Casual commitments is an awesome saying. I want to casually commit to being a little more thoughtful to the people who pick me up when I need it. And pick them up this year!!

When you say "Finish Christmas Cards by August 1st"--does that mean you are making the cards?
If I were to make my cards to mail, no one would receive a card. I admire those who can create them.

I so wanted to participate in the holiday card exchange this year but I grossly underestimated the amount of time I needed to unpack and settle in. And the number of days off I would need due to my fibro ramping up. At least my asthma has less of an impact here. I really hope to make and send out cards for 2024. I already have the design in mind. I played around a bit to see if Copic pens or watercolors would be faster and still give me the look I want. I think it is going to end up a conglomeration of materials unless I switch to a more simple stamp.
I want to walk the dog daily. I live very close to the golf course and I think they are going to allow people who are not playing golf to walk on the paths next year. I won’t have the dog on the paths, of course, but if I can walk him in the morning around my block, and use the cart path myself in the afternoons, that will be great for me.
I am going to try to commit to a fixed number of boxes to unpack each day.
Start painting the 3 bathrooms.
Buy and learn to perfect sous vide cooking.
And if I can accomplish the above list and have all of my boxes unpacked, I would like to host a Friendsgiving next year. I don’t care if I don’t have all the rooms painted and the kitchen floor replaced yet, but I do need everything unpacked and the house looking nice and welcoming. I used to love entertaining and want to do that a lot here.
I want to start doing crafting lunches again. I held them where I made trays with all of the ingredients for panini sandwiches set out for everyone to make their own and had craft kits for everyone to assemble and customize. It was a big hit so I want to hold a few of those here.
I did a personal-sized pizza once and I noticed that every person ended up making identical pizzas using every type of topping. Mine was the only odd one. I don’t like pepperoni or sausages on my pizza. I put all the toppings out thinking surely people will like different things or have allergies, but that particular group from my fibro ladies each put some of everything, making matching pizzas. We had a good laugh over it though. I had pretty much the same group on panini day and they all made the sandwich differently. I don’t know why I want people to make them differently, but I do.
If I can accomplish everything on this list, I will feel great!

Those are great ideas, don. I was unable to do things for a number of years, due to caregiving for my late DH. I know you were in the same position. It took me a little while to recognize I could go anywhere I want. I hope you'll do that traveling!

I love your 'casual commitments' idea, but if I finished making all my Christmas cards by August 1st, I would stash them somewhere 'safe' in my craft room and then come the first part of December, I would probably forget where they were! I'd like to say I work better under pressure, but the truth is that being organized timewise is not my specialty. I was still making cards the week before Christmas (to give out, not mail). I think I will make that one of my casual commitments for next year - get organized and stay that way!
I hope you are successful in attaining your commitments. Sounds like you have a great plan for your future and I wish you nothing but the best!

I like the "casual commitments" idea.
I would like to start walking on my days off.
Get organized and minimize.

I am challenging myself to read at least a book a month. I have SO many books I want to read, just sitting here waiting for me, but I haven't been in the mental spot to do it.
I am also giving sugar back up. I have to. I feel so much better without it.

My Keyword for 2024 is Mindfulness I am aiming to be more mindful about all aspects of my life: what I eat and drink, what I read, exercise habits, my knitting and scrapbook projects and my spending. No particular 'goals', just that I think about what I am doing and why. I feel that there is too much junk food, drinks and reading happening at the moment, and that I waste a lot of time doing trivial things when I could be doing more meaningful things. If I end up losing weight and achieving more, that is going to be my reward, but I don't want unachievable targets. I'd like to walk my dog in the morning and eat less animals. I don't have a dog, but these are two of my aims as well - walking every day and eating at least one or two vegetarian meals each week

I always have the same one. Be nice to old people. I have also added be nice to old dogs. I feel like those are two things I can easily do and then I can feel good about myself for sticking to them.

don , where would you like to travel? You've more than earned some nice vacations. I'm going to really focus on doing at least one thing per day that I truly enjoy. We'll see how that goes. Right now I'm in a holding pattern and any goals seem a bit far off into the future. This year I really want to take my oldest son to NYC. We both loved it and dh has been there so much for work that he isn't interested in going. So, I want to go and really explore the city. We shall see. He is on a teacher's schedule, so we have to go with the crowds.

New Year's Casual Commitments
This is a great thing to call what we do at the end of the year! I like your list donHere are few of mine: - I joined a book club - like a real life one! I want to keep up on the books for that (one per month) - I want to actually make gifts for people ahead of time for X-Mas next year! - Eat less so my clothes fit and I feel better - I love food, so this is a challenge for me - Clean and organize the whole house! The last few years, it has gotten quite cluttered and it is impacting how I function. I don't like it and it needs to be fixed! - I started to quilt. I love it and I want to make it to a couple of retreats :-) - I also want to spend less time on my phone. It is so easy to get sucked in to games and facebook

I want to have at least one real conversation with someone outside this house (that means other than DH) every day. (2P's and other social media doesn't count).
I'm home a lot and I like that but it can be too isolating. I'm hoping that simple resolution will encourage me to get back to knitting group, to go to other events when I don't really feel like it (I usually am happy I went) and meet some new people. It can be a phone conversation so perhaps it will encourage me to call some old friends and reconnect or at least catch up.

My commitment is to do a thorough "stuff" go through. Every closet, cupboard, drawer and box. I usually do this 2-3 times a year.
I am feeling very full (not cluttered) and I want to let go of more stuff. Over time......stuff and things are acquired, received, purchased, etc... Over the past several years I have been replacing the "this is what I can currently afford" stuff, with the stuff I actually want and love. I now have only stuff I love, but I am feeling full and like I have too much for my smaller space. It's time to let some of it go.
I am one person. I rarely have someone over. I don't entertain. Doing a kitchen cupboard clean out, I realized I have 22 pieces of drinkware (mugs, glasses, wine glasses(never used), margarita glasses(never used). Never used >> bowls, a platter, a charcuterie board, etc... Gifts I kept because they matched the rest of my dishes, glasses and serve-ware. I am letting the unused stuff go. That is the start. I'm slowly going through everything.
I went through my Christmas stuff, before I put it all away. Anything that wasn't used this year........is in the donation box. Currently working on my kitchen.

My casual commitments:
Stick to my new mantra: Don't put it down, put it away. Hopefully, it will help keep the clutter under control.
To set up and organize my new craft room so that I can actually go in and create something without having to clean, search for supplies, or move things that are not craft related.
To start going through all of the boxes in the garage and storage labeled "To Go Through".

I love that term "casual commitments." My usual New Years resolution is to make no resolutions.
My goals for this coming year are really dependent on a couple things that don't have resolution yet. I'm waiting to hear from my ortho surgeon if I have to have rotator cuff shoulder surgery on my dominant arm. If so, that will take me out of a lot of things for months. I also need to get my older dog to the vet next week to do more bloodwork to see if he has Addisons or Cushings. Hopefully neither. But if so, we will deal with it although it will put a big crimp in my budget.
I'm really hoping to get up to MN to visit my 95 year old stepmother and hopefully to Ohio to see my brother and sister-in-law. Depends again on my shoulder and my budget.

Oh, I like that term, Casual Commitments. That I might be able to do.
One of mine is get my butt off the couch and get up to my scraproom after work. Which would then let me accomplish number two, move more.

I am casually committing to eating one fruit and one veg a day. I know it doesn’t sound like much but I often don’t even do that.
Editing to add that I eat a lot of other far less healthy things - lest it sounded like the fruit + veg were all I was going to eat lol.

I would like to learn something new this year. I'm not sure what yet. Maybe power tools? A new type of cooking? Something.
I also want to travel more. I am planning on going to New Mexico for the balloon fiesta in October.
I am going to be a grandma in June. I want to be the best grandma I can be. My kids didn't have the greatest grandparent experience. I want to do better.

Like everyone else, I love the idea of casual commitments rather than R.E.S.O.L.U.T.I.O.N.S.
I have two:
Get my house de-hoarded and fast. That mostly means getting rid of older craft supplies that I’m never going to use again. Like, I have lots of wonderful wood-mounted stamps. But since the life-changing MISTI entered my life, I never use the wood mounts anymore. They’re going bye-bye.
Get myself out of the house. After nearly a year of cancer treatment, I still find myself burrowing in and not wanting to go anywhere. I need to stretch myself and go do new things now. (I remember the exact same syndrome after my first cancer go-round, 25 years ago. I ended up getting a job that I loved and stayed at for five+ years last time. Not getting a job this time, but maybe some travel? I sure hope so.)

I absolutely love Casual Commitments! I am casually committing to starting more threads on this or the scrapping board. I have noticed that the board has slowed down and want to participate more to keep it active! I’m casually committing to using my scrapbooking stash, which is grown significantly this past year! lucyg …please plan a trip to the east coast! karenlou and I will drive to CT to shop (hmmm…browse?) at Papercraft Clubhouse with you and go to lunch!

I've already started getting back to the gym after having RSV. Other than that, mine are:
More water, fewer carbs, less wine. Digitize the Christmas videos. Make and send birthday cards to my friends. I always forget until the day of. Get some house projects done.
