what a traffic nightmare that will be. i'm glad i don't take that freeway. as much as a believe in peaceful protest, i think blocking a freeway is too much especially in an already congested area.
ETA: it's actually the southbound 110 freeway in Downtown L.A. around 3rd street. downtown is already a traffic nightmare and it's going to be a bigger nightmare if it's blocked. this is where the freeway bottlenecks around downtown. the side streets aren't a great detour. horrible.

I get that protestors need to disrupt to be heard but I hate when they do it on freeways.
It's not fair to travelers to be stopped. I would hate to be going out to CHLA today and be caught in that. It sucks.

Not the best way to make their point.

The shutdown lasted about an hour. I saw a photo of school buses in the traffic. I wonder if there were kids on the buses, although at 9:30 I would assume they were already dropped off at their schools. I don't think this is a way to get people sympathetic to your cause. It is their right to protest, but I don't really know what is the best way to go about it.

This is not how to be heard. It just massively pisses people off who have places to go. Trying to work around it just isn't feasible unless you know well in advance, and even then its going to suck.

Sure, stopping traffic in American will influence fighting in 2 counties over which we have no control. (sarcasm)
I find it impossible to understand the logic behind this.

Unbelievably stupid. It falls under the heading of ‘meaningless gestures’ for me. I cannot imagine how many people were inconvenienced by this and for what? Do they think someone in that crowd can make a few calls and stop the war? That someone will see this on tv and think ‘I better stop the war before this happens to me’. It just makes no sense to me.

My biggest issue with this is when it makes getting to/from hospitals take longer. They’re putting other people's lives at risk while not even really getting their point across just inconveniencing others to boot.

So I am at a trauma 1 center over an hour away from LA and the USC Transplant Team just walked in and asked to be led to the OR to pick up a heart.
Could you imagine being family waiting for the organ to arrive and the team gets stuck in this crap?!

What did they expect to achieve protesting in LA? Now that the protest is over, will the State of California stop shooting at Palestinians in Gaza? They did hit on the perfect way to alienate people who might have been the least bit sympathetic.

It was not smart. I saw a video of drivers getting out of their cars and pushing protestors around.

Oh wow. I work in downtown and everyone was already at work when it started. I feel like protest activity is guaranteed to shut down the freeways. All of us get alerts when protest activity is planned (or happens by surprise), so that we can plan accordingly. For example, when the lakers won the championship, when the students were marching for gun control after uvalde, BLM. All of those ended up on the freeway.

Reminds me of a local small business (car wash) that had a lovely hand-painted mural of the Austin landscape that someone spray painted "Free Palestine" all across it. That really sucks!

We have stuff like this happening in the UK by environmental groups. Two main ones - Extinction Rebellion and Just Stop Oil pull similar stunts, causing huge disruption to all sort of people in many ways and their answer is always "But you're talking about it aren't you"
Frankly it just pisses people off and they ought to aim their protests at the politicians, the owners/presidents etc of the massive companies that are doing the environmental damage - not you and I trying to get to medical appts, a job interview and so on.

But they could have come from the local small airport. If it was heli, they wouldn't have come through the ER.
