I remembered I grabbed more than one Sew Ribbon tools from WRMK to punch cs then thread ribbon through. There are several designs. I also have a Fiscars(?) border punch that leaves a bunch of parallel slots along the edge, and I have threaded ribbon through those slots occasionally, too. Just wondering if this is becoming a "thing" again?

Considering that this is a recent episode, I assume that the scrapping and card making gurus are at least trying to bring it back.
I can’t remember ever doing this myself. I’ve been card making over 35 years (scrapbooking for about 27 years), and have seen (and tried) a lot of tools and techniques. If I ever tried this, though, it probably wasn’t more than once, if that. I don’t think that I have this tool or anything like it, so if I decide to attempt it, I would probably try to use my Silhouette to cut the holes, to see if I think it’s worth the effort, before I would buy the tool.
It looks pretty, but I don’t know that it would be anything I’d do more than a few times.

I remember doing that as a kid. With green strawberry cartons and with paper or plates we'd punch holes in. Even in cardboard.
Haven't done it with cards but man that takes me back to the 80s.

I used to do ribbon threading. This was something I did more in mini albums. I had some sort of border punch I used for that. I wonder if it’s coming back. Hmm.

I bought a few of the tools from WRMK back in the day. I think I used them once? They did look nice. I wonder if I still have the tools?

I exclusively scrapbook & have never (or even been interested in) threaded ribbon on layouts.

When The Stamp Market came out with ribbon earlier this year, they released a few dies meant to work with ribbon weaving (linked below). They're nice but I'm not sure how popular they've been. To me this seems like one of those techniques that's good for design teams and selling specialty tools, but not used much by everyday papercrafters. I think ribbon weaving was always aimed at card makers, although I did use the ribbon design on some pages, if I remember correctly. I really liked the effect of that one.
And I think I used the criss/cross one on a hockey page to represent skate laces. wendifful , those cover plates look way easier to use than my WRMK punch thingies. The Hunky Dory set I linked in op was also a set of dies. With the tools, you had to clamp on the "template" to the edge of your cs, then use the little hand held punch to make the cuts. If you had the cover plate you would be half way there!.

It looks pretty. But I don't want to buy anymore ribbon. I donated tons that I bought when ribbon was a thing and Michaels would have seasonal ones 50% off all the time. I have only kept a few that are very specific and some that come in handy for non-craft related things. Like when I want to take a picture of my dog with a bow on her head.

grammadee, those are cool tools and probably what I would choose if I were to use ribbon more often in my papercrafs. I have so much ribbon that I don't use, because it turns out I don't really like the look of ribbon on cards or pages, except for specific things like on tags or tiny bows on a gift die cut. But the sew ribbon stuff is really pretty!

They may be piggybacking on the trend of sewing on cards. The stitching dies that Spellbinders and others offer seem to have been more popular than I would’ve expected, or maybe I just follow too many people in the DT! I’m skeptical that most papercrafters will use these supplies long term or that it will become widely popular.
I imagine some people still have big stashes of ribbons and it does seem to add nice texture, but I think it would be something I did a couple of times and then forgot about. Or that seemed like too much faffing. I wouldn’t buy any new tools or supplies to do it, personally, but it could be fun to play with if you already have punches or dies or a craft knife.
