Died Friday at 82. I know he had his issues, but Love Story was such a huge hit in the mid 70s and What’s Up Doc is one of my all-time favorite comedies.

I hope this brings peace to the people he hurt in life. Yes, he was a good actor, but his history of abuse is troubling. I imagine this is stirring up lots of feelings for his children, both good and bad, so my thoughts are with them.

I fell in love with him when he was on the TV show Peyton Place in the 60's. He was so darn good looking.

I had the famous Love Story poster hanging on my bedroom wall when I was in 6th and 7th grade. I won it as a prize for selling boxed fruit cakes door to door for school band. I thought it was the coolest thing ever!
I couldn’t wait to grow up and look like Ali McGraw and find someone who looked like Ryan O’Neal and say things to each other like “Love means never having to say you are sorry.”
Ryan O’Neal was beautiful and a good actor. Some of his movies have stood the test of time, but I don’t think Love Story is one of them.
I don’t know too much about his personal life, but I do remember his son had some serious struggles. I hope Ryan O’Neal and those close to him found peace with each other in the end.

For those of you not aware, Ryan O'Neal was a drug addict and abused his children and at least one ex partner. He shot at one son, did drugs with his children when they were very young, emotionally and physically abused them. One child was beaten so badly, to the point that Ryan knocked out is front teeth. And he also beat Angelica Houston while they were dating. Don't mourn him too much. He was an abusive monster.

I hadn’t heard and I have never seen love story I guess I will have to see if it’s streaming and watch. It was magical when I was a teenager, but I don't think it holds up well. |

This is very sad news. Thankfully he had made peace with his children over the past few years and they all forgave each other. They shared lovely tributes to him and were very grateful for the last few years they had with him.
I hope that he is in peace with Farrah by his side.

From what I understand, his youngest son, Redmond, is in prison and the two never reconciled. Tatum made up with her dad a few years ago, and Patrick wrote a loving tribute to his dad. I don’t know about the other son. Ryan O’Neal had a very troubled personal life. May he rest in peace.

I read or seen on television a bit back Alana Stewart speak about Ryan and his children. She stated that he had made peace with his children, visited Redmond in prison, had been having family gatherings with his other children. Griffin was the only one of his kids there was still hard feelings but that she thought that they were working through them.
His daughter has even stated as much.

He was a horrible father and husband. He punched one of his sons teeth out, and shot at him later. He was physically abusive to Farrah.
He was charming though, most forgave him. Not a loss.

I feel sorry for the people who loved him, but not necessarily because he died, but for who he was to them. By stand the test of time I meant by all of the things that later came out about him after that movie. With the things that came known after the line is really pretty dark. Yes it’s a dumb line |

I have never seen it and occasionally I see that clip with that line.. and I think it is soooo cheesy.. BUT I guess at the time like lots of movies it was great at the moment. But I hear that actress' voice and think ugggg like nails on a chalkboard.. lol |

Wow, I did not know all this about Ryan O’Neal.  My mom let us read the Reader’s Digest version without all the profanity. And I remember my father said he wouldn’t ever have asked a girl out who swore like that. lol something like that Layce |

I still can't get over he hit on Tatum at Farrah's funeral. Tatum caught him in bed with Melanie Griffith when Melanie was a teenager. Ryan invited Tatum to get in bed and join them. All the horrible things he did to his sons. Tatum always looked so traumatized as a child. I hope the children will find peace now.
