I have had several rolls of double sided wrapping paper from Sam’s club for years. I’m not sure on the brand but I thought maybe it was hallmark (but there is no marking on the paper). I love it, and the rolls have lasted forever. Last year I bought a roll of hallmark paper (maybe from Costco). I don’t think I used it much last year but this year it is ripping horribly. Every time I make a vertical cut a horizontal cut appears along the way, and it rips while I’m wrapping gifts as well. I know people have said here how much they love that paper but I am wondering if the quality has gone done in recent years? Have you noticed this?

I only use Hobby Lobby wrapping paper if I can. It is so nice!
But everything seems to be of the cheapest quality anymore.
I unwrapped some old silver silverware that was packed up in my china hutch. One of my old aunts had stashed it in there years (decades?) ago ( it was her hutch). I unwrapped it to see what pattern it was and was AMAZED at how thick and pliable that plastic wrap was. And she wasn't one to go buy anything expensive, so I know it was the cheapest one from the grocery store. Man, I wish I could get some like that now! I get Sam's clear cling wrap, and it was always good, but it's not nearly as good as it used to be.
Aluminum foil is the same. I never buy regular - it's so thin! I get the heavy duty, and even that is pretty thin how. You used to be able to practically build something structural with it! LOL

I don’t know what brand the Costco double sided paper is but I have several old rolls and just bought a pack of new (smaller) rolls last year. I used some of the new stuff to wrap a gift for a gift exchange DH was going to and didn’t notice that there was any major difference. I will say that I have more issues with tearing along the cut lines if I’m trying to cut with a scissors that isn’t very sharp, so I try to grab the one that hasn’t been used to gnaw open a hundred plastic packages. When you have a really sharp scissors it almost glides through the paper.

Costco wrapping paper is amazing. Since the last time I needed to buy any, they have switched to double sided. I bought 3 different packages. I am noticing that green gift wrap is scarce.

I purchased the double-sided variety last year from Costco. Just used a roll yesterday and wasn't really impressed. It's not super thin, but it's not what I would consider the good stuff.
It's a red and black buffalo check and it got white scuff marks at the corners when I dragged the wrapped box across my counter.
Sad that I have so much left!

I buy Hallmark paper because they make Hanukkah patterns. The three-pack I bought this year seemed normal (didn't rip or anything), but I bought it on Amazon, so I don't know if it is from this year or what.

Do you remember the paper from, I think it was Current? The kind the kids sold for school? It was like thin wallpaper! Anyway, I can’t compare but I did get some Hallmark paper last year and didn’t have any issues that I recall. Hobby Lobby paper is good, which kills me because I don’t shop there anymore. The Container Store has great quality paper. Jam Paper that Michael’s sells was really great last time I got it. I ordered online so I’m not sure if it’s the same in the store.

I actually like and use Current wrapping paper. It is definitely not thin now.

I have not seen Hallmark paper at Costco. We got so tired of one of our rolls that we sold what was left in Facebook Marketplace. We do like Costco paper. We have also seen big rolls of paper for sale at Home Depot. anniebeth24, you might be able to use that paper on birthday gifts.

Just don't make the mistake I made. I purchased a HUGE roll of wrapping paper from (I forget where I got it). Shortly after, the trend went to gift bags. Anyway, I have a big roll still after MANY Christmases. I wonder if the precipitants are recognizing my paper at this point.

I bought Current wrapping paper from Amazon last year and I just loved it I loved the patterns and the paper was really nice. But I also agree that Hobby Lobby had exceptional paper. It is very high quality. It's just that they don't change the patterns much from year to year. I only like 4-5 of the patterns and I'm getting sick of them.

It’s been double sided for a long time, at least the last 10-12 years. Last year I finally used up the last of the roll of special Santa paper I only use for Santa gifts that I bought when DD was maybe two years old. I literally wrapped every single Santa gift for three people for ten years with that one roll of paper! I would wrap some with the A side showing and some with the B side showing, to differentiate whose gifts were whose. I always try to pick rolls that have a more generic B side with basic stripes or polka dots, that way I can still use it when I have to wrap the occasional birthday gift.

I haven't bought any new Costco wrapping paper but last year I finally finished up the 3 pack I bought back in 2018. It was nice and thick and glossy and the scissors glided through easily. Great paper.
This year I bought fun paper from Target.

I found that the paper that Home Goods sells is really nice and thick. That is actually the only place I go to get holiday paper now. I have noticed that if the roll has a ton of yardage in it, it is usually crap so I don't buy that stuff. There is always a few rolls that are open in the store so I check to make sure it isn't tissue paper.

The hallmark paper I have is thick, but it just rips easily. I can try a different scissors but I’m using the same scissors with my older paper and it’s fine. The hallmark paper also rips when I fold it to wrap a package. Maybe it’s just a bad batch.

The 9 rolls I bought this year should be good for 15 more years!

Wrapping presents is one of my favorite parts of Christmas. My Granma always did hers just so and I inherited the love of doing the same. It would be a nightmare to have the same paper year after year after year! I used to buy paper and accessories for individual people, but now I appreciate a nice complimentary group of papers and ribbons and decorations. All this to say, I might have an issue. And I might have notes from wrapping paper acquisitions over the past several years. Maybe. If I had such notes they would say something like: Jam Paper ~ Thick, doesn’t scratch, folds easily, can use regular tape. Their website is cheaper than Michael’s regular prices. Hallmark Foil ~ Good thickness (not as much as Jam), grid lines, can use normal tape, but the color scratches off easily. ( iamkristinl16 I wrapped our stocking stuffers with leftovers from last year and haven’t had any ripping issues). Papyrus ~ From Container Store. Gorgeous, super thick, no grid lines. Glitter so regular tape does not work. Red tape works very well. Brother 🩷 Sister Design Studio ~ From Container Store. Glossy White. Thick with grid lines. Can faintly see through packaging. Makes crisp edges and doesn’t show crinkles easily. In my stash right now I have several opened rolls of The Container Store ~ Branded. Thick, crisp, has grid lines, color doesn’t scratch. Now, I know they used to carry a lot of papers from The Gift Wrap Co. So, is that who produces their branded papers now? That paper was also excellent quality. I don’t think I’ve ever purchased any paper from CS that wasn’t.

I just wanted to add that I love the double sided papers for another reason, which is that because it’s printed on both sides it isn’t see through. When I was a kid, I would love it when my family would wrap gifts with a lot of big white areas in the designs like Santa beards or snowman bodies or polar bears because then I could try to peek through the paper to see if I could see anything of the packaging or item inside! 🤭🤫 Even as a kid I never liked surprises, even the good ones, LOL.

I think the quality of Hallmark paper depends greatly on where you buy it (as in some stores carry a lower quality line).

Brother and Sister paper can be bought at Hobby Lobby. Love that paper! I just wish they would come out with different designs of paper. I got paper from Home Goods and it was nice quality. I’m a wrapping paper fanatic. I won’t use thin paper. I have paper I won’t even use cause it’s too pretty. lol

I don’t think I’ve ever purchased any paper from CS that wasn’t. I have four different double sided rolls that all coordinate with each other pretty well. I did use up some favorites last year and finished one roll this year. The hallmark paper actually goes better with the rest of my decorating this year but is different colors than the others. DS wanted me to use it for Santa paper and I’m glad because those gifts are wrapped horribly due to the ripping. This year I’m a little sick of the older papers but not too bad. Next year I will either try to find another pattern to coordinate or maybe will just get a new one that I like and take a break from them. We will see.

You can get good quality wrap at TJMaxx. I can't rememeber the brands, but they have some nice, heavy papers.

LOL I agree, the heavy duty is like what the regular used to be and the regular is now so thin it just tears all the time. Stuff like this is so annoying because it's not like companies haven't raised their prices. They've raised their prices and decreased the quality of everything.
