I SUCK at this. My arms are scratched and my back is tired, and my tree looks like an ornament factory THREW UP.
I’ve loved my tree in the past, but I just can’t get it together this year. I have to freaking move on and finish the house so I can put the boxes away. Uggghhhh why did I wait so long! I wish I had time to take it all down and start over. I don’t know what it needs. I love their ribbon. I love the ornaments. I can’t make it look cohesive.
Pity party over, back to work. I’m calling it in 1 hour, then I’m moving on to the mantle.
Merry Christmas!!😝🎄

Take a break and go back later and look at it. I bet it looks better than you think!

Take a break and go back later and look at it. I bet it looks better than you think! I agree. I’d sit and relax or work on the mantle for a while. Then when you come back to it with fresh eyes you’ll realize what’s bothering you about it.

Sometimes I get so frustrated as well... I think next year will be my Charlie Brown tree. One and done. Literally.

I'm sorry, and I feel you. Decorating in general is not a skill I possess. I've had a ladder in my formal living room for a month waiting for me to finish decorating. I finally spent some time on it this afternoon and it's just meh. I envy the people who can pull together beautiful trees.

But I know people who can effortlessly pull together an outfit, bookcase, room. So jealous!

Yup. Take a break and go back to it. I decorated my tree and it was pretty and lovely and then my big kitty decided to make it a cat toy. I give up. We put it back together(it's fake) and decorated w/what was left of the ornaments. Santa won't care, so I won't sweat it.

My old neighbor had some terrific idea for holiday decorating and storage.
She organized decorations for storage according to where it got put up in the house, a box for the tree, a box for the mantle, a box for outdoor decorations, etc. She further labeled the boxes with Large Christmas and Small Christmas. For example the tree box labeled small contained everything necessary to decorate a small tree. That was for the years that they were not entertaining family or she was not feeling well and only had the energy for minimal decorating. When they were entertaining, her husband would bring in the large Christmas tree box(es).
She said when this idea first occurred to her, she was going to split up the decorations she already had and just combine them for a large tree but then she would have to separate them back each year. She ultimately decided to go to the after Christmas sales and buy different ornaments for the small tree. I thought this was a genius way of storing her decorations.
The second good idea she had was to take a picture of each area when she got it set up exactly the way she wanted it. She printed the pictures on heavy card stock and kept each one in the appropriate box. She referred to these pictures each year so that she didn’t have to remember how she had done something. She said it was also helpful for her husband so that he could help her decorate and not put something up wrong. She was really good at decorating and he didn’t mind helping as long as he could see where things were supposed to go., Obviously she was free to change things up if she wanted to, but having the basic blueprint was helpful to remind her what she had done before.

Along these lines --- taking a photo for several angles can help you figure out what's wrong many times. Something about looking at it thru a lens often can show me what's missing or what's too much.

She was really good at decorating and he didn’t mind helping as long as he could see where things were supposed to go., Obviously she was free to change things up if she wanted to, but having the basic blueprint was helpful to remind her what she had done before. I do the first thing, organize by area; like tablescape, buffet, entry table, etc. And each tree has its own huge box, everything for the tree from topper to tree skirt is put in there including ornament hooks so we don’t have to go looking for it. And if we decide not to do one tree that year we don’t still have to bring in the tree topper box, for example. This way of organizing is so helpful. On the years we don’t want to do all of the decorating we simple bring in the boxes for the specific areas we want to decorate. I keep meaning to do the second for the exact same reasons, I just never get around to it. Glad to know she finds it helpful.
