I put the fan on medium and switch to recycled air for a bit.

I turn the defrost on high to clear windows. Even the cold air blowing is warming than the temperature in the car. When the windows are mostly clear, I'll turn it down and put the vents on for heat.
The rise of heated seats has made getting into a cold car much more tolerable and I will never go without that benefit again if I can manage it.

My car lives in a 50° heated garage so at least half the time it doesn’t need to be warmed up. I get in and go. The other half of the time (when I’m out somewhere and getting ready to head home) in winter anyway, it usually isn’t sitting out for very long between stops. For example, I might leave my heated garage to go to the chiropractor which is a 15 minute drive. I’m in there for maybe 10-15 minutes. Get in my still mostly warm car and go to a secondary destination like Target or Costco, about a ten minute or less drive away. It will sit in that lot for maybe 30-45 minutes to an hour at most, so it’s still not totally cold like it would be if it sat outside overnight in below zero weather. Then I drive home (20-30 minutes, depending on the time of day) and it goes right back into the heated garage. Most of the time in recent years I haven’t even needed the snow brush (although I probably should find it and put it back in the car now that it’s technically winter again). I do love my heated seats though and won’t ever go without that option again.

We use the auto function. So it will be a low fan until it heats up and then the fan speed will increase as the cars warms up. No touching, the car does it all.
