Finally feeling human. The plus side of being so sickā¦the fridge, freezer, and cabinets have been culled.
I am the one that shops usually. Have been home for a week and a half and nothing has been coming in, just leaving the house.

LOL, I used to drive my college roommates crazy. Every surface on my side of the room was covered in stuff, but you could open my closet or my drawers and everything was organized. I could even find specific CDs in my CD binder in the dark because they were alphabetized. š¤£ Have you taken the clutterbug quiz yet to see what type you are? With everything micro organized and hidden in drawers but also out everywhere suggesting visual, Iād be curious to see where you fall. And maybe that will help you find some helpful suggestions for your organization style.Ā What type of clutterbug are you?I got butterfly. I really think my odd organizing style is a combination of my perfectionism and ADHD, with a possible dash of OCD tendencies thrown in. When something is organized for me, it is really organized. When it isn't, it looks like something straight out of hoarders. I do need things to be easy to put away, and I need things organized in a way that makes sense for my brain. I struggle with getting too granular. I think this is why I am hung up on my stamp storage. I want to get rid of some stamps I won't ever use, but I'm afraid to cut apart stamp sets and then hate the results.

Iām caught up to here in reading. I havenāt been too productive because even though itās been 4 weeks since I got Covid, it threw my autoimmune issues into overdrive. Just when I thought I could start making a dent, DS ended up with strep and flu. Today I got done more than I think I have in 6 weeks. I managed to get through all of the DSās sheets and blankets from being sick. I also managed to get the kitchen to the point that itās not a disaster and found the countertops. Went to put solo cups in the cabinet and they wouldnāt fit so I decluttered the paper goods shelf. Tonight we are eating dinner on sesame street paper plates from DSās birthday 6 years ago because I donāt know why I was saving them.

Tonight we are eating dinner on sesame street paper plates from DSās birthday 6 years ago because I donāt know why I was saving them. What a fun thing to do on a Friday night! It's a great way to use up what you have as well. I did that last year with those paper hand towels you put out for company. It was a very odd assortment!

I got Christmas packed up. One of our outdoor light up reindeers died mid season and we couldn't fix it, so I threw him out. I also tossed a couple of broken ornaments.
While I was in the cupboard I pulled out a roll of flywire netting and a couple of conduit curtain rods to list on my local buy nothing group, and tossed one that is too small to fit any of our windows and too rusted to give away. Not a lot has come out of the cupboard, but it feels tidier than it has in some time.

Trash service is suspended this week to deal with snow, which has halted actually getting stuff out of the house.

Well, that Clutterbug quiz was interesting.
While doing it, I thought that some of the options were too similar, or didn't make sense.
When I finished, it told me that I am a bee. I would agree with that description!

I got butterfly on that quiz too. I donāt think that description is exactly right though because some of my stuff is insanely organized and neat while other stuff is a total hot mess. I will agree with the concept of using clear bins or labeled containers and I do utilize some of that. But Iām not really a fan of using tons of hooks or open shelving because those are the very types of things that tend to quickly fall into hot mess status in my house. I will admit to being a piler and thatās definitely a thing I need to work on. Right now my kitchen table is a hot mess already again, and I just had it totally cleared off a couple weeks ago. š¤¦š»āāļø
ETA: I think Iām a cross between a butterfly and a bee, because in some areas Iām highly detail oriented and want things put away (such as filing cabinets and drawers). But in other areas Iām not and I want to see my stuff, especially in my studio space where I enjoy seeing all the colors and textures of things out in the open on shelves (but I would really like those things to be more organized AND visual.

Besides using them on a Friday/weekend night figure out when someone is having a 1/2 birthday, anniversary date at your job or some other random date that marks something special, then pull out the paper plates to celebrate. Could turn into a fun family tradition!

Eta: No, this is not Deja vu. I tried responded on the road in the middle of nowhere a couple of hours ago and it didnāt appear to go through at the time. So I responded when we got home, went to catch up and saw the original. Oops. My craft space doesnāt follow my natural tendencies for everywhere else either crazy4scraps. Because Iām willing to trade function for hiding things. I mean, if I could afford a room full of cabinets with doors Iād probably take advantage. But, not if I have to sacrifice function in key areas. You all are doing wonderfully and your progress is really inspiring. Trash service is suspended this week to deal with snow, which has halted actually getting stuff out of the house. Well, thatās super frustrating. As soon as you make the decision youāre probably ready to let things go NOW. I got butterfly on that quiz too. I donāt think that description is exactly right though because some of my stuff is insanely organized and neat while other stuff is a total hot mess. I will agree with the concept of using clear bins or labeled containers and I do utilize some of that. I think a lot of our (general) issue is that people in our households have different organizing styles than we do. Iām a cricket (hidden, micro organizing) and DH is a butterfly (in view, macro organizing). So, complete opposites. Does anyone else have this combo? We have a lot of hooks on the backs of doors, so easy to access but you donāt see them when the doors are open. Our entry closet has them on the inside of the door so he doesnāt have to hang the jacket heās currently using on a hanger, or his hat and some running things. And tons of our items are macro organized in bins, behind doors or cabinet doors. Easy for him to just toss something in, but I donāt have to look at it. Theyāre labeled, but he likes what they suggested about having big labels, so weāll switch that up. However, while he, as a butterfly, likes seeing his things he canāt function when theyāre out. If there is a horizontal surface, there can be next to nothing on it because it gives his brain permission to just leave things where they are or set them down instead of putting them away. Weāve tested this so many times. And for me, while I like micro organization as thatās how my brain automatically sorts things, I function well with macro organization for most things. Better, in most situations. And DH finds it easier to use as well. The biggest thing I have to fight is my anal retentive, perfectionist tendencies. I have to tell myself to āget it done now, perfect it later.ā Otherwise I get paralyzed and have a hard time starting. Iām often not successful What do you do to fight your natural inclinations that donāt work for you?

Finally had trash picked up today. Was supposed to be Thursday. Was starting to think it might have been next Thursday before they caught up and to us. The snow is having a hard time melting. Supposed to be getting ice tomorrow night. š
Going to try to get caught up on laundry. Need to start tossing junk from unit #3. At least we found another auction house to consign stuff with so that is a plus. Auctioneer has been doing it for decades so he has built up a good following.

DH hasn't taken the quiz but I know we have very different systems, he tends to dump stuff wherever and likes things to be out and visible which drives me absolutely crazy.

None of the categories fit me perfectly. For example, seeing kitchens with open shelving with dishes on them is definitely not for me. At all. I want all of that utilitarian stuff behind closed doors, and I do very well with keeping those kinds of things organized. The problem areas in my kitchen are primarily the counters and the table. DH is particularly bad about using those spaces as drop zones and DD just never puts stuff away. As for macro or micro, I donāt know how or if that really comes into play. I like functional systems. For example in my kitchen, I have the utensils all in a series of drawers. The ones that can be used with the nonstick cookware are in the drawers next to the cooktop. The measuring cups and spoons and silicone spatulas are in a different drawer near the mixer. Silverware is in another drawer closest to the dishes. Theyāre all the same KINDS of things, but they serve different purposes. To me all of these decisions make sense vs. just having everything all mixed up. LOL, weāve lived in this house for 11 years, and just two days ago DH discovered for the first time that the top front of the sink base cabinet has a tip out where I keep all the scrub brushes, etc. I couldnāt believe he didnāt know! I also let perfectionist tendencies stop me from starting (or being successful with) certain tasks. OMG, I tried to organize my rubber stamps years ago and it was a total disaster. I tried to sort things into logical categories, but as anyone who stamps knows, there are too many things that could fall into multiple categories. Does this house with snow on it belong in Christmas, in winter or in houses / architecture? Does this pine tree go in nature, or Christmas or plants or trees? Or maybe things should be sorted by seasons. Or occasions. Or, or, or? Itās so easy with stuff like that to fall into a micro organizing rabbit hole and it just doesnāt work for me. So when I needed to organize my cookie cutters for baking, I went in a totally different direction. I didnāt categorize them at all because there are so many that like my stamps can be flipped into other designs for totally different purposes. I literally just put them into flat boxes however they fit, took a photo of each box and labeled both the pages and the boxes to match. I put the pages into sheet protectors in order and when I want to see what I have I just flip through that book and I know right where everything is (and where it needs to go back when Iām done).

Have been on a rollā¦ - Decluttered (by finally finishing!) about four craft projects/albums/tns. Now theyāre done they move to a different location and free up some space in the craft room. - Filed and recycled kids school items in preparation for the new school year. - Listed for sale some punches I no longer use (use dies instead) - Listed for sale skates daughter grew out of - Listed for sale craft items I just bought that Iāll never use (part of a larger kit that I WILL use but there is zero chance Iād ever use these on a page!) - Cleaned out school uniform cupboard and am donating items that no longer fit to school clothing pool or sick bay - Went through sticker folder and have a pile of random stickers to donate to the local preschool (they donāt care what it is as long as it sticks but there are lots of cute Disney items etc in the pile)
Dh may be made redundant soon so it resonated with me re keeping craft items for lean timesā¦. I have many ongoing projects but I will eventually get to them and complete them!
Clutter nests in my house are dealt with by me putting items from said pile in the rooms of the person they belong to. Or making myself finish the task so I can put it away š After the kitchen reno I realised one of the nests we had contained items I didnāt have a place for as I didnāt actually need themā¦ could this perhaps be the answer??? If itās not worthy of a place, or your time in making sure itās in its place, than is it worth having?

Forgot to mention I tried the clutterbug survey and I just donāt resonate with it at all. I have very specific ways of storing different things that hit every clutterbug category!! Pantry - clear labelled containers so I can see how much I have left of food items Bulk food storage - open, labelled but solid/non see through bins that you have to wheel out and rifle through Linen closet - open shelving, no containers as I need to reach and grab with no impediment - redesigned this cupboard specifically so I can just grab and go with the vacuum when we renovated! I know Iām missing one type of organisation style but you get my drift - I look at the examples and I think āyes for this space but hell no for that spaceā for each and every one!

Week One -Cleaning Grand Plan dewryceWeek 1- Front Porch - The front porch is an important asset to your home. First impressions are important. If the entrance to your home is a mess, then it doesnāt matter how organized the inside is, youāre still perceived as a āmessieā. Assemble your supplies, broom, window cleaner, screwdrivers, paper for lists, trash can. Start at the front door. Is there a dead rug for wiping feet? Is it savable? Toss it into the driveway for hosing down, into the trash, or into the laundry basket. Remove everything from the porch that you can. Trash bags, recyclables, kidsā toys, those boxes that go to Goodwill. Set things in the grass if you have to but get them off the porch. Is there a swing? Look at it closely. Are the hinges catching on clothes? Is it a disaster waiting to collapse? A quick turn of the screwdriver can fix that. How about the cushions? If cleanable, put them with the rug for hosing down. If trash, then trash them. Write down āget new cushionsā on your list. Take the screens off the windows. Put them with the rug & cushions for hosing. Using the broom, sweep every windowsill & doorframe. Sweep down the outside walls. Look up high-are there cobwebs in the corners? Sweep āem down! After doing the walls & frames, then you can sweep off the porch itself. Donāt forget the steps. Open the front door and sweep off the sill too. Do you need to change the light bulb? Put new bug lights on your list. Wash the outside of the windows. While theyāre drying, get out the hose & spray off the rug, screens & swing cushions. Put the screens back on the windows. Now step back and admire what youāve done so far. Look at the mess in the yard that came off the porch. Does any of it belong back on there? Do you have to keep the weekly trash there or can you hide it somewhere else? Toys in the back yard? Perhaps a big bucket for front yard toys? Only you know what can stay there. Do the hedges in front of the porch need trimming? Either put that on your list for the next nice Saturday or get out your clippers & trim them up now. Does the front door need painting? How about its screen? New hardware can make a big difference. What about the mailbox? Does the doorbell work? Write down any fixes and set a specific time to do them. And then do them when the time comes! As long as youāve done this much, go ahead and look at the sidewalks & driveway. Too much junk? Remove it to the backyard. Sometimes itās easier to hose down the driveway than to sweep it. Now go out to the street and really look at what youāve accomplished. Arenāt you proud to live there now? You should be! Head inside for a well deserved rest. Donāt forget to take that list you made & transfer it to either SHE cards or your planner!

Taking stuff off eBay to donate. It's stuff that's been on there awhile with little to no views.
Think my Dad is going to load stuff in van to donate today since it's supposed to rain next 3 days.
