Well, I guess that's OK then. I'm not sure Trump actually knows or understands the definition of a dictator. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/12/06/trump-dictator-day-one-hannity/Fox News host Sean Hannity pressed Trump on two occasions during the event in Davenport, Iowa, on whether he would promise not to abuse his powers upon returning to the White House. In both occasions, Trump circumvented the question and did not outright deny the possibility.
“Under no circumstances — you are promising America tonight — you would never abuse power as retribution against anybody?” Hannity asked Trump during the latter exchange.
“Except for Day One,” Trump quickly replied, prompting someone in the audience to yell out: “Yeah!”
“He’s going crazy!” Trump said as Hannity looked perplexed.
“Except for Day One. Meaning?” Hannity asked.
“I want to close the border, and I want to drill, drill, drill,” Trump said as the crowd cheered.
“That’s not retribution,” Hannity responded.
“We love this guy,” Trump said of Hannity. “He says: ‘You’re not gonna be a dictator, are ya?’ I say: ‘No, no, no — other than Day One.’”
Trump then doubled down on his promise to close the U.S.-Mexico border and expand oil drilling on his first day, adding: “After that, I’m not a dictator.”

The fools on the right don't understand that the first thing a dictator does is take all the guns away. 🤣

After his first day they say there will be checks and balances. Like hell there will be! He has already said 50,000 employees will be replaced starting with day one. He, and his peons are already interviewing for hirers... There will be no checks and balances.... Our democracy will be gone if he is reelected. Kash Patel the one said it was official when TFG said all the documents were declassified by the wave of his hand or maybe magic wand... Read it!! www.democracydocket.com/opinion/donald-trumps-plot-against-america/

So one day of him doing whatever he wants and he will then go back to following the law. Seriously no way someone would do that. He got a feel for the power and now wants even more.
So he is going to jail anyone in government that disagrees with him and the same for the media. He is saying this out loud snd people think this is ok? I wouldn’t be ok with this if a democrat was saying the same thing. This is wrong no matter the party.

Anyone remember the hubbub about the “threat” of President Obama refusing to leave office? It was the end of the world at the time. With Trump, they’d welcome it.
Stupid is terrifying. Eta to rephrase: Stupid is scary. Stupid and gullible is terrifying.

That didn’t take long. Republicans are already making excuses for him. heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/december-6-2023In the Washington Post today, Marianne LeVine, Isaac Arnsdorf, and Josh Dawsey reported that the Trump camp is eager to get people to stop focusing on Trump’s authoritarian talk, noting that Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) says the presidential candidate was just joking when he said he would be a dictator on the first day of a return to the White House. While the Republican base appears to like Trump’s threats against the people they have come to hate, two Trump advisers told the reporters that “recent stories about his plans for a second term are not viewed as helpful for the general election.”

Remember Germany, 1933 when you vote next year. The US is at that tipping point right now.

I wouldn’t be ok with this if a democrat was saying the same thing. This is wrong no matter the party. This was my first thought exactly. After getting a tiny taste of absolute power, does anybody REALLY think Trump would ever want to give that up? Hell no! He has already proven through his earlier life choices that he is the basest, most hedonistic narcissist and those tendencies are so deeply rooted that if he ever got back into power the only way he would go out would be in a body bag on a stretcher. He is the exact type of person the founders of our nation worried about.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I genuinely do not think we come back from a second Trump presidency. I wish people who supported him were more concerned about the well-being of the body politic and would rally behind a different Republican candidate, but the probability isn't looking great. Hurting enemies is the organizing principle, and we're all going to suffer for it if he takes office.

The house side of congress is absolutely non-functioning because of maga republicans which are a direct result of trump. The senate side of congress is barely functioning...look at what maga tuberville was/is able to do by holding up military promotions. The US DOES NOT have a functioning government. FULL STOP. And the American people just don't give a shit. The 247 year experiment has failed.

So true. Why are Liz Cheney, Adam Kinzinger and Chris Christie the only ones with the courage to stand up to Trump and call out his statements for what they are - authoritarian, dictatorial and a threat to democracy.

Cheney and Christie are independently wealthy. Kinzinger not, but is a contributor now on CNN or MSNBC. (Tired, I forget which)
