I'm obviously late to the trend, but hoping to get back into stamping and thinking a stamping tool might be very helpful. So many threads... can someone recommend one please.

I have the larger Tim Holtz stamping platform. Bought it on Amazon
I will not buy the Misti for a multitude of reasons.
I am looking at the AltNew stamp wheel but for now my TH does its job.

I have the larger Tim Holtz Platform which i find has areas of the lid where you can't get a good stamp from. I have a small misti-knock-off by Hampton Arts which works but I find it flimsy.
And I bought the altenew stampwheel about a year ago and it is honestly my go-to because I LOVE the sticky platform, it gives by far the best stamping results, and it takes less space because there is no hinge (you can flip over the lid to ink up). My complaint is the size...I can't stamp the inside of cards without folding them in half the wrong way. The Tim HOltz is good for that because your project can stick out the edge.

I completely agree with kitbop. I have both sizes of the Tim Holtz platform and I've had the Stampwheel for a couple of months now. I get the best images using the Stampwheel, and it stamps more consistently than the TH platforms.
However, I do sometimes stamp larger items, card insides or things for a layout, and they don't fit in the Stampwheel. I still use my TH platform for those.
Think about how you stamp, the size of the things you stamp, and consider that when making your decision.

I have both sizes of the TH platform. I do not use the included magnets to hold down the paper. That can affect the lid not closing properly. I use drafting tape. I also cut a piece of fun foam to fit the platform. It has a bit of cushion and my images turned out clearer.
I just bought the Stampwheel but I haven’t used it yet. It’s especially good for layering sets.

I have the We R Memory Keepers stamping platform -I picked it up when TM was closing so got a good price on it. It works well for ME and has me using my clear stamps a bit more often. I've never used or even seen in person any of the others though so can't compare

I exclusively incorporate stamping into scrapping, am a basic stamper (no layered stamping, etc.), don't stamp on every layout, & prefer wood-mounted rubber stamps. I have & use the WRMK Precision Press in mini, Advanced/regular, & 12x12 (all purchased on clearance for less than $25 total!) with my relatively few photopolymer stamps. It provides even pressure, a better impression, & the ability to reink/restamp multiple times to darken the image as needed, making photopolymer stamps more usable for me. Best wishes with your search; hope you find one that works for you.

I use the Tim Holtz one, and one that my mom made back in the early days when MSP wanted to sue everyone. I normally don't advocate for rip-offs of products, but Temu has a knock-off of the Misti that I think Shakti uses if you want a Misti type one without supporting her.

I got mine on Ali Express, but I'm pretty sure it's identical to Temu's. It works well. What kind of stamping do you think you'll be doing, nana2callie? Mostly for scrapping? Cards? Mixed media?

Mixed media and cardmaking - for the most part.

I would certainly start with a Chinese knock-off MISTI. If that doesn't meet all your needs, you can look at other options.

I have the HA one, and find some places more difficult to stamp than others. Even reinking and restamping doesn't get to all the areas.
Thinking about getting one of those tools you hold in your palm to extend pressure over it's lid. Cathy Z uses one alot. Does anyone know what that is called?

I don’t think there’s one generic name for it - most often I think they’re called a pressure tool, but a lot of brands use their own name for it. I made one with a lid from a Yankee Candle jar - just glue a round of felt to the bottom. I think there are other DIY versions too but again, a lot of people call them different names. A piece of wood covered in felt with a doorknob attached?

grammadee - I got the cheap one off sb.com - it's essentially an air hockey paddle, and does the trick. Any flat surface covered in felt with a knob on top to hold does the trick.

Another thing you might consider getting is a dry board eraser if that turns out to be cheaper than the ones sold for the platforms. I know you probably don't have a Target, but I got one there for $1.99 in the office supply section.
