My kindle paper white is old. It seemingly won’t charge now. I was looking on Amazon but can’t really tell what the material n difference is between the regular kindle and newer paper white. Which do you recommend?

Paperwhite is easier on the eyes.

Is the regular kindle the kindle fire? I would do paperwhite, bc e-ink technology is so much easier on your eyes, while the fire is more like a tablet/ipad. If you can swing it, I'd splurge for the Oasis, which has 2 buttons on the side. THe shape is more square (paperwhite is more rectanlge) and the battery weight is not equally distributed but those two buttons to turn the page ARE LIFE-CHANGING!

If all you want to do is read - Paperwhite - the e-ink is easier on your eyes. If you want a multi-purpose tablet - then get the Kindle fire

I have a Paperwhite. I love it! So easy on the eyes. I have a PopSocket on the back which makes it easy and comfortable to hold.

I got the oasis 1-2 years ago and LOVE ADORE CHERISH it. LOL

I'm on my 4th kindle, second Paperwhite. I don't think I will ever get anything else. I love the paperwhite because I like to read outside, and you can do that, even on the brightest, sunniest day. I don't need to use it as a tablet, though.

You can flip the Oasis over and it automatically reorients itself, so you can turn the pages with either your right or your left hand... vs. tapping on the right side of the screen to turn the page forward. Those buttons means that I can turn the pages with my left hand while my right hand holds my coffee in the morning. haha As for "the regular Kindle", I'm assuming you mean the one that's basically a tablet? i.e., can go on the internet? If so, don't do it. Get a Paperwhite or Oasis (psst... get the Oasis....buttons...you know you want those buttons...) -- the screen is "flat" like a regular book, not glarey like a tablet screen. {{whispers....buttons... buttons... buttons...}} I do love my Oasis. Buttons. Did I mention those buttons? ?

That is what I love most about the Paperwhite.

I probably forgot to mention that part. hehe But yes, it's waterproof (or water resistant..... not sure if it's totally water *proof*), no glare, can read in the sun, enlarge the font, etc. etc. Plus, you turn the pages with buttons.

I am confused by why buttons is a big deal. With my Paperwhite, I can turn the page just by touching the screen. Why are the buttons better?

Now you guys are making me want the Oasis! I wasn't planning to buy anything but I have several books that just came in from the library after being on hold for a long time, and of course now my kindle won't turn on. Ugh.
I could see where the buttons being on the side of the hand that you are holding the Kindle would be nice, that way you can be truly one handed, right?

I am confused by why buttons is a big deal. With my Paperwhite, I can turn the page just by touching the screen. Why are the buttons better? Because on the Paperwhite -- at least on the one I had -- you could only tap on the right side of the screen for the pages to turn forward and on the left side to go backwards. So I had to be holding it so that my right hand was turning the pages. With the Oasis there are two buttons. The top one goes forward and the bottom one goes back. So you can control both with one hand. But even better than that is that when you turn the Oasis upside down it reorients itself... Now the buttons are on your left hand, and again the top button goes forward and the bottom goes back. So you can lie in bed on whichever side is comfortable and have those two buttons right at hand, whichever hand you prefer. And for me, I'm right handed so in the morning I want to hold my coffee with my right hand, which means turning the Oasis pages with my left hand. Same if I'm eating and reading.

I love my Oasis for reading. For everything else, I’m an iPad user. I seriously have no idea why they appear to have discontinued the Oasis. I much prefer it to my previous Paperwhite.

It looks like the only Oasis available right now for the US is a refurbished one. I'm not sure how I feel about that.

The Oasis has been out for awhile now so it was probably inevitable. But I'm sure there will be a next generation, just like there have been several iterations of the Paperwhite.

I'm betting they expect the Scribe to replace it. Which I really don't want...and it's not waterproof. Most tragically, it doesn't have buttons. To answer the original question, I would have said Oasis first, then Paperwhite, then regular Kindle. The backlight really, really is a game changer.

An update would be lovely! It hasn’t been updated since 2019. I bought mine in July of 2016. With technology changes, I’d love to see a newer Oasis.

The Oasis is so good. I hope a next-gen model is coming soon, but I’m surprised that Amazon missed the holiday season for a new release. It makes me worry they’re discontinuing the Oasis all together.

Nope sadly 🫤 Can’t justify it at the mo but when the time comes I’ll be looking for buttons that’s for sure, even if it adds to the cost.

For reading, I LOVE MY PAPERWHITE ! Sooo easy on the eyes in any light plus being able to adjust the light in the dark is a win for me. I also love just touching to change the page; the silence of not hearing the click of the page button like on the Oasis. That would drive me crazy. Also, unlike the Oasis, I like that the Paperwhite is very symmetrical, with the border around the screen being even; more pleasing to the eye for me.
Paperwhite all the way !
