Final Update: After trying to contact someone and pay for the sweatshirt, I talked to an online Chat. Since the seller is no longer on Etsy they told me I didn't have to pay for or return the item and to enjoy it! I was surprised. Update #2: we just received the sweatshirt. We are stunned. So, since they closed the dispute, do I just somehow contact Etsy to have them recharge our credit card? UPDATE: Thank you everyone for your replies and shared experiences. I finally notified Etsy and had a refund hit our Visa account within 30 seconds! If I hadn't asked y'all, we may have thought we would have to chalk it up to a bad experience. I love this place!! DH bought DS a 49ers retro sweatshirt from a dealer on Etsy. It was shipped the last week of November. It was shipped from Richardson, TX (per the seller) but it's been sitting in Jamaica, NY for the last 8 days. And we live in CA. When I tried to contact the seller, I get a message that he is no longer selling on Etsy. This is a red flag to me but maybe he has so many orders he can't take any more??? This is the first time we've ever used Etsy and DH is worried.

If it was shipped to your address, then the seller has done all he can do if you did not purchase insurance.

Do you have the tracking number or is the information all provided by the seller?

I assume you paid through PayPal.
Open a dispute saying the item hasn’t arrived and you can’t contact the seller because he’s no longer active on Etsy.
PayPal will refund you.

This happened to me with a print I wanted to order off of Etsy. I opened a claim with Etsy, I did have to wait until after the estimated ship date, and I was refunded almost immediately.

If it was shipped to your address, then the seller has done all he can do if you did not purchase insurance. Not quite true. Tracking has to show delivery and then the seller is off the hook. Otherwise, the seller remains responsible. Also, insurance is paid out to the seller (the person who purchased the shipping) rather than to the buyer. It's really more protection for the seller than the buyer. For cadoodlebug - since the shop is no longer operating, your best option is to open case with Etsy for assistance.

I would contact Etsy. If you don't get anywhere with them, dispute with Paypal. So sorry this happened to you!

Some sellers close down close to the holidays so they do not become overwhelmed with orders.
Does their store have an open up date? Or at keast will return message?
If not, contact Etsy.
I will say a package I bought end of November has sat in each post office hub for 3 days..
I have had packages before spring the season sit for a week then 2 days then 4 days. Like it literally took a package 26 days to arrive. And this was with USPS.

Could it actually be in customs at JFK? Does the tracking show it really left Texas?
I bought some cabinet pulls from Etsy that took nearly 2 months to get here because they sat in customs in Chicago for weeks. They had originally been shipped from China. The seller did offer to refund my money but I waited and I'm glad I did. I love the product. I don't think Etsy is nearly as picky as they were in the beginning about everything being handmade.

DS gf tried to order a custom shirt off Etsy. She paid for it and the person made the design and sent her a proof. Then all of a sudden, his Etsy shop was shutdown. He said he wasn't able to giver her a refund, she'd have to contact Etsy. He said a lot of people's shops were getting shut down. He had 2 other shops (not on Etsy I don't think) and then they were both shut down. Kind of sketchy, IMO.

I bought a Yeti tumbler with the Captain America shield engraved on it and the work was so great I wanted to recommend them to others. But when I went to get the name they were gone as well.

I bet he got hit with a trademark violation or similar complaint. It's pretty common on Etsy. I recently had an order go from Texas, to Florida, to San Francisco, to Floria, to Texas, to San Francisco, to Sacramento, to me. It took 18 days. While annoying it seems like packages circling the United States happens frequently this time of year.

I’ve had two Etsy sellers take my money recently for a custom shirt then close the store. One even sent a mockup of the design then poof! Not sure what’s going on with them right now, but I wonder if it even shipped.

I don't think Etsy is nearly as picky as they were in the beginning about everything being handmade. They aren’t and it’s a sore spot with those sellers who are handmade. Some categories are flooded with mass-produced products passed off as homemade. But in the case of cabinet pulls and the like, they would fall under “craft supplies” which is not a homemade category. Also there’s a large vintage and antique component to Etsy separate from handmade.

Etsy and Tik Tok Shop are really cracking down on that right now with pretty much no warnings. If you are breaking copy right law they are closing you down.

Yes…mine was a collage of photos of our cat, so no copyright infringements (I think that’s all the store did). Maybe they were making collages of images they shouldn’t have? This is all so odd.

I will say the USPS seems a hot mess right now. A package I was expecting in mid-Nov went from NJ to Portland, OR before getting to me in Denver. I sent out a package on 11/30 and until December 5th it was just bouncing around facilities here in Denver. I talked to my Dad, a package he was expecting in FL coming from MO went to Seattle.

I have had a couple things I ordered from Etsy that never showed up. I am sure one of them was a flaky seller that was from China, but I didn't realize that at the time.
I contacted Etsy and was refunded.
I had a couple other things I ordered through Facebook that were a Chinese seller situation (before I knew better - "if it is too good to be true" kind of situation) and PayPal refunded me. I know better now - lol

I got a shipping confirmation w/UPS tracking number on 11/26. I still haven't received it. I chatted with UPS yesterday and they haven't even taken possession of it yet. I sent an inquiry to TS's website. They responded with something about if it's been more than 2 weeks since I got the shipping confirmation, please let them know. I did in my original email and again in my response. Waiting now to see what happens.

I had something similar happen. I ordered something and then I got an email from Etsy saying the seller is no longer on Etsy. They refunded my money immediately. I am pretty sure the item isn't really in NY. Open a dispute. You will probably get your money back quickly.
