MIL had so many of those. some were in those acrylic boxes because they were supposedly rare. flash forward years later when she was moving out of state. she couldn't unload them at her yard sale if her life depended on it. SIL was supposed to give them to someone to list online but i don't know what happened with that. i think they're still stuffed in that giant plastic tub.

Yes, I will admit I got sucked into the craziness. Donated tubs full to a local organization to be put in Christmas baskets. I did keep Princess Diana as I bought it during our 25th anniversary trip to England.

I have the best beanie baby story!
My sister and (both in our early 20's during the craze) started buying a few, and quickly realized that we had no idea what we were actually doing with them. They were very popular in 1998/99 and we decided to sell the ones we had on EBAY. They sold for triple what we paid for them, so we started hunting, collecting and selling. We had some that we bought for $10, and sold for over $100.
We pooled all our money into one account, and went on a sister's vacation with our profits. In 2000 we bought a 5 day pass to disneyland (for $99! I still have the ticket). Neither of us had ever been, and we had the best time. We had a really good time going out to hunt for them too!

None here but I do remember a manager in my company had a break-in at his house. They stole his daughter's beanie baby collection. I think it was valued at about $700 or so at the time.

We didn’t but I had my son premature in Alberta in 2005 and the NICU used beanie babies to prop up the ventilator tube in the isolate so I have two from his 5 month stay. I cherish those beanie babies so very much.

I bought the ones I liked, mostly bears but a few bunnies or other animals. I also bought certain Boyd’s Bears that I liked too. I still have all of the ones I bought. My sister gave me some of hers when they moved out of state, and after my BFF’s mom passed away she gave me a huge tote full of them that her mom collected. I have a bunch of them displayed in my studio because I think they’re cute and DD has some in her room too.

My brother has a bunch and looked them up and said they weren’t much except the really hard to find ones.
My niece just got one and wanted to rip off the tag lol! I was like no you can’t 🤣 that has their name and birthdate!

I thought they were cute, but luckily that was something I never got into. I never had a single one, even as a gift.

My youngest son was gifted a cute Beanie Baby cat that he named "Heap". Heap went everywhere with us for years and years and now sits in the top of his closet. He is 14 but can't part with his favorite Beanie Baby.

Did anyone see the Beanie Baby movie recently? It kind of explained why the beanies lost their value. Really sad.
I never bought them but I had co-workers that would leave work to go to McDonalds if they heard new mini beanies were out in the happy meals.
I went to the house of one of those co-workers and it had beanies in the clear boxes EVERYWHERE!
I often wonder what they eventually did with all of them.
