First, DH was laid off from his job of 16 years. He got 16 weeks of severance pay, but he didn't find a job during that time. He still has not found a job in his field. He has been driving for Uber and teaching motorcycle classes at Harley Davidson. He has a third interview today with the CIO of the company. So fingers crossed that he gets this job.
Second, my 8 year corgi, Teddy, had some sores on his hind leg. I just thought he had been licking it. Then he got a terrible abcess on the leg. Turns out it was cancer! He had the leg amputated and is now cancer free. Three-legged Ted is still the boss dog and he gets around just fine.
Third, DH might have lymphoma. He has a biopsy next Thursday.
Lastly, I have sick since about Halloween. I thought I just a tummy bug(students all had it) and ended up with UTI at the same time. My doctor prescribed me antibiotics for the UTI. It sort of cleared up, but I still wasn't feeling well. I was nauseated all the time, so I ended up dehydrated and went to the ER on Nov. 12, they gave me fluids and anti-nausea meds. I felt somewhat better but not cured. Then, I getting ready to go to doctor's appointment later that week, but I collapsed in the driveway and couldn't stop vomiting. My DS(age 23) called 911 and I was taken by ambulance to the nearest hospital. They were concerned about my potassium levels. They should be at least 3.5 but I as 2.5. They gave me fluids, anxiety meds, and potassium. Then sent me home. On Nov. 29 I was at work, but I was in bad shape. I had been leaking pee for at least a week, I couldn't keep any food or liquids down. I called my DH to come get me and he took me to our preferred hospital. My potassium was so dangerously low(2.1) that they immediately admitted me. I was in the hospital for 5 days. I was diagnosed with bacterial kidney infection. I have a gastric sleeve, so my tummy is tiny. All of the vomiting and such caused me to gastroparesis(my tummy was paralyzed and wasn't digesting like it should. It took a day or two to find the right antibiotics for it. So I was on IV potassium, IV antibiotics, and fluids. I have been home since Dec. 4. I am feeling much better and my kidney infection has cleared up. I just have no energy and just walking around the house exhausts me. I am way out of sick days, but I do have short-term disability and because I was hospitalized it kicks in right away. I am going to return to work after the Christmas break.
Some good news...my 82 year dad is cancer free! He hit the 5 year mark. He was so happy to get his port out!
More good news...my parents have gifted us a week in Galveston at the cutest VRBO house. Even though it might be chilly the beach is healing for DH and me.

Do you live in the Houston area? I see that you will be spending the week in Galveston. It’s really nice this time of year, cool goo for beach walking, sand castles and shell hunting. Less crowded. If you are in the Houston area,we should meet up for a quick lunch as a pick me up, my treat!

Wow, you have had so much stress this year. Well, all of you have. Please let us know how things went after your husband has his biopsy on Thursday.
I had a very bad year once several years ago with things like my son’s cancer diagnosis, my ex stopping child support, and a tornado hitting the house. My sister said that I just got everything bad over at once and that the universe now owed me several years that were filled with everything as wonderful as I could imagine coming to me. It gave me a smile to think about.

I don’t blame you for wanting to put 2023 in the rear view! Any one of those things alone would be tough, but all together? Yikes! 😳 I hope your family has a brighter new year coming ahead!

You poor thing; that is just awful! I know a thing or two about living with bad nausea... but I don't vomit because of my phobia... I've trained myself not to, and I have an IV for meds for the nausea. I am surprised you were functioning at all with such low potassium levels; that is crazy low! Will you be able to maintain a normal level now do you think? I'm so sorry you've had such a rotten year. Seems like a lot of people have. I'm glad you're home, but don't push yourself; REST, sleep more than you are used to doing, and drink as much as you can. Take care of yourself hon.

Wow! I think you and I got hit by the same bad luck curse this year.
I had gall bladder/pancreatitis issues that lead to a failed gallbladder surgery that led to a bowel obstruction surgery that led to a pulmonary embolism, each requiring hospital stays. I definitely feel for you.
For me, my issue is always low magnesium when I go in the hospital. Twice now they’ve had to give me iv magnesium and even with the filter it hurts! Makes my arm swell and burn.
I found out yesterday that the PE is still in my lung, so they won’t remove the gallbladder until February at the earliest. I wanted it DONE this year both for financial reasons and so I’d be starting next year fresh. I wasn’t arguing with the surgeon, though, once he said the PE was still there. He said it had been huge to start with but was now just really large.
Here’s hoping the new year brings us all good health!
Some good news- DHs disability was approved and they sent the back pay from June. This will really help as we’ve had to tap into savings to pay my hospital bills.
