Last year my 11 yo dd started an Etsy store because it was her goal to have her own store. It was slow going until last month when she made glitter Christmas ornaments with a certain singers album (ahemerasahem) name on it. Sales have been crazy so dh, oldest dd, grandpa, grandma, my sister and myself have chipped in to help her. Her listing was deactivated because of the artists name. She removed the name from the title and description and relisted again. A few days later the sales picked back up and have been strong for almost 2 weeks. Last night it was shut down again. Since the artists name is no longer in the title or description she is stumped at what she needs to change to relist and be okay. She definitely doesn't want to get suspended because she has finally built her store up and as of right now qualified to get the star seller badge.
Both times there have been a few other shops that have went down too but there are a couple that use her name in the title and description and have not been inactivated. I am not saying that as an excuse but as in we have tried to research others to see what we can use and it is hard to tell because I think some just aren't on the radar yet. The only thing she can think of is the tags? Does she need to remove her name from the tags too? I had assumed not because how else are her (and the others) going to show up in searches without it.

I’m sure if she has the artist’s name or even the album names in the tags, that’s what’s causing the listings to be pulled.

She should not be selling anything that uses the artist's name or title of albums without written permission to do so. It doesn't matter if she removes the name from the title/description, what she is making is still illegal if being sold for profit. If she really wants to have a proper business, she needs to learn all the legalities and follow them. Read up on copyright infringement.
As for why some are pulled and others are not, it could well be a competitor reporting her. Happens all the time.

Her plan as of this morning was to switch to making personalized ornaments. She had just placed another order for 30 sets of ornaments so she is hoping that she would sell enough to use up that stock. I guess where my confusion came in is because there are a ton of Taylor items out there, Disney, Starbucks, Barbie, Friends, The Office, Star Wars, etc that I would venture to say the majority of Etsy items are illegal. Again, this isn't a big deal because she will probably transition to the personalized ones. At the same time she bought the material for the ornaments she bought stuff for some other ideas she had so now she will have time to focus on making her chunky yarn Christmas trees, etc. Just moreso confused by the entire thing.

Good luck. I'm not sure what to tell you, that sucks! My son-in-law does wire wrapped jewelry and he started an etsy store. It was only up for a couple days and got suspended. We had no idea why since they were all handmade by him and he wasn't copying anything trademarked or anything. He tried to dispute it and went through the process and was shut down. It won't even let him purchase anything on etsy now. It is so crazy! I don't even think a human looked at it since there was nothing wrong with it. I feel so bad for him because he is in college and does it as a hobby and was hoping to earn a bit of money to help put him through school. But there was never a reason given and I had looked the site over and really no reason it should have happened.

Probably because Esty has not yet activated an AI program to screen for copyright issues. FB is suspending and deactivating accounts like wild fire lately. They can afford AI.
The company I worked for built a new building and wanted to name our conference rooms something other than mouuntains as were the names used in the current building. Someone suggested Disney names. We wrote to Disney and asked permission and was politely told no. We were not going to be making money off the rooms, so a lot of popular name brands are pretty stingy with their names.

It may be random and it may be somebody reporting her.. and maybe since they pulled her 1st listings shes sorta on the radar...
there really is no rhyme or reason why some listings get pulled and some of the exact same thing get to stay.. Its all a crapshoot... hopefully since she has some visibility it will be easier for her to get customers...
Its not easy to ETSY!! lol
