We are looking to update our master bathroom and we’re leaning towards a tiled shower enclosure but have now seen that there are acrylic panels available which emulate tile. Looking for feedback from any peas who have used acrylic panels or if there is a significant downside to the acrylic option. Thanks

I have yet to see an acrylic “tile” surround that actually looks like tile.

Wouldn't they scratch if it were necessary to scrub them?
I've seen larger porcelain tiles/panels used, which are supposed to be very durable.

I vote for whichever is the easy to clean.

We redid our master bath about a year and a half ago. I have zero regrets about using tile.
If the budget allows, go with the real tile.

The downside is most people will view the acrylic tile panels as not an upgrade and view it as something that will need changed, should you need/want to sell. In just about every price point in the market, tile is expected, especially in the master bath.
Spend the money, if you can.
That said --- you wouldn't have grout to clean and worry about leaks.

Tile is the standard for master bathrooms. Hall bathrooms, kid bathrooms- those generally will have the acrylic surrounds.
That said- I love the LOOK of my tile (we did it ourselves) and the floor of my shower is 4" slate squares. I hate the scale that I have to scrub because of the water and the fact that mold LOVES grout lines. It's a pain in the ass. The kids bathroom is so easy to clean- soft scrub, scrub brush, rinse and done. Mine takes so much more elbow grease.

DH was talking about 1 of these for his bathroom. I told him that it doesn't make sense to downgrade from tile.

If you're not looking to sell in the next 15+ years, and you like the look of the acrylic panels, I would consider the acrylic purely because it will be easier to clean.
If you do get tiles, make sure you use mould resistant grout and seal. We did not, and now we're looking at having to spend hundreds to get it regrouted (or hours of backbreaking work to do it ourselves).

I would not voluntarily put an acrylic surround in the primary suite. I would expect to see tile in an updated bathroom. If it’s in the budget, I would definitely tile (and don’t use the 4” squares that were so dominate decades ago). And 100% absolutely use mold-free grout and don’t use a dark textured tile.

I imagine you have similar there but wet room wall panels are very popular here. I have brown marble in my en suite and white sparkle in my utility. They just need a quick wipe down. They were my first choice over tile and you can get tile effect anyway. www.panelcompany.co.uk/ I know it’s a UK company, it’s so you get my drift.
