Aw, so sad. I prefer to think of it as she has gone ahead. They had quite the long love story.

The world is poorer without her. What a gracious lady she was.

So sad but what an incredible life and love she had. I have always respected and loved her and Jimmy. Two of the best. RIP, Rosalyn. You have certainly earned it. ❤️

Just heard ON MSNBC that they 'met' when she was several days old.... Mrs Carter, the midwife and Jimmy's mother, delivered Rosalynn, and brought Jimmy to see her when he was 2.5 yrs old.

I just saw the announcement. They had a long run together. It will be hard for him being left behind. RIP Rosalynn.

My condolences to former President Jimmy Carter, their family, and the workers of their foundations.
They shared a beautiful love.

Sorry because it is the end of an era. She and her husband seem to have had a truly lovely long life together.

I read the book First Lady from Plains many years ago. It was a great read about an exceptional family. I was expecting that he would pass away first based on his health issues. She’ll be there waiting for him. A 77 year marriage - so many things have to go right to have one.

She was such an inspiration to so many women, including myself. My late husband and I were volunteers for President Carter's election. While we never got to meet them, both of the Carters were held in the highest regards from my dh and me. I'm afraid it probably won't be too long before Jimmy joins her in heaven, given his age and health.

A true loss. And sadly, I agree with peppermintpatty. In the way of such things, he may even have been "waiting" for her. I don't want the world to be without him, but he's been on hospice for so long now.

I thought for sure he would pass away first since his health has been shaky for so long. I don't really remember much from that era but seeing them doing so much after his Presidency was wonderful. Still building houses until (what? 5-10 years ago?) They never slowed down. May she RIP.

DH and I were a bit weepy last night upon the news and reading even more about her life. What a woman. What a great love they both shared.

What makes me sad is that Jimmy is without Rosalynn. I mean this is the most heartfelt way but I hope he passes soon so he doesn't have to live without her. That pain just has to be unbearable for him.
Also, I had no idea they had 4 children! I would have bet money that Amy was an only child. I'm absolutely shocked!

i didn't expect her to go so quickly but i'm sure he would have preferred not to leave her behind if he went first. now i'm worried about him. you know what they say about couples who are that close.
