For months, Republicans have been complaining about Hunter Biden. Now they're in charge, they launched an impeachment inquiry. Hunter Biden agreed to testify publicly, but the Republicans want him to testify only in a closed door session so they can lie about his testimony. Hunter refused so now they're threatening to charge him with contempt. Hunter Biden has offered to testify publicly but resisted submitting to private questioning, saying he is concerned that Republicans will twist his words and selectively leak portions of his testimony without context.
“The committee has demonstrated time and again it uses closed-door sessions to manipulate, even distort, the facts and misinform the American public — a hearing would ensure transparency and truth in these proceedings,” Abbe David Lowell, a lawyer representing Mr. Biden, wrote in a letter on Wednesday to Representative James R. Comer, Republican of Kentucky and the chairman of the Oversight Committee. “We look forward to working out the schedule.”
Within hours, Republicans responded by threatening Mr. Biden with a contempt charge. |

I saw something about McCarthy resigning at the end of the year, but I do not yet know if it is true. If it is, their majority will really hang by a thread. ETA: guess it is true. A bit from WaPo: “Oct. 6, 2023: Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), freshly ousted as House speaker, tells reporters outside his former office: “No, I’m not resigning. I’m staying, so don’t worry. We’re going to keep the majority. I’m going to help the people I got here, and we’re going to expand it.”
Dec. 6, 2023: McCarthy writes in a Wall Street Journal op-ed: “I have decided to depart the House at the end of this year to serve America in new ways.”
No doubt it stinks to be a former speaker, forced to work alongside colleagues who voted to remove you from your dream job. And McCarthy must be irritated, watching current Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) make more or less the same decisions McCarthy made, with much less grumbling and rebellion from the likes of Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) and the House Freedom Caucus.“ |

I think they're claiming nonsense about needing to ask questions in private and public hearings only being for show. They need to know what Hunter will say before a public hearing which is mostly grandstanding. No surprise, the Republicans are mostly responsible for turning hearings into 3 ring circuses? |

How Gym Jordan can do this considering his own failure to appear to a subpoena is beyond me.
It seems Hunters attorney is well on it- quoting Comey repeatedly saying those subpoenaed would have a choice of how to appear. What a little weasel he is- yet he has the gall to call Moskowitz 'little' and a smurf. So juvenile!
