I’m a serious baby about dental work. I keep putting this one off. Is it really a big deal? Need first hand accounts lol 😝

I hate the dentist and just had an implant. It was not bad at all. Of all the procedures I have had it was the easiest

I’ve had three implants. The worst thing about them is that they take months. And are expensive. However, they are worth it.

Mine was infected and I had a fistula. I look great now. It was a top front tooth.

You could have the implant done under anesthesia. I have several dental implants and only had novicane (sp) for each one. The same oral surgeon did all of my implants over a span of 20 years (a couple 20 years ago then another couple about 5 years ago). The annoying/squeamish part was when he had to pound the implant into the bone. So if you are really squeamish, opt for anesthesia.
ETA: My oral surgeon is pretty old school so techniques may have changed.

I just had two implants.. the only real pain was when the crowns were put on..by my regular dentist.. after the oral surgeon did all the other work. he said it almost never ever hurts to put the crowns on.. but for me it was the most painful thing I have ever had done at the dentist.. I was crying and screamed. my dentist gave me tons of novocaine.. and worked with me to get it done.
5 months out, I would do it again. the oral surgeon part was painless.. took a long time.. but ok..

My sister has had a couple, and while she really doesn't like dental work, she said the implants weren't bad, just took a long time.

I’ve had three implants. The worst thing about them is that they take months. And are expensive. However, they are worth it. I am in the process of getting my first implant. I go back on the 20th of this month for the final step. I had no idea the process took so long and half so many steps to it, plus, even with insurance it is expensive but at least I only had to pay as each step was completed, so it helped to break up the cost. And I agree…totally worth it. Fortunately, I have never had a phobia about go to the dentist, but honestly, it was ok…the process itself, really hasn’t been bad at all.

I never had an implant but I had gum grafts. They take flesh from the roof of your mouth and use it on your gums. Sounds awful right? I was sore afterwards but didn’t feel anything while it was being done.

Over the last 18 months I have had four implants and heading into the fifth in about a week. Not bad but it is a slow process. Very happy with the results.
I found the more I resigned myself to the importance of dental work and outcomes, the less frightening it becomes. I was very nervous when I first started and wanted sedatives, gas and all. But after the first two procedures, not a big deal and now go in cold. Do not care for the anesthesia after effects.

Time.........slow............time.............slow............
I only have one. I think I started sometime in July or August. It ended maybe around Christmas. Oh and then just after I started to eat real food again I had my colonoscopy. So this medical stuff screwed up Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's.

I’ve had three. I didn’t think it was too bad and the results have been great. Much better than having three missing teeth! 😁😁😁

Yes! I had one last yr. It took a YEAR to go thru the whole process. It was sooo slow. And it was my front tooth. I had a retainer with a fake tooth in it to wear. It's a long process. In terms of pain, I would say it's not any worse then going to the reg dentist and getting novicaine. I only used shots, and I did just fine. I am just happy now, after a yr to have my front tooth back!! 1st they pull the tooth, and you have to wait, they do a bone graft usually, and that takes a good 3 months to heal, then they xray and see if doing ok. then set up the implant, put that in, and wait some more. I just thought it was pull the tooth and put the implant in, done. Man was I wrong. Good luck!!

I have one implant and it took months to get it completed. To start, I needed a bone graft before the implant could be started. That wasn’t a big deal except the was a significant waiting time for that to cure before the implant could be started. The actual day the implant was put in was not pleasant, I can’t say it was painful, just tedious. When she warned me she would be banging the implant in, and she would be hitting it quite hard, I still wasn’t quite ready for how that felt. It didn’t hurt, just felt like my would shatter, it didn’t. Then more wailing for the implant was ready to be crowned. Finally, she did the impressions and sent them out to the lab to be made, more waiting. When the crown came back and put in, her and I decided the color was off. She had hell of time getting the crown off and ended up shattering it. If she had been able to just get off, it could have re-colored. This way we had to start back with new impressions. At this point it was right in the middle of the holidays, so I put a hold on everything until after the first of the year. It was finally completed in February. I think I started in July. Most the stalls were particular to my situation and not the standard. Since it was my eye tooth, I was thankful i had my dentist make a flip, or a false tooth to fill the spot. Not the worst thing I’ve ever had done, but certainly the most expensive, especially since I didn’t have any dental insurance.

Mine was done 20+ years ago, and I do not regret it in the least! At that point in my 30s I did not want a 3 unit bridge and implants were relatively newish.
Well worth it, but it does take time as they must wait for your bone to grow into the metal before it is stable to place the crown.

I had one. Well half of one. I'm still waiting to get the crown part so I look like I have half a tooth or a broken tooth. Why? Because it was so damn expensive. We couldn't afford both the implant and the crown (the dentist wasn't very honest about the cost). But hell yeah, it was easy peasy. I was asleep for the whole thing. Which is kind of a shame, as that dentist (not my regular dentist) is really good looking. Didn't see him at all. Damn.

I have one. It's my favorite tooth! The entire process took a year for me because I needed a bone graft as well. Just stay ahead of the pain. I didn't take prescription pain killers. Aleve was all I needed.
