My Paperwhite has been going strong since Christmas 2012. Every once in a great while it gets very slow and just needs a hard reset and it's back to being responsive again. I also have to charge it about once a week now instead of once a month like when it was young, but we're both doing pretty well for our age!

The newer regular Kindle is back-lit like the paperwhite. So you cam read in the dark.

For me, the paperwhite has a whiter, cleaner black ground. The Kindle a yellower hue.

I can read on both just fine so it depends on how much you want to spend
