Here is a question for the old timers on here:
Everyone mentions lines that they miss from the past. Basic Grey and October Afternoon seemed to be mentioned the most. Is there anyone out there not crazy about those lines? Are their other companies that never were really your thing?
I love, love, love Basic Grey. I have hoarded it and I'm not sorry. So many fantastic lines. I'll be making pages with it until I die. Their embellishments were really unique, too.
But October Afternoon? They had a couple of lines I loved. Witch Hazel and Midway were fantastic- I bought a ton of it and I still use it. But I'm a white paper fan and most of their paper and stickers were not white. Everything was retro, which is fine for some things, but I found a lot of their themes too narrow to use. I have quite a bit of it I'll probably never use. Loved their alphabets but their flair all rusted and flair from some other companies didn't
I don't get the love for Chatterbox. The paper was tissue paper thin and I thought a lot of their stuff was uninspiring. There was one pink, purple, and orange line that I loved but most of it was boring.
Scenic Route was another company that did nothing for me. It was okay but nothing unique about it.
Rusty Pickle was dark and weird. I do have a maniacal rabbit paper from them I'm saving for something special. Seriously, that rabbit is deranged. It makes me giggle.

I didn't love Rusty Pickle. Too worn for me (also why I dont like TH papers). I loved Sass A Frass Lass alphabets but didn't really use their papers like everyone else. Basic Grey lines could be hit or miss for me. A little goes a long way IMHO. But I loved their chipboard, alphabets, and embellishments.

Chatterbox for me too. I loved Rusty Pickle but it was hard to use.

Making Memories or was it Memory Makers? Wasn't a big fan.
Also Little Yellow Bicycle was mostly a miss but they did have some hits.
Anna Griffin. WAY to flowery and girly. Hard to use.
Becky Higgins.
Daisy Ds.
7 Gypsy.
Bo Bunny. Ugh. I just couldn't get their papers to work for my style.
There is another and I can picture it but don't remember the name. I think it started with a K.
Oh and CM. Never liked their products I tried.

There are lines that I loved then that I don't love now, and old lines that I love now but didn't at the time.
Basic Grey is an all time winner for me...loved it then and love it now. I only wish I would have bought more of it. I love, love, love it. That said, I have a hard time scrapping with it. I keep telling myself 2024 will be the year I actually use some of it.
KI Memories papers...they are thin, but I still love every sheet. They had some sheets with a pearlescent finish and text print all over them. I treasure those.
I didn't care for Sassafras, but have since hunted down a bunch and treasure it.
I loved Chatterbox...now I find it quite basic and the weight of the paper bothers me. I made one layout where I used it to back a cut-file title. It was very effective for that, and will likely try to do that again.
I am meh on my Scenic Route...certainly not bad. I just need to make a point of using it. It doesn't excite me.
Rusty Pickle was always too dark for me. I still have some of it though.
I bought a lot of K&Co pads from Michaels. I made a cute layout with one line, but I have to confess a lot of it is the "ugly" paper that I use when I need to "wallpaper" a sheet of paper and completely cover it.

I thought Rusty Pickle was hard to use too. Too much brown and distressing for me.
I liked Chatterbox just fine, I thought the more muted patterns were easier to use. But I didn’t like the paper weight and feel. It kept me from going too crazy purchasing it.
SEI was one I really struggled to use. Lots of big patterns. Odd colors that didn’t look nice with my photos.
3 Bugs in a Rug is another one I struggled with. Good colors and themes for my kids at the time but the patterns were oversized and overwhelming.

I didn't "get" Basic Grey until right before they went out of business, now I love it and wish I had more... I was more into cutesy and DCWV because I had babies and toddlers to scrap. OA papers (except that breakfast cereal line, that one is too themey) just go together really easily when I decide to dig into the stash, and I always really like the pages I make with it. Never much of a Bo Bunny fan... There was one company, I bought one paper pad from and I can't think of who it was... The paper was green, orange, had ferns and leaves and tree stumps, and was a "boy" line. It's going to drive me nuts until I figure out what company that was. Maybe Little Yellow Bicycle? Anyway, I hoard every scrap of that paper, but never paid attention to anything else they created for some reason

Rusty Pickle was dark and weird. I do have a maniacal rabbit paper from them I'm saving for something special. Seriously, that rabbit is deranged. It makes me giggle. rusty pickle was dark and weird! the quirky cousin of the other companies. LOL. but i liked them. the neutral colors worked for me.

Scenic Route, Rusty Pickle, Bo Bunny - there were individual pieces that I liked but not a fan in general
OA and Basic Grey I don't think I bought back in the day but I'm happily using the pieces I've gotten in destashes.
Anna Griffen was beautiful but other than a few pieces I used for DD23's baptism photos - it wasn't usable for me.
I LOVED Chatterbox but owned very little because it was expensive and I was broke.
I mostly scrapped with the Stacks and cardstock years ago and rarely bought the good paper - typically I would place an order after the tax refund arrived...Lifetime Moments was my online store of choice back then.

I didn't "get" Basic Grey until right before they went out of business i'm the opposite. i didn't get them during the later years when the designs got too geometric or funky for me. i have lots of the earlier papers and still enjoy using them.

I posted in the unpopular opinion thread about Basic Grey. I wanted to love it and did use it a bit but two years ago gave my stash to my friend who loves it!
I wasn’t “In the know” about lines for many years and didn’t use Sassafras, October Afternoon, Scenic Route, Rusty Pickle…I’m sure there are more.

I've never liked Basic Grey. All their collections looked dark & muddy to me. I've also never liked Bazzill paper. I'm not a fan of textured paper.
Of the ones that were still around in the heyday of scrapbooking, the few that I liked (sometimes) were Making Memories, Pink Paislee, October Afternoon, Cosmo Cricket and Glitz Design. They were still hit and miss with me, but had some cute collections I enjoyed using in card making.

Digging a little deeper and less conventional for companies I don't miss too much:
Arctic Frog Cactus pink Scrapworks SEI
I was "over" Chatterbox when they closed up *but* they were a company that introduced double sided pp and I think raised the bar in the scrapbook industry.
Sassafrass was not my style.

artbabe, I guess there really are papers out there that we didn't like. I didn't buy much Chatterbox but did like the patterns but the papers (like lots of it back then) was super thin. As for lines that I never cared for: Little Yellow Bicycle SEI most of Scrapworks

I don’t like Basic Grey at all. I got a bunch of it in a de stash box from a local Fb marketplace and I pushed myself to use it, but I don’t love the layouts I made with it. The paper is too grungy for me.

I peered into my vault, and I have a little of everything, so "never say never", I guess. There were times when I just rode out a trend and didn't buy much.
Overall, if it was dark, distressed or grungy, I skipped it (unless it was non-distressed black and white; I love clean black and white patterns). So, the whole "brown with everything" phase, I was hunkered down with KI Memories and Scenic Route and anything graphic and colorful I could find.

October Afternoon. Not into the retro Americana look Colorbok. It was just under 12” x 12”. Irritating if you wanted to use it for borders or place it in an album back to back with a full 12 x12” behind it. Chatterbox. Their paper had that odd texture look but wasn’t actually textured. Hampton Arts with those chandeliers and mustaches Sassafras Lass K& Company
Rubber Baby Buggy Bumpers stamps Zettiology stamps Autumn Leaves stamps Stampendous and those House Mouse stamps. They weren’t cute they looked like real disease carrying rodents.

I'd say Anna Griffin. All too girly for me.
I have most of the manufacturers that people have posted. I might not have loved all of their lines (Basic Grey), but a few of their lines were amazing. I wouldn't say I didn't like a manufacturer as much as a specific line they made.
Some manufacturers like CM and CTMH seem to have more muted colors and I really don't use them either,

What a trip down memory lane! I didn't appreciate Basic Grey until more recently. I did have a couple lines that I've used up.
I bet my cousin has every line BG ever created. She probably still has it stashed.

Chatterbox - I still have the Rec Room "Walls" paper pad...why??? It's ugly - I need to purge! SEI - I had quite a bit of their paper and liked some of it but most of it wasn't for me. They were regulars at the Scrapbook conventions though so I did take several mini book classes from them and they always had great "deals" on paper which is probably why I bought it. Anna Griffin and most K&Co was too frilly/floral/girly for my taste. LOVED Basic Grey though and still have lots in my stash! Ryann - I loved Glitz Design too! That's not a company I hear many people talking about. I still have some in my stash

Anna Griffin wasn't for me either. It looked pretty, but didn't go with what I needed at the time. Otherwise, for the most part, I could find something to use in about every brand. I've never been too much of a brand follower, I just buy the colors/patterns that speak to me. I like to mix and match.

Definitely not a fan of: . October Afternoon - categorized in my brain as "creepily nostalgic," like something out of a nightmare. Basic Grey - dull and grungy - blech! Anna Griffin - too busy and too floral. The photos get lost in the paper. (She is still around, though, and I still don't like her products.) Chatterbox - the texture gave me the shivers.
I'll add more if I think of any.
Graphic 45 - still around, and still scares me; definitely too in-your-face for backgrounds.
