Remember those? Did you get caught up in the mania back in the day? When it was over, what did you do with your collection?
I didn't collect them but watched coworkers go nuts over Beanie Babies.

OMG, DD#2 collected them (just for fun, not value) and had a ton of them. When she moved cross-country a few years ago, she sorted through them and got rid of most of them but kept a few favorites. She was right at the perfect age for them (~8-ish) and played with them a lot!

Yes, I got caught up in the craze. I still have the original 12. I also have a few of the “special” ones (Diana, Maple, a few Japanese ones, etc). Even bought the label protectors. I had multiples. I eventually sold the rest or gave them away.
ETA - I even knew to look for certain colored tags. I think black edging was the rare ones, while red edging was common.

I was in my early 20's and travelling a lot for work on my own. So I collected them as a hobby in my travels. I had a ton at one point. But got rid of a bunch of them. I still have most of the Bears that I had, but they are packed away. I need to pull them out and probably get rid of them, or most of them. But they aren't hurting anything for now.
It was never about the money for me, just something to do while I was on the road.

My grandson still has a whole tub of them. He and his dad are pac-rats, so hopefully he will turn them loose one day.

My girls played with them as toys- mostly the older two - they were 5 and 3 when the started loving them and accumulated many. And when those little mini beanies babies were the happy meal toys we went there a lot. Lol Fast forward, they were all in a big box and then pared down to favorites - I think they each kept a special favorite and the rest were given to our dogs as toys. They love them!! They are a great size for catching. One of them looks exactly like my Chloe and we say, “where is your mini me” and she finds it. Lol It’s nice that they get a second life and it’s also fun for me to see them strewn about just like when the girls played with them except now it’s my dogs .

Ds22 only needed 3. They were all cats. A white one named Marie, and orange one named Toulouse, and a dark grey one named Berlioz. He already had a big white cat he named Duchess, though it took him asking for the kittens to understand that he meant Duchess, because he called her Cutchess, and still does. 😉

My best friend and I were a little nuts collecting them. I still have two big tubs, hiding somewhere in the basement.

We had A LOT of Beanie babies because our dd's adored them! Now they are adults and when we divorced and downsized they each chose one to keep ... "Korn" the unicorn and one other made the cut! I kept my purple Diana beanie baby and Beanie Buddy!

I wouldn't say I got "caught up" but my kids and I enjoyed hunting for them.
We donated most of them eventually, though I saved a few of them for sentimental reasons.

I never got caught up in the craze, but I think several of them are really cute. My accountant went crazy for them and her husband built shelves that completely encircle her home offices, even going up over the top of the windows. She has them in little clear plastic display boxes to keep them safe and dust free. I have no idea if they have any monetary value, but she just loves them.

I never got into the craze and my boys cared nothing about them. (Sure do wish I had the very early, original Pokémon cards they were obsessed with though.)
The auction company I worked for had them pop up in sales pretty often so a lot of people did buy them. We once did an auction for an older couple who literally had thousands - we auctioned them by the boxload. It was insane how many they had.

There is a movie about it called "The Beanie Bubble" starring Elizabeth Banks, Zach Galifianakis, and Sarah Snook. It was pretty good. It's on Apple TV+.
My youngest and her friends liked them. I still have a bin of them that I saved because I could always have a quick gift handy when I saw my sister's grandkids. Now that I have grandkids, I'm getting to the bottom of the bin.

Not me, but I remember the craze and especially recall people claiming certain ones were going to be worth a fortune one day. Which were the “most valuable” ones???

I know a couple of people who thought they were going to be their retirement fund. My nephew's wife is hoarding some kind of toys NOW for the same reason. 🤪

I bought specific ones. I have lots of holiday ones that I put our for decorations. I tried to get ones with my children's birthdates. I bought the birthday bears. I probably have 100 of them. My kids have some.

I was a big collector back in the day! My favorite is the Princess Diana bear that a friend got in London for me. I still have a few of them but most went in a garage sale.

I loved them and my DD was the perfect age for them. We had so many. I kept them and now my grandkids love them! Boys and girls. They always get them out as soon as they come over. Now they have super hero ones, and my DGKs love SpiderMan and Hulk.

My boss went crazy for them but she was smart.. she got all the good wanted ones and sold them off for a profit pretty quickly. We worked downtown Denver and our office building was attached to a mall. There was a little children's boutique that got all the ones in and she was a preferred customer. I would go with her to pick up her stuff. I bought some.. maybe 20 (edited I think maybe more 30-40) in all. I still have them. No reason other than I am not digging them out. I once went through them to see if I had any of the pricey ones but I didn't see any. Otherwise I'll sell them off one day I guess just to get rid of them.. or probably give them to my grandson I suppose. The only one I will keep is the Princess Diana one.

My sister and I bought many of them for our daughters. They displayed & played with them for years. Eventually all ended up in tubs in the crawl space. Years ago I pulled them out and started giving them to our little chihuahua to play with. She would eventually get them ripped open and they went in the garbage. Once my little Pixi passed away the rest of the beanies went on a garage sale for $1 each. Even then they didn't really sell so they ended up donated to the Boys Club for their thrift store.

I had a couple of them just because they were cute, but the craze hit during my college years and early employment, so I (luckily) didn't have the disposable income to buy them!
We did have several of the McDonald's mini ones. They were great when DD was potty training as special rewards!

A woman I worked with tried to buy them all. She would brag about finding the "rare" ones that would eventually pay for her daughter's college!

I collected them for my kids. I remember driving all over the city to different McDonalds looking for certain ones. LOL My mom was obsessive about it. I bought them and let my kids play with them. My mom would buy them as gifts, put them in the little plastic cases with a plastic tag protector and threaten the kids that they better NOT play with them! When my oldest daughter was about 4, she bought the Princess Diana one and OMG, you would have thought she was gifting her a crown of rare rubies. The thing that sucked is that my daughter wanted nothing more than to play with it, mostly because it was purple, which was her favorite color. I had to hide it on my closet shelf because I didn't want my mom to freak out that she was playing with it. My mom was convinced they were all going to be worth SO much money someday. I think I still have a tub of them somewhere. Maybe that is my way to finally get rich. LOL

I loved them. My kids and I had lots of fun finding them (and buying them). I eventually gave away about 98% of them (maybe 200) to a women and kids shelter with the agreement that they would be given away to the kids and not sold in their shop. I kept some of my favorite bears.

Me and my two daughters would have a lot of fun searching for those Beanie Babies. I think we have a couple hundred of them. None of the rare ones, of course.
They are sitting in containers in my basement. I should get them out and let the grandkids have them.
