aKathy's What's for Dinner? 12/11

Today I took things easy. Apart from a walk to the local Turkish grocery (they have great meat, better than my regular grocery) and to the drogerie nearby (bulk packs of tealight candles), I have stayed in a crafted and prepared craft for after school care on Wednesday. The rest of my week will be busier - tomorrow I need to go into the city to get the final things for DH’s present, then Wednesday I have after school care and Thursday I am meeting a friend for brunch and another for kaffee und kuchen, then Friday Sophia’s godmother arrives here from Australia for a few days, so I will probably go into the city to meet up with her. DH is away from tomorrow until Friday evening, though he told me yesterday he is taking extra clothes ‘in case’ after our snowmageddon last week.

For dinner tonight I have some ground beef and I am either going to make a small cottage pie ( also have leftover mash from yesterday) or pasta sauce and I’ll cook up some pasta as well. I might also have just heated up some premade glühwein for a pre- dinner drink.

Good morning! I made a good dent in decorating the tree so it doesn't look bare and finished about half of my Christmas cards. (I'm one of those people who love sending cards and, being a Navy brat, have friends all over the country so I send about 140. It's my guilty pleasure no matter the cost of postage.)

I have Crazy Rummy this afternoon, our Newcomer's luncheon on Wednesday and Creative Crafters on Thursday. Busy week for me.

Dinner might be Horseradish Meatloaf or gumbo.

Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a great weekend! Today I have a dentist appointment (getting the first two of my veneers) and need to drop off a check at the school board tax office. Tomorrow is my annual ob/gyn appointment. Other than that this week is dedicated to getting my tree up and decorated, finish up Christmas shopping and sewing. It seems all I was able to accomplish this weekend was ironing a lot of fabric, making patterns (from .pdf printouts) and cutting fabric. Should start seeing finished projects by the end of the week. Nothing like waiting until the last minute.

There is plenty of rechauffe in the fridge so don't plan to do much other than reheating for dinner tonight.

I took my grandboys cat to the vet this morning to be spayed. They called my DDIL to make sure the cat had been fasting and she told them that the cat stole a piece of chicken off the counter this morning. So they refused to do the surgery and she has been scheduled for tomorrow morning. I think they are keeping her overnight or my DDIL will pick her up on her way home. 

I helped DH pull an old wifi cable out of the ground in the backyard and replace it with a new one today. What a mess we were when we finished. Mud everywhere! Hopefully the cable was the issue and DH will have wifi in his garage again. 

I really need to do some indoor decorating and wrap some presents. For some reason, I’m just not motivated. 

Tonight supper is with my monthly supper group. For someone who asked, we are a group of 6 former coworkers who worked for years together. Five of us are retired, one still works at the same organization and one is now a teacher.

I had a busy weekend and got a bunch of stuff done. They only thing I didn't get done was to bake some Christmas cookies. I may try to do that this evening after work.

I am making white chicken chili and cornbread for dinner. While I am doing that I want to clean out my overstuffed canned and boxed food cabinet. It is jammed packed and I don't even really know what is in there! 

Today we are having cod or salmon (freshly caught), cucumbers with lemon (I know it’s a bit weird but it is custom for DDIL). There are green beans in the fridge and a romaine lettuce for salads. I think DS will cook the fish andI will be ready for them.

Life is great!

Tearisci I'm so glad your folks can recover together. Don't feel bad if you can't go see them, they have each other and they will be alright. ❤️

scrapmaven I have been busy working on a big report for work. My deadline is tomorrow at 5 pm. But I really need to get back into Christmas. I haven't wrapped anything and packages are taking over my living room. I do love the wrapping.

On Saturday night I made a cabbage and barley soup from that cookbook. I made pierogi too and I added them on top of the soup. It was delicious. Last night I made broccoli cheddar soup and I made soft pretzels too as Jeremy loves that combo. I'm just getting ready to take some macaroni and cheese made with the leftover soup out of the oven.

Today I went out to lunch with my next door neighbor friend. We had a great time. I did laundry. We had a huge grocery order delivered. I still have to send out cards, finish decorating the kitchen and living room. I have to wrap and ship my brother’s Christmas gifts. Put up the tree, wrap gifts, etc. 

Tomorrow, I am getting my nails done, Wednesday I have a zoom appointment, lunch and a dentist appointment, Thursday, I have my prayer group Christmas luncheon and at this point Friday is open. 

So hopefully by Friday everything will be done. And I can watch movies.. 

I hope all of you have a peaceful rest of the day.

DH's cousin, once removed, is my dear friend who introduced us many years ago. She was diagnosed with terminal cancer and is not being given any treatment. She now has covid and is in isolation in a rehab facility. She has other issues as well, and the loneliness is just so very sad. I don't live nearby and it hurts. I once lived with her when she was diagnosed with cancer over 40 years ago and she came for a month when my son came home on 02 from the hospital.

Our dishwasher is leaking, and I figured out the cause I hope. We got the part and DH will install it tonight. I'm glad he is handy.

Tonight I am making pizza.
