Can we talk about Kit subscriptions again, or is this a done and over topic? With Paper Person probably closing shop, I’d like to find something else. I do PL but in 12x12 spreads, so I don’t necessarily need pocket cards. But I do like receiving monthly, seasonal product. I have a lot of 6x8 paper leftover from both PP and Elle’s Studio, so I’m thinking Hip Kit may be my best option. I’ve heard so many people say that HK product quantity was too much and overwhelmed them, so that’s keeping me from pulling the trigger. Any other kit recommendations?

I resisted for a long time but finally caved with HKC when they went to exclusive products. I enjoy getting them in the mail but they are starting to gather after a year of subscribing. My problem is I enjoy using different supplies and challenge myself to incorporate older products in a current vibe. If you do subscribe, I wouldn't mind if you give them my name. I believe both of us would receive a grab bag.

I forgot to say that I love their PL kits for the all the layering possibilities. It seems we scrap similarly so wanted to offer that.

Thank you! I’ll take a look at their PL kits, those weren’t on my radar.

I love the Ali Edwards stories by the month kits. I also think there are some good options from Freckled Fawn and Cocoa Daisy that would be worth looking at.

I was thinking about Freckled Fawn or Hip Kit pocket pages kits, I like the Freckled Fawn sub because you can do a version where you pick what you want instead of receiving the full kit (or you can get the full kit if you want), but I'm not always keen on the designs (lots of florals that I'm not fond of, etc). I was looking at Hip Kit as well and they seem good, but maybe it would be okay for me to not get another kit if PP stops making kits because I have so many supplies I'll never use them up.

I'm glad you started this thread. I was beginning to think about it too. I've done PL for just a few years now and I used Elle's Studio for a while, but then things started to feel the same. This past year I have used Freckled Fawn and I've enjoyed their kits. I feel like I get just enough product with the kit to scrap my month and then not have a ton of stuff left over. I might just continue with them because I'm pretty happy. But it's always good to see what's out there.

Thank you for the reminder about Freckled Fawn. I almost subscribed last year, but last November’s kit was all black and white, so it threw me off. I just took a look and it seems to have a nice balance of 12x12 paper and embellishments.

Don’t laugh, but I don’t think I’m smart enough to figure out Ali’s kits. I feel like she has several kits going on, with similar names. I bought the quarterly one with colors/facts and feelings/etc and I never can remember what the kit name is.

I think artbabe just tried a bunch of kits that have 12x12 options. There may be a thread on it too. The [Not] Just for Boys kits are nice and seem fairly unique. Hip kit is a little too pink and pastel for me, at least when I’ve looked at them in the past. Club Scrap apparently still has a kit option which has tempted me many times. I used to sub to Cocoa Daisy but I was getting too much and not using it up quickly enough so I stopped. I like the products but you have to like her style.

I just cancelled my Colorcast Designs kit...I love her work, but I am currently overrun with product from my sub that needs to get on pages before I go back.
I have been contemplating Hip Kit Club for some time. I am trying really hard to resist, but their product is so lovely. I might treat myself to some past kits prior to taking the plunge. I will be closely watching this thread to hear what others have to say.

Have you thought about playing along with Shimelle's Best of Both Worlds idea (I assume she still does it) ? She tells you what stuff to put together and then shows you how to use it. You can read about it in the bottom part of this post.

Don’t laugh, but I don’t think I’m smart enough to figure out Ali’s kits. I can help with this! You are definitely smart enough. It's just very confusing as the names are so similar. Story Kits: Themes. A kit full of stuff all about a theme. These can be digital or real product. (I think the digital is called story class just to add an extra layer of confusion). There is a stamp option that is separate. You can download a free class to see what it's all about. Stories by the Month: These are monthly kits all about a month. January will have new year stuff, Feb, lots of love. October has Fall stuff, November is about more fall and giving thanks, Dec. is usually very christmas holiday themed. The digital is called inspiration by the month. Scrapbook kits: Like story kits but they have 12X12 paper in it and you get the digitals for free. Only 4 per year. Hope that helps!

I love watching Shimelle and often have her videos playing while I scrapbook. Her personality is charming and I’ve learned a lot from her. I’ll take a look and see what she recommends. That’s really what I’m looking for, someone to do the work of putting patterns together.

I think artbabe just tried a bunch of kits that have 12x12 options. There may be a thread on it too. I ordered kits from the following companies and made layouts with them: Hip Kit Club Cocoa Daisy Club Scrap Not Just For Boys Every club except for NJFB has all exclusive products. NJFB has some exclusive products but the majority are not. What I found: Hip Kit was pretty fun to work with. I bought two kits. I liked the paper patterns and the mixture of embellishments- both flat and dimensional. I looked at a lot of their past kits and they seem to do almost everything in the same pastel color range. I liked my two kits but I don't think I'd want 12 kits that all looked the same, basically. They don't seem to be tightly themed, which was a plus for me. Overall, I liked it. Cocoa Daisy gives you a huge amount of product but it is all flat and I like a little dimension. I did like the paper patterns and the variety of things included, including vellum and rub-ons. I think their kits tend to be too tightly themed for me, however. I looked at 12 month's worth and there were 2 kits that I thought I could get use out of and the other ones were not themes or color schemes I would use. Cocoa Daisy used to be my favorite way back in the day but they have lost some of the art style that used to appeal to me. I liked my layouts I made with it and I'm going to make quite a few more, because there is a ton of product. I probably won't buy this very often, though. Club Scrap is old school scrapping. Lots of cardstock in their kits and only two patterned papers. Their ephemera is on cut-apart sheets. The paper is shiny, which isn't my jam, but some of the patterns were really unique and appealing. Club scrap includes fibers/twine/ribbon in all of their kits, which I love, and usually some kind of metal charms, too. So the embellishments are pretty fun. The kits are designed to be used according to their directions so you have to be pretty creative about going off script. I enjoyed making layouts with these kits but I probably won't buy any more of these kits. Not Just For Boys is the one that uses non-exclusive products. I actually like this kind of kit. I have a lot of paper and it is cool to see how they mixed up lines- I tend to scrap within one line so it forces me to be more creative. This kit usually includes some kind of mixed media and/or stamps, stencils, etc. Most of the kits include a large die cut, too. The exclusive NJFB doo-dads are really fun- I love charms and patches and things like that. The kits have dimension. NJFB offers a lot of a la carte items, too, some exclusive, and I buy a lot of that, too. NJFB is by far my favorite kit club- I've been buying their stuff since the first month they opened. I love that most of their stuff is versatile and not overly gendered. I scrap boys and it is nice to get away from pink and flowers all of the time. So my ranking would be 1)NJFB, 2)Hip Kit, 3)Cocoa Daisy, and 4)Club Scrap. All 4 have the option to buy the kit outside a subscription- NJFB does not have subscription- you buy by month.

No worries, I feel this way whenever I look at a new brand's website (especially Cocoa Daisy when I first looked... there are so many options)! Ali does have quite a few options... but her main monthly subscriptions are "stories by the month" which are seasonally/monthly themed and "story kits" which have specific one word story themes. There are lots of other releases periodically and some quarterly kits, but those are the only monthly ones. If you're looking for something that is good for everyday life with a seasonal spin (for northern hemisphere) then I would check out the Stories by the Month (SBTM) one, I really love the quality/style/size/price... you can find info on it here: aliedwards.com/subscribe/stories-by-the-month ETA: I didn't see @blemen's response before responding but she summed it up well!

It's funny -- I've never subscribed to Hip Kit, but when the owner had a bricks-and-mortar store, I was in there all the time and she was awesome with great products; now I'm going to consider subscribing.
I dropped my Kelley Purkey and Ali Edwards subs a while ago because I got bored with them, but it sounds like you're looking more for full-size kits than PL-type kits. I do still have a Studio Calico documenter sub, but I'm dropping it in the new year; I haven't been thrilled with it for several months now, as it stopped seeming coherent.

Thanks everyone for all the comments. I wanted to see what Ali’s kit changes would be, and since I really want 12x12 pp included, Hip Kits looks like it will be awesome. I love that it’s a 3 month commitment, so if I am drowning in product by February, I can take a break. I love starting fresh PL projects!

Mercy Tiara has started a kit club. mercytiarakits.com/ I love her YouTube channel and have followed her for so many years. I do think you can buy kits without subscribing (as available) if you wanted to go that route. I miss my Felicity Jane kits.

Anyone have any recommendations for kits that aren't usually themed to the month? I do essentially no themed scraping - I will never need or want an entire kit's worth of Christmas paper, or Valentine's, or what have you. I'm never going to make an Easter layout or need paper that says "SUMMER!" on it. Looking around, almost every one I've looked at has Christmas stuff for their December kit, which is turning me off from subscribing anywhere.
Edit - Having posted that, Cocoa Daisy might be the closest to what I'm looking for. I don't mind having cards/stamps that say the month, or paper that's seasonal (their December kit is snow-themed). I just don't want super-specific holiday stuff.

I'm going to sign up for Scrapbook & Cards Today's new quarterly kit subscription. I've always liked what they've done in their scrapbooking events, so I think it will be a safe bet. Here's the link: scrapbookandcards.com/lets-create-together/Does anyone know if you can buy just 1 Ali Edwards scrapbook kit, or do you have to subscribe for a year? I've been considering trying hers, too, but I don't want a year-long commitment, I really just want to test one out.

You can look in the “kit” section under catagories on her website and find a few choices of older story kits and SBTM kits. You can also test out a single current kit by choosing the month to month option under subscription. If you chose this, after you order you can immediately contact customer service and cancel - if you don’t cancel you will be charge each month for the kit. The month to month option is a higher price than the 6 or 12 month sub.

Yes, the quarterly scrapbook kits come with the digital files as well. I’ve always thought the scrapbook kits are the worst value of the kits- there isn’t enough product to justify the price in my opinion -but I also don’t use digitals. I do have some of the kits though anyway. lol

Club Scrap's kits are themed, but not to the season. Their blog has all kinds of ideas for using their kits to scrap events that you might think don't "go with" the kit's theme. Their materials are very high quality, but some of their patterned papers are glossy and I know some of you don't care for that. You can purchase anything in stock on their web site, but subscribers get discounted pricing. A full unboxing video is released each month a few days before the next kit ships, so you have time to skip the month if you don't care for it. You can skip two in a row and still be considered subscribed. Once you skip a third, you will need to resubscribe, which you can do at any time, even the very next month.
