iPad or books from the library and I listen to audiobooks while I work out. I have copies of a few books that I really like so I can loan them but I seldom re-read books. The idea of a floor to ceiling library of books that never get read is a little too Downton Abbey for me.
I got rid of hundreds of books when my Dad died, some of which were still in the bag from the bookstore. No, thank you. I'm not a hoarder.

I purged all of my physical books about 10 years ago. They just took up too much space and with my eyes getting worse the small print made it hard to read. On my Kindle I can increase the text size so it's a lot more comfortable for me. I kept a few favorites and a few favorites of my childhood books but that is it. I read only on my Kindle now.

I read a combination of books and a Kindle. I almost always use the kindle in bed and books if that’s what strikes my mood. Audio books are great when I’m cleaning, cooking, or crafting. But like someone said above, if I have to flip around in a book or use it for reference, I prefer a paper copy. I reread some and some are just old friends that I like to revisit.
Over the years, I stopped buying or keeping hard copies of books. We moved so often with the Air Force and books are heavy. They only allow you so much weight to move your household goods! About 10 years ago, we had a move with over 100 boxes of books and I had to say enough.
Then dh retired and we moved into our first purchased house in September. DH put beadboard on the back of our bookshelves and we bought 2 more. Last night, we finally unpacked the books. I’m happy to say that there’s some space to display chatzkies and lots and lots of room for books. One wall of the living room is shelves and we talked about doing the opposite wall as well. We shall see!

You can also read those library books on your Kindle. I borrow my library books either through the library's website, or through Libby, and in either case it goes to your Kindle. I know but having both the phone and the kindle for reading means I don't have to carry the Kindle with me all the time.

I put all physical books in a little library a few years ago. I didn’t have a lot of them, but I don’t think I ever will reread them, and they were just taking up space. I’ve been reading library books on my cell for the past 7 years, and it’s been fine. I hate carrying an extra tool just for books (I used to carry an iPad just for the books). I noticed my wrist was getting sore from holding it up (on the train). I will never go to physical books again, mostly because the print is a little fuzzy now. Granted, it’s all the cell use that probably jacked up my eyes. Or old age.

For myself I have both physical and e-books. I read cookbooks and really enjoy them. Majority are physical hard copies. My various food magazines are e format now. Free and I am not taking up resources.
Sometimes I like to get an e-book and if it is one I really enjoy, I will buy the hard copy. I love this as if I am not sure if the cookbook will be a winner, I am not taking up space.

Over 10 years ago I purged my book cases and donated at least 75% of the books I owned. We had 3-4 full book cases at that time. We are down to 1 book case. It now has books "2 deep" on the shelves and a stack on the floor in front of the bookcase. We have some Little Free Libraries in our town, but they are always full when I stop by. After our public library opened again after Covid, they now have a book cart near the circulation desk with free books...drop off what you don't want, take a free one if you want it. I am now taking books to that cart when we visit the library. I have a Kindle, but prefer to read physical books. As others have mentioned, it is much easier/faster to find something in the paper copy than to browse the Kindle.

I used to buy and collect hardback books. Now, all we have hardback are my Harry Potter collection, a GOT collection, and an Apollo collection. Plus all of our reference & self-help books, some hardback some paperback. All of our fiction is eBooks.

I use my kindle or kindle app only and donated every book we had. When my parents died, I dealt with 27 huge boxes of books. Luckily we were able to sell them as a lot to a local to them quirky used bookstore, but literally hundreds of books. It was very overwhelming.

I’m of the age where we have our names on a Senior Living place. I got rid of all of my books but a few and put all of my recipes on an App that I love. If we ever do move, all meals are provided plus they have a library.

I only read physical books and I am a huge collector of books. For my birthday and Christmas I mostly ask for books. I have a large selection of Jane Austen books, Bronte sisters and Louisa May Alcott. I love the different covers. If I find a vintage copy of a book I love reasonably priced I will buy it. I don't buy myself much of anything all year but I do treat myself to books. I have a local bookstore that host book signing events so I am amassing quite a collection of signed editions. If I read a book and love it I try to find a signed edition for my collection.

I probably have 20 physical books in my TBR pile right now, but over 200 on my Kindle. I go back and forth on reading physical versus kindle. I agree with others, that being on a computer/phone so much now has really messed with my eyes. I will usually read one on my kindle an then a physical book. I need that break from the kindle I've found. I don't keep any of mine either. I'll give them to my cousin if I know it's something she will read or my mom. If it isn't something either would want I take them into Half Priced Books. Don't get much in return, but can usually get 2-3 books with the funds that they gave me for what I brought in. I will go to the library sales seeing they are so cheap. But even then, I don't just grab like a lot of people do, I actually read the description before deciding to get it.

I used to love the look of books on a bookshelf and envisioned having a home with a big library someday, but I only read books on my iPad and I can't see ever going back to physical books.
The only exception is cookbooks. I love physical copies of those.

I don't collect books in general, but I keep the ones I buy, if that makes sense. In that sense I collect them. I can't do digital books, so all of mine are physical and I prefer hardback. I reread my faves but mostly I just keep them for no good reason.

Not novels but I read my cookbooks… over and over! I have about 75 of them! I will sit on the sofa with a glass of wine, while my husband watches football, and go through a few cookbooks. I use post it’s to mark the recipes I’d like to try for the week and then show him. We live trying new recipes.

I found I stopped reading as much when e-books became a thing. I like the tactile experience of real books and I love books as part of my decor. Books spell cozy to me. I do give away a fair amount but I keep a lot. I also use vintage books as decor a lot.

Not any more. I still have physical copies of some of my childhood/young adult favorites. But I only use my Kindle for new books.

I rarely reread a fiction book, so for those I generally check out physical and ebooks from the library.
For non-fiction and resource books, I really prefer a physical copy for the same reasons others have mentioned. I do buy some of these but try to find them at the library first. I usually have several dozen unread non-fiction books in the house. My intentions are good lol.
We have a TON of books in the house. Even with using the library a lot, we have always liked to have a good collection at home for the kids too. I thin them out from time to time, keeping the favorites of course. Dh likes fantasy and sci-fi stuff that some of my kids like too, so those are definitely read multiple times.
Right now I feel like going through some of the shelves again. I usually donate to library sales, but it's the wrong time of year for that so I will either put them on Buy Nothing or some of the little free libraries.

Yes I love books. I keep certain authors. I could make a lot of space if I got rid of them. But my heart LOVES them so much. I do reread them as well. I don't think my kids will want them either and I know I won't get much money out of them. So I just enjoy them for now. This kinda made me sad.

Our family had a very large collection but we've had to purge and donate since the kids moved out. We are trying to downsize and consolidate digitally. Books are quite the pain to move.

I used to use the library but once I discovered the Kindle I've never looked back. Love going on holiday without taking 3 big books with me and then having nothing to read as I've read them before the holiday is over! I do have a few reference books that I have kept and have the Harry Potter series as I bought them as they came out.

Yes. I buy and keep. I also have an ereader and a phone. And I just unpacked a bag full of books I forgot I bought a few months ago. I also frequent my local library. I like being surrounded by books.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE books!!! I had to declare a ban on purchasing physical books. I just have too many. I've started borrowing books from the library through the Libby app. It's great. If there's a book I want to read, but it's not available through Libby, I buy the digital version of it.
If I don't discipline myself to do digital only, my house would look like a library!

I use a kindle exclusively. Now and then, I will buy a physical recipe book, but not often. I have enough other clutter, so I don’t need book clutter.
