I know - horrible name, but from what I have seen on TikTok, it looks like a yummy snack to have on hand during the holidays. It involves several types of crackers, ranch seasoning and other spices and flavored popcorn oil mixed up and left to sit for a few days.
If you have made them, do you have a recipe to share? Also, I really don't want to make them in a garbage bag, do you have another container you use?
TIA!

I have eaten this, but never made it. I would also like to see a recipe or two.

I agree that it has a very unappetizing name but I had to look it up just to see how it is made. The first recipe I looked at called for 12 ounces of Orville Redenbacher popcorn oil. I can’t imagine eating anything that has 12 ounces of oil poured all over it. The individual cracker components also contain their own oil of some type so that is going to be incredibly unhealthy. I was all set to give this a try, but I cannot consume that much oil and salt.

Basically it’s Chex mix that a lot of people make at Christmas. It’s called garbage bag because it’s like four boxes of rice chex four boxes of corn chex etc. It makes a huge amount There’s no way I would put Orville Redenbacher‘s popping oil all over it except when you think about it and you look at the amounts of crackers and peanuts, etc. maybe it’s not so bad.

It’s 12 ounces poured over an entire garbage bag worth of crackers. It’s just enough oil to get the seasoning to stick to the cracker and you’re acting like it’s the same as drinking oil with a straw 🙄

That sounds like the same “sauce” that we use to make seasoned pretzels.
(2) 1# bags of small pretzels (1) bottle of Orville Redenbacher butter flavored popcorn oil (1) pkg dry ranch dressing mix 1/2 tsp dill 1/2 tsp garlic salt (I use garlic powder, the pretzels are salty enough)
Mix all of this together. The recipe I have says to let it sit for the oil to soak in, shaking the container frequently during the first 24 hours, but I prefer to put it in a big roasting pan and bake it for about an hour at 250° stirring every 15 minutes. From there I let it cool then store it in the big plastic jug that pretzels or cheddar cheese corn balls come in.

You could use a large storage bin/Rubbermaid type bin. I think that it would be better baked because I love crisp crackers/snack mix. I doubt that it’s anymore unhealthy than chips. And as a single person, I’d never make a snack for my personal consumption in such a large quantity. It’s meant to be shared.

I haven’t heard of that but I have a pretzel recipe that is like Dot’s pretzels. The garbage crackers sound good. ETA that my pretzel mix is similar to Crazy4scraps but with vegetable oil instead of the popcorn oil, and no dill.

The name is like trash or Puppy chow Chex mix. That’s yummy too!!!
We call them firecrackers or crack crackers bc they are so addicting. We don’t put them in a garbage bag but I haven’t made them in a long time no think I’ve used a really big jumbo ziplock. Maybe I made half of the recipe at a time. But they are good! We add red pepper flakes to give them a kick!

I made firecrackers for Thanksgiving and they were very popular. I had no idea that my 10 year old liked crushed red pepper, but apparently she does!

I just use a huge Tupperware bowl and stir them up several times a day. They are good to eat the next day. I also buy unsalted pretzels to save on some sodium.

I hate Chex mix and puppy chow and anything like that, but this sounds like something easy to make that others would like so maybe I'll check it out for a party.

Haven’t ever made it but would make it for a party. Might try the smaller batch recipe posted.

A big tote works good for mixing big batches. I don't make a super huge batch, because I am not packing it up for gifts. I mostly make caramel corn, using Puff Corn (SO GOOD). Good butter matters in this. Don't use Costco or other store brands. Too much water in them. I use LandOLakes, but i know a lot of people swear by KerryGold. Puff Corn Caramel Corn. I also have a mix that is white chocolate drizzled over a pretzel/cereal mix. You add M&M's and make some super cute Santa hats by dipping Bugles into red melting wafers. I use a dehydrated marshmallow for the white pom top on the hat. Much cuter than a mini regular marshmallow. I use Ghirardelli white chocolate melting wafers for the white chocolate. They taste great. Sometimes you can find the dehydrated mini marshmallows in the Hot Chocolate area of stores this time of year. I just order mine from Amazon. I reseal them with a food saver to keep them longer. Santa Hat party mix.

Here's my recipe, I like that you can make smaller batches! 1-1/2 Cup oil – divided into ¾ C 1 packet (1 oz) Hidden Valley Ranch Seasoning / Salad Dressing & Recipe Mix – divided into .5 oz (14 g) 2 TBS Crushed Red Pepper Flakes – divided / to taste 4 sleeves Saltine Crackers 2 gallon-size Ziploc bags Prepare in two batches Put 2 sleeves of saltines into each Ziploc bag. In a large jar with a tight sealing lid, or shaker, add ¾ C oil, half-packet ranch seasoning, and 1 Tbs crushed red pepper flakes (for less heat, use less pepper flakes). Shake until combined. Pour mixture into Ziploc bag directly over the crackers. Seal the bag without allowing too much air. Gently rotate the bag to coat all the crackers with the seasoned oil. REPEAT. Lay each back flat on a baking sheet and rotate periodically to distribute seasoning. Let sit overnight. Transfer to cracker tin or add to serving platter when ready to eat.

I was going to comment on her calling me stupid, but everything I wrote sounded too hostile so I decided to just let it go.

I have noticed this poster loves to post outrageous posts to get a rise out of people as its her way of getting her jollies off. By not responding, she didn't get the satisfaction she was looking for.

This sounds like something we used to make about 20 years ago with oyster crackers, O.R. butter flavored popcorn oil and ranch dressing mix. Shook it up in a brown paper bag. Guess everything old becomes new again!
