It ran for 5 seasons, 2001-05. Before streaming, obviously. I caught the first season and maybe a bit of the second.
I recently binged all 5 seasons and I think it really stands the test of time. Very creative story telling, love the actors. Plenty of drugs and sex, ghosts of characters who have died appear from time to time.
I loved it and would rewatch it.
For me, the finale was the best wrap up of a series I've ever seen.
If you've seen it, I wonder what you think. And if you haven't, I urge you to give it a try.

That's so funny that you asked about it. Dh and I need to pick up a show and I suggested Six Feet Under. Both my sister and BFF loved the show and at the time I didn't have Showtime.
In answer to your other thread. One of my favorite limited series shows is The Patient on Hulu. Steve Carell and Dominhall Gleason co-star and it's not a comedy. It's very serious, sort of creepy and really good. The theme is dark, but it's very good.

I've been thinking about you and hoping you're feeling better. I'll try to message you later. xo

Yes I watched it many many years ago. DSO got me onto it. But I don't think I watched the whole thing from start to finish. I think I only caught the last few seasons when DSO and I moved in together (in 2003). I think it's about time that we watched the whole series again. I've forgotten most of it. It's one of DSO's favourite shows of all time.

I started it and liked it but for some reason, never finished. it's said to have one of the greatest series endings of all time so if I ever pick up showtime again, I'll have to finish.

Funny timing—a friend just asked dh and I if we’ve ever seen it because he and his wife just started watching it (based on his wife’s recommendation). He said they’ve watched a couple episodes but that it seems dated and he’s having a hard time getting into it. I’ve never seen it but I remember hearing how many people liked it and said that the finale was amazing.

I would start watching it again tomorrow if DH were interested. He just doesn't have the time... Although, maybe we could do it S L O W L Y.

The clothes are dated, especially the mother's outfits (understatement), but I think the stories told could apply to modern day for the most part. I love the bold quirkiness of the storytelling.

I watched a few series of it some time ago. It must have been just after we came to Germany, as I had it on DVD because we didn't have any streaming services that were in English back then. I probably stopped watching when I finished the DVDs I'd bought. I should hunt it down - I enjoyed what I did watch of it.

Love, love, love it. I found it mesmerizing. Also, best series finale ever!
Also, the appearance of Rainn Wilson was so special. I had never heard of him and he really shone in the few episodes he was in.

I am now watching this, purely based on your recommendation. I am only half way through the first episode and had to pause to come here and thank you. I am particularly enjoying the bizarre product commercials. “New Wound Filler Cosmetic Molding Putty, now faster setting and self healing.” I am going to enjoy this series.

Yes I watched it when it came out and have rewatched at least once. It was an excellent series. The finale goes down as one of the best finales ever! This is making me want to do another rewatch.

We have just finished season 3 so I'm not going to read the other responses yet. So far I'm very engaged. I do find it a little slow at times but that was the way with series made at that time. More recent shows really speed through their plots, often lacking in important details.
What I find interesting is all the people who guest starred who were just getting started in their careers and the veteran actors as well. It was also a launch for the leads.

We saw it the first time around. The series finale was truly the best finale I've seen from a show. no lingering questions, satisfying ending.
