I need help with a struggle meal for dinner today. I'm completely out of everything, esp produce and I'm getting over a really bad cold and can't taste anything either. I'm sick of ordering out and want to just throw something together with what's on hand. Kraft Tuna Mac was a staple growing up and my eldest loved it but really haven't made it in years. The last time I tried making it was after Kraft messed with the good orange original recipe and it came out kind of dry. I use the albacore tuna packed in water, which tends to be on the dry side as well. If you make this dish (and please don't be judgey ) do you add anything to it? I was thinking I have a carton of heavy cream, I have mayo and I do have Campbell's cream soups in the pantry. I can't decide if adding any of these would make it creamier. The soup may be overkill (I don't plan on baking a casserole out of it). I also have frozen peas.

I don't know how many people you need to feed -- but I feel 2 boxes Mac and Cheese : 1 can of tuna would be a good ratio. Otherwise too "fishy".
Also, I'd add the cream of mushroom soup, peas and a handful of shredded cheese on top if you have it.

I would make the Kraft per directions on the box, but add a wee bit more butter and milk to make it creamier. Heat the peas or the frozen ones will completely cool off your mac and cheese. Toss peas and tuna into mac and chesse, but lightly stir as too much stirring will cause the mac and cheese to become glue like. Hope you feel better soon.

Make the mac and cheese as directed. Throw the tuna in the trash. LOL
JK - I know a lot of people like tuna mac. I hope your recipe comes out great

Another variation--cut up weiners in the finished Kraft macaroni and cheese.
For unknown reasons, when I was a teenager, the standard Saturday lunch was Macaroni (Kraft) and tuna fish salad sandwiches.
--perhaps the reason we had this was the oldest teenage sister had the job of preparing lunch on Saturday.

I hope your recipe comes out great okay that cracked me up lol. good suggestions you guys, thank you! I do happen to have two boxes. DH and DD will eat it. and also a good suggestion about heating the peas first and not over stirring. I'm paranoid about the soup for some reason, but I'm going to try it. Maybe just half a can. I do have a block of cheddar but will grating it into the mac and cheese incorporate into it enough?

Actually, I first thought of adding kielbasa but I was out of that too so that's when I remembered I have tuna.

One of the guys I worked with made this hot tuna over toast thing. It sounded gross, but tasted fantastic. Instead of a packaged mac & cheese, it used shredded sharp cheddar, tuna, sliced water chestnuts, celery, onions, sour cream, and I am pretty sure there was cream of mushroom soup in there. If you don’t have sour cream, you could use cream cheese. I know I have it written down but I still haven’t found my recipe box. I remember it was an easy meal to throw together in one pot and my son loved it. I would think substituting the mac and cheese for grated cheddar and toast would work too. Or add some grated cheddar if you have it to the mac & cheese.

We made this in college. I’ve done it following the original recipe add a handful of shredded cheese, a can of drained tuna and sliced black olives pour it all into a baking dish and bake for 20 minutes or so.

I swear when I was a kid, we used to have "Tuna Nuna (noodle) Casserole" but my moms was just a can of cream of mushroom soup, pasta and a can of tuna. I think. I just remember the chunks of mushrooms from the soup...

I had no idea this was even a thing! I've heard of tuna noodle casserole but not Kraft and tuna. But for some reason the thought of hot tuna, just disturbs me. However I hope it works out well for you! ETA I do love tuna salad sandwiches and now I'm craving one!

When I was a teenager, my siblings and I LOVED, LOVED tuna casserole. It was made with potato chips. I don't remember what else was in the dish, but it was a favorite. I am sure cream of mushroom soup was part of the ingredients....I think peas were in it also....... Now, I think I shall ask my sister if she remembers the recipe. ...mainly because I am curious, I don't think I will be making it.

I just remember the chunks of mushrooms from the soup... Yep, I had this growing up (no nickname, it was Tuna & Noodles) and it was cream of chicken cuz mushrooms are gross. At some point we got fancy and added peas and a bit of shredded mozzarella cheese. I’m having a hard time imagining Kraft Mac & cheese with tuna though so I don’t belong in this thread at all. Hope you feel better Yvonne.

I've had it before when I was a kid but wouldn't voluntarily put them together ever again.
I'd just eat them separately, if I was really that hungry! Otherwise just the Mac n cheese would be plenty.
If they're canned peas, those can go in the trash and I'll just go hungry thanks 😁

Hot tuna sounded gross to me too, but then he said that is how most people eat it, hot off the grill. I remembered Mom made a tuna noodle casserole when I was little and I loved it. I tasted what Vince had brought and was an instant convert. I started remembering how good and satisfying this recipe was as I was working around the house this afternoon and decided that I may not get it exactly the same since I don’t have Vince’s recipe in front of me but decided to wing it. I always keep tuna, cream of mushroom soup, and water chestnuts in the pantry all the time. I use water chestnuts in place of celery often to give something a crunch and a can of water chestnuts lasts for ages while celery is gross within a week or so. I had to use half cheddar and half American cheeses because that is all I had. I think this is one of those dishes that you can fudge around with the ingredients and it will still be delicious. I am eating it right now for my lunch. I don’t have any pasta in the house so I made a piece of sourdough wheat toast, cut it into crouton-sized pieces, and put the tuna on that. Yum!!! Thank you for jogging my memory!

Sorry you're feeling crummy oh yvonne. I remember you lost your sense of taste when you had covid. I wonder if the loss of sense of taste will be a problem whenever you get sick now. 😖 Dh and ds would both likely die of starvation before eating mac and cheese. Why I'm not divorced over that is a miracle. 😂 They won't eat any casseroles. I love Tuna fish casserole with potato chips on top. Haven't had it in over 30 years. 👿 We got back late last night from our trip to London. I had mac and cheese for lunch!

We add a slice or two of Kraft Cheese. If you have bread and cheese you can make a tuna melt recipe.

It's one of our favorite "out of the pantry - stuff you have on hand" sandwich options for lunch. I might eat the boxed mac and cheese oh yvonne, but not with the tuna in it and never the canned peas. If I weren't feeling poorly already, I sure would be after that!

And this is the first I've been this sick since I had COVID. Well it's day 6 and so far my sense of smell is dulled but it feels like a normal, post cold dull in that I can tell it's coming back as my congestion slowly starts to clear. I never ever want to go through that again, losing my sense of smell for 5 months was misery! and welcome home dearie!

You don't have tortillas and some kind of protein?!?!What kind of Mexican are you?!?! Sorry you're feeling poorly! Just teasing cause my kids know when all else fails - tacos are in your future! ba hahaha! In fact I do have tortillas and protein, but gah to have to think of cooking them was the issue. I have one of those 'ingredients only' kind of houses. I don't normally buy prepackaged foods so everything has to be whipped up from scratch as much as possible. Which means frequent grocery store trips. And when I'm sick I don't want to do it and although I will do delivery or pick up, I didn't have the energy to to do that, either. Tuna mac was discovered by me when I was about 10 and babysitting a new neighbor's kids who had moved her to Calif from out of state. I don't remember where she was from, but they were white and she used to leave that on the stove for me to serve to her kids. I thought it looked weird but I was curious so I tasted it and I liked it so much I begged my mom to buy Kraft mac and cheese too (we'd never bought it before) and pretty soon it became a struggle meal my mom would serve us kids too. DH was suspicious of it the first time I made it for DD but he tried it and discovered it wasn't bad, so....every once in a great great while I'll make it and it's just a good, hot easy thing to throw together pantry meal.

LOL To the OP, I would just add a little extra butter and milk or cream. Just me, but I’d probably save the soup and peas for another supper, unless you wanna fancy this one up! ;-) Take care!

Once you have your tuna Mac and cheese made, try adding a bit of bread crumbs, if you have them, make patties out the tuna Mac and cheese and coat in more of the bread crumbs and pan fry . My kids love thes, even as adults! They love them as an open faced sandwich with a slice of toasted bread, slice cheese, Mac and cheese patty and soft fried egg on top.
