I see women of all ages wearing black stretch pants EVERYWHERE! From the grocery store to the office. Are they yoga pants? They seriously dress them up or down like jeans. They look super comfy. Are they as comfy as they look? Are they acceptable to wear as business casual? Where is the best place to get them? What brands and stores should I shop for them? Any links? They look snug. Are they for all body types? How do they not have panty lines? TIA!

I think they are ok for business casual only when worn under a long tunic/sweater/dress. Then they are more like tights. You can find them all over. I like Lululemon. I only wear them when working out. I may run an errand with them on if I am going or coming from the gym. But I don’t really feel comfortable wearing them like I would wear jeans all over the place. As for no pantry lines … many gals wear them without underwear or with thongs.

I wear legging type yoga pants a lot. Sometimes with a sportier top for exercise and household chores - sometimes dressed up for errands and general life. I consider them to just be a comfy pant option. I also have a few boot cut style ones but wear those less often. Jeans are my other favorite choice than yoga pants. I honestly can’t remember the last time I had on a pair of true dress slacks.
The panty line issue just doesn’t bother me.

I have three pairs; two have a bootcut leg and one straight. Two are Lululemon, and I also have a long, LLL duster I wear over them sometimes. I personally wouldn’t wear them to work, but I don’t think that’s a universal rule of any kind.

I realized about 10 years ago that I really hate jeans in general so I was never going to find some I liked. My other go to are khaki pants. I do have some semi dressy capri and regular pants in black and navy. I might wear a pair of those once a month. As for where to get them, all the women's clothiers geared toward middle age have their versions. Talbots, Chicos, J. Jill. Several of mine have come from Land's End and LL Bean. LL Bean used to make my favorite ones but they changed fabric and widened the leg and I don't like them as much as I once did. I have skinny leg knits, wide legs and straight legs. I wear them with just about any kind of top and shoes depending on where I'm going. When a pair gets some wear on them, they are converted to every day.

I’m in the minority here but I hate yoga pants. I do wear joggers for running errands and exercise.
I also love jeans. I’m also liking the cargo pants out now.
My DDs in their 20s wear them for most things but not work. All 3 work in different fields and it’s specifically listed in their dress codes. I know my dd who is a teacher had too many people push the envelope with them.

Do you have a picture? I can’t figure out if you are referring to leggings (that are tight in all areas, including the leg opening) or what I consider to be yoga pants (basically similar to leggings but a little looser and could have different leg openings (straight, boot cut, etc). Or I suppose you could be talking about joggers. I need a photo to be sure. ETA that here are some photos of pants with different leg openings/joggers.

I don't wear yoga pants much anymore (I wear joggers and leggings) and I wear joggers/leggings everywhere. I don't worry about lines. If someone really wants to stick their face in my ass to check, be my guest.

We are pretty casual here at my office but yoga tights are a no-no here.
Outside of work, I prefer joggers over tights. The Athleta Venice jogger is my all-time fave.

Almost daily I'm wearing either joggers or boot cut yoga pants.

Because I go to the gym 4 days a week, and walk every day, I wear them every day. But I wear leggings--yoga pants to me are flared, which I don't like because I find my shoe gets caught up in the extra fabric and I trip myself on stairs. I look for leggings that are seamless up top and have just an elastic waistband--I don't like the horizontal seaming going across my belly because for some reason, it pulls down my underwear. I get mine at Old Navy and I think Gap Factory. They are comfy but by the end of the day, my body is feeling irritated by all that Lycra and I change into cotton pj bottoms.
I never wear leggings with my ass hanging out. I don't have panty lines because I have no extra flesh on my butt--it's all in my belly. I have several sleeveless tunic tanks with high cut sides from Old Navy that I wear over them for the gym and for yoga, back when I was able to do yoga.
I used to wear them out under a tunic sweater and tall boots but I've kind of gotten away from that.

There are thicker pull-on pants that have the feel of yoga pants but are appropriate for work. They tend to have wider leg openings. The fabric is either ponte or scuba knit. I have one pair of these that I sometimes wear to work. Mine are bootcut and the thick fabric makes them less sporty looking.
To answer your question, I wear regular yoga tights, bootcut pants, and joggers almost anywhere and everywhere, but not to work. Athleisure can easily be styled to look a little more dressed up if I want to look cute. Athleta is my favorite brand for tights though I also have joggers from Old Navy and Amazon.
I am “mid-sized” in the newer parlance (size 18) and age 50, and don’t see any issue with wearing yoga pants in public. If I’m concerned about panty lines, I just wear vanishing edge panties.

I love yoga pants. I only wear actual leggings to the gym. I prefer yoga pants over jeans. The ones I get have pockets and are thicker. I have 3 different brands right now. I found these on Amazon and absolutely love them. Yoga pants.

I have tights from Lululemon and I wear them to work occasionally. No issue with panty lines as I wear seamless underwear.

Let me caveat this to say I'm in my mid-30s and have worn legging as pants since I was in college, when I feel like they started really becoming a thing. I am an avid legging wearer not only because they're comfy but because I'm usually wearing athleisure. Trial and error/recommendations are how you find the right leggings that stay up, are not too thin, and don't show panty lines easily. That said, panty lines are a thing — some women wear thongs. I opt for the laser cut undies and am careful whenever I go to the bathroom to smooth the undies out when I pull my leggings back up. There are some really good leggings for not that much $ on Amazon. I also will NOT wear leggings to a business casual (or better) setting unless it's super cold and you're subbing them for tights (like under a dress, with boots, so no one even knows they're leggings). But for a casual office? I totally will, but I won't let my butt hang out, even though I am ok with that on a day to day basis. Something weird about being with co-workers, ha. For a casual, anything goes office, I would wear them with a long cardigan/sweater that at least covers my butt. If you plan to wear them with "regular" clothes (like not athletic or athleisure clothing), then you have to find the right material, too. You don't want ones with lots of seams, side pockets, or shiny material. Yoga pants with flared or bootcut hems are back in style, esp with Gen Z. I don't want go back to the early 2000s, ha, so I won't be partaking in those, but if you like them more, you're in luck?

So happy Athleta has petites. I don't think leggings are really that comfortable (they always roll down in the waist) so I rarely wear them except for when I am exercising. I am more likely to wear jeans or joggers when running errands or going to sports. At home I wear comfy joggers. I used to have some "yoga pants" that were bootcut or straight leg and kind of wish I had kept them since they were the right length for me. But I am sure they weren't high waisted like what is popular (and what I am used to) now. I don't see many people here wearing anything but leggings or joggers yet. The only underwear that I buy are the vanishing edge panties from Soma. They don't show and stay in place.

My favorite are the Vuori daily legging in black. I do *not* like leggings with longer tops, that looks very dated to me. I think paired with a semi cropped top and Jean jacket it’s very cute.

Well, we are pretty casual here at work. Jeans worn mostly every day. I have only every worn leggings on a Friday when I was the only one here and knew no one would be showing up. However, I either had a long tshirt on or a long sweater. Yoga pants to me are a more casual pant. And in my mind, always have that flare. Which on my particular body type just doesn't always work well. However...I did pick up a pair from Walmart and just wore them for the first time last night. They felt fabulous, were thick and oh so comfy. Here is the link for them: www.walmart.com/ip/Avia-Women-s-Flare-Pants-Sizes-XS-3XL/2308656090Would I wear them to work? Again, only on a Friday, when no one else was here. I will most likely wear them out to grab groceries or run errands. I will usually always have a longer tshirt on with these types of clothes. Now leggings are their own beast. They, to me, are tight fitting down the leg. Like you would work out in. Again, longish shirt. Leggings, as long as I know they are not see through, I will wear with a shorter shirt. But still not to work. Joggers. I have 2 pairs that are a cotton material. I do wear those to the office. I don't think I have a soft pair.

Boy now I am confused.. I guess I wear some of all types.. I have leggings that I wear with longer tops and I can wear those to work. They are very lenient on that. NO jeans though. So weird. Although a co-worker of mine is one step from looking homeless 1/2 the time, I don't know how she gets away with some of her choices. Tennis shoes, strappy shirts, tee shirts.. but as long as NO jeans.. So back to what I wear.. leggings with longer tops.. I don't care about panty lines.. I personally feel unless you are wearing bright spotted green and blue underwear that shows through your pants, who cares. A line? I never understood that even when I was younger. It's literally two lines... big deal. I wear some yoga type pants that flare a little at the bottom, I typically don't wear those to work. They are not cotton, but I think lycra.. kinda of stretchy and I have some cotton thicker ones that sometimes I will wear to work. Usually if the weather is bad and they are comfy. Not sure what joggers are.. are those the ones with cuffs around the ankle? If so I don't own any.
