So we are at a buffet restaurant for breakfast. I just watched a teenage boy pop a cherry tomato in his mouth. He was standing at the food bar and used his tongs. Yuck! Who does that??? I told the manager and he quickly pulled the container off and swapped it out.

After watching Kitchen NIghtmares I have a hard time going out to eat. Gordon Ramsey goes in the back of the kitchens, many times the refrigerators have mold, there is slimy meat, or cross contamination. Gross!!

I watched a guy (probably in mid-20's) pick up a sandwich from a buffet with his fingers, look at the sandwich, then put it back on the buffet. I just looked at him and said Oh no, you did not just put that back on the plate. Who wants to eat that now? Put that back on your own plate! He looked rather sheepish, but did pick it back up, apologizing the whole time. I just shook my head.

Yeah, it's mostly kids that do this stuff. Although some adults can be just as nasty.

This is why buffets really gross me out. People are NASTY. I hate to say, but after having worked in the food and hospitality industry, EVERYTHING grosses me out. You would not believe how gross employee behavior can be in restaurants, or even in kitchens that cater for big venue events like wedding receptions, and the such. Food dropped on the floor, picked up, and still served. Employees helping themselves to a bite of food off a customer's plate seconds before it goes out the kitchen door. Old food, out of date condiments. Yuck. I only like to eat at home now. When I do eat out (even at the dreaded buffet) I just close my mind to all the "gross" and enjoy my meal. If I allowed myself to think about it, I would never survive the experience) |

Once at a sushi place I saw a little girl putting chopsticks in her nostrils then put them back in the paper wrapper and replace them. I definitely had to tell the server he should probably replace all that table's chopsticks!

Reason #432 why I don't eat at buffets. I agree though, if we knew what went on in the restaurant kitchens we would probably never dine out.

Reason #432 why I don't eat at buffets. I agree though, if we knew what went on in the restaurant kitchens we would probably never dine out.

Oh and watch the places that make your food to order (subs). I saw a rather large guy with short arms making sandwiches and his arm pits were wet. He reached back to get some lunch meat and his armpit landed right in the lettuce. I decided not to order.
