Another medium donation box out the door. And I finished re-organizing and labeling my embellishment drawers. I’ve had them by color forever but I changed the way I scrap so I switched it to type of embellishment for now. Made some temporary labels, will wait on more permanent until I know this new way works for me. Also took advantage of the room I’m creating and rearranged several drawers and shelves. And we switched the shelf the TV is on. Did a lot of work and almost cleaned off my desk and did clean off the table where I’m doing a project for my mandala dotting. I just have one small stack of papers to put away but my back was d o n e for the evening. Feels really good in there! If any of you are interested in organizing your craft supplies joblackford posted a link in the organization thread on the other board for a free day or weekend of classes to stream. mich5481 That’s a great idea with the large collection of inexpensive silverware. I remember my Granma threw away a lot of her good jewelry too, including her wedding rings. Might try and keep an eye out. A couple years ago my friend gave me all of her mom’s clear quilting rulers and a few rotary cutting tools plus replacement blades. I haven’t quilted in probably two decades but I’ve used those quilting rulers and rotary cutters SO many times for other things since then! They’re great for tasks like evenly shortening pants hems, cutting off selvedges evenly, shortening king sized pillowcases down to standard size, cutting bias strips for other sewing projects among other things. I’m so glad I have them because those rulers are EXPENSIVE! I only had 2 square rulers and I know I won’t need them again so I’m happy to let them go to someone who can use them. I might consider keeping the rotary cutter though, eventually I have some items for the house I’d like to make. Have had the fabric for years linda I don’t think I ever realized you weren’t born here in the US, but I just noticed the spelling of tyre and checked your location. We had a year like that with the house last year. Everything that could go wrong did, including needing foundation work. And we had major work done on our trees. Ouch. So I know the feeling and hope it improves for you soon.

mich5481 I’m sorry, that must be really difficult, physically and mentally/emotionally. I lose things when my mom visits and helps out as well, but she doesn’t live here, I can’t imagine. Right now I’m still working on my craft room. And I’ve got quite a pile going in the corner now, including some big items so I’m pretty excited. This time I’m actually getting rid of some basic craft supplies that I’ve been keeping because I’m a crafters I need crafter’s basic tools, right? But I’m thinking about how long it’s been since I’ve used some of them, and acknowledged that I’m not likely to need them for the crafts I enjoy doing most. So I made myself follow the 20/20 rule (can replace for $20 in less than 20 minutes) and am donating a lot. Even some quilting items that I used for a t-shirt quilt that would cost quite a bit more than that to replace, but the likelihood that I will pick up quilting any time soon is pretty low. So they were added to the pile last night. Along with a shoe box full of small sewing accoutrements. I am keeping my sewing machine, serger and some items to go along with those. But I’ve cleared a lot of breathing room in here and am organizing to fit the newish way I’m crafting and it feels great. A couple years ago my friend gave me all of her mom’s clear quilting rulers and a few rotary cutting tools plus replacement blades. I haven’t quilted in probably two decades but I’ve used those quilting rulers and rotary cutters SO many times for other things since then! I’m so glad I have them because those rulers are EXPENSIVE! I use them for cutting mat board and cardboard for projects as well. Just use a different blade that you mark so you don’t mistakenly use it on fabric.

Yes - born in England, raised on British bases in Germany and Cyprus and moved to the States when my dad retired (my mum is American). We added a fourth tree to the work today..it'll be nearly as much as the other three combined to take down but...if it comes down on its own, odds are it'll land in the neighbours yard (or worse their house) and we would be liable so... I'm claiming trees as my decluttering today - a big sweet gum, a big water oak, a big pine tree (that the new expensive one), and a small dead tree that's been dead since we bought the place and I have no idea what it is.

Linda I think tree removal counts as decluttering. You are removing that project from your to-do list, whether it's mentally or a written list. I always feel lighter when those types of projects are complete.

Tree removal does indeed count as decluttering! Based on our past experience, I'd be saying good riddance to the sweet gum and the pine tree. Those are 'nothing but problems' kind of trees. Sorry about the water oak. We had two magnificent water oaks in our front yard when we bought the house. I wish they lasted as long as live oaks. The larger one took the brunt of Hurricane Ike in 2008 and try as we might to save it, it had to be removed in 2011. The other one splintered and broke during a random afternoon rain shower a few years after that. So I feel you pain on the cost of removing trees! They were replaced with a single live oak that is finally putting off decent shade.

The Sweet gum dropped a huge limb last month that fell across into the oak - the tree guys came out then and took that limb down to avoid it falling across our doorway - it was suspended above it. Unfortunately that did quite a bit of damage to the oak. Those two are on either side of the front door. The pine is huge but on the property line and got killed by a lightning strike. We have plenty of other trees so won't be replacing them.

Daily declutter task from My Simpler Life Declutter Calendar: Declutter cookbooks, copying any recipes that you still want to keep. I realize this is one of those “pry it from my cold dead hands” items for some people , but we moved ours into the Paprika app and never looked back. It feels so dang good not to have to flip through tons of different sources when deciding what chicken meal we want for dinner next week.

Have you looked into the Paprika app? The peas recommended it and it is fabulous (and super cheap!) You just put the web address into Paprika, it goes to the page and takes the photo, ingredients, directions, notes, and nutrition info from the page, formats it and downloads it for you. So if the original is no longer there you still have it, but you also have the link if you want to go and see if there were any changes.

Have you looked into the Paprika app? The peas recommended it and it is fabulous (and super cheap!) Another vote of approval for the Paprika app! Game changer for my old eyes as I can read better on the iPad in the kitchen. I like it so much that I bought the app for my Mac, my iPhone and my iPad (they are sold separately). They are set up to sync when I add to one of them. So handy to be able to check the ingredient list when I have a recipe brainstorm at the grocery but can't remember all the ingredients. Not only can you download the recipes from online, you can enter your own recipes. Years ago I typed out all my most used recipes and made a binder for an overseas move with very limited luggage space. Those are in a folder on my Mac and I have been able to copy/paste them into the Paprika app. Granted it is one at a time, but it's nice not to have to type them out again.

I'm also a happy Paprika fan - We bought the app for my phone and tablet, DD17's phone, and DD23's tablet. The big kids (DD23 and DS32) sign in with my user name/password and have access to all of my recipes. DD17 is able to pull up recipes on her phone when she's cooking. SO convenient to have all the recipes in one place and we all can add new ones.
trees are down - next decluttering project is waiting for the tree company to send the truck around to declutter the massive pile of tree branches and trunks. They're also sending someone out on Monday to fix the driveway. The pine tree didn't quite fall where planned - they had lined up logs to 'catch' it - and hit the driveway instead leaving a big divot.

joblackford - divot might not have been the right word - there's a huge crater where the tree hit - like a pothole? It's concrete but apparently only 2" thick (house was built in 79/80)

We were supposed to have a huge maple tree taken down last winter, but because it never got cold enough for long enough to really freeze the ground the tree company didn’t want to drive on our neighbor’s lawn with their huge bucket truck. So it’s still standing and I’m not sure when we’ll be able to have it taken down. 😕

While crafting, I came to the end of a roll of Washi tape. 😂

Daily declutter task from My Simpler Life Declutter Calendar: Clear off the right kitchen counter, only putting back daily items.A week or two ago DH agreed to try putting our huge Boos Block into the cabinet with all of our other cutting boards, and he said it hasn’t been an issue for him. Yay! The difference it makes in the look of the kitchen is amazing. Y’all…I did it. After cleaning out/thinning out our small bag of charging cords and blocks last night I decided to tackle the ‘What the $*@# does this go to’ bag of misc. wires and plugs this morning. I opened it up ready to start googling and see if I could identify them when I decided that no, I’m not doing it, I’m not spending that time looking them up. They are all just all getting recycled. I think I made this bag in 2020 or 2021 when I did the declutter challenge and we haven’t needed them since then. It’s not a big amount of space, maybe a gallon or two ziplock bags’ worth, but mentally this is huge for me. Now, am I tackling the shoebox of items in the ‘I have no idea what this goes to but they look important’ box of items in the garage? Don’t be ridiculous.

Today my goal is to move boxes (contents are the contents of our old entertainment center) to the back of the living room.. move the center pieces out and get ready for lugg to haul away. I have a long low bookcase to replace it.. then going through boxes and getting rid of stuff. I need to have dh around so he can disconnect the tv system and set it up again. my goal is to get that accomplished by next weekend

So it’s still standing and I’m not sure when we’ll be able to have it taken down. Wow - that's a pain. Hopefully next winter will colder and you can get it down. The tree that hit the driveway would have been easier to take down if they could have dropped it on the neighbour's side of the fence (tree was on the property line) which was pretty empty but their drainfield is there so that wasn't possible. Our side had the driveway and a shed and a BUNCH of other trees so they were really limited on options of where to drop it. And it was too tall for them to take it out in segments - their equipment didn't reach high enough. They ended up trimming a bunch of our other trees to clear a space for it to come down without damaging the other trees.

A few years ago we did this with a 45 qt storage bin FULL of old cables, cords and assorted attachments. Donated the entire thing in one fell swoop. Have not missed it and to date have not had to replace a single thing. Amazing isn't it! Sent a bag of clothes that no longer fit and/or like with the housekeeper this week. Her church has both a food and clothing bank so I know it will be used by someone. This next week I'll be pulling fabrics I no longer love/need for the quilt guild garage sale next Sat. There is a 5 yard piece of decorator fabric in the storage unit I need to go pick up this week as well. For some of the larger pieces of decorator fabrics that I still love, my plan is to keep 1 yard for myself (enough to make a tote bag or pillow) and sell the rest. Seriously need to free up some space on the fabric shelves. See these shelves? The two right columns vary in depth from 25" to 36" due to an angled exterior wall, so every single shelf is double deep with fabrics. A couple of the shelves are triple deep. What can I say, I love fabric!

You are a brave woman! These were originally part of a huge box of more of the same that I went through one at a time trying them on various electronics around the house and googling. That is a ton of fabric **GypsyGirl**. How do you manage it? Do you just know what you own in your head or have swatches together somewhere? Or is it maybe organized in a particular way that you know where to look for a specific type of fabric? I hope you find a lot for the sale!

Or is it maybe organized in a particular way that you know where to look for a specific type of fabric? Organized by type of fabric (garment, quilting, decorator, vintage). Much of the quilting fabric is organized and labeled in those clear boxes/drawers you see. The drawers below are mostly things like interfacing, embroidery machine tools/supplies, etc. Even with it being organized, it still takes time to go through it shelf by shelf, which I usually do twice a year.

As for the charging cables and cords, the easier thing is to see what you own that needs a cord and then look to see if any cords match up. I had a bunch too that got lumped together when we moved, but I think most of the stuff they went to had been recycled previously. BUT I did have a P Touch labeler that was either battery operated (4 D cells which we almost never have on hand) or you could use a cord. So I went digging through the basket to see if I could find the cord for that thing and sure enough, it was in there. After that, I started putting labels on the cords for anything that didn’t have a permanently attached cord so if they ever got separated I would know what cord goes with what device. After that, I ended up taking a whole mess of miscellaneous cords and old pieces of unneeded equipment to the county electronics recycling center. It’s also really handy to have the cords labeled if you have to sift through a mess of wires to see which one goes to the tv, BluRay, stereo components, etc. for some reason.
If you do label your cords, use labels made of Tyvek so they won’t tear or fall off. ETA: strapping tape stuck to itself will also work if you already have that. Just write on it with a Sharpie.

Today was the drop off for the kids consignment sale. Mostly big items went and a ton of never worn shoes. It was bittersweet. Finally gone are the crib and train table. But it was time. The kid is going to be 9. At work I managed to get the "pantry" cleaned out and and reorganized. I was sick of trying to grab a fork to eat my lunch and stacks of plastic cups falling off the shelf. Dh took 4 boxes of papers from work and 2 from the house to the community shred day this morning. Like someone else posted, I've been busy organizing and decluttering my to do list. Tomorrow will be taken up with taxes and a busy week coming up so probably not a lot of good decluttering for awhile.

I do label our cords as they come in, and have for years upon years. That tells you how old these particular cords are. But your post reminds me, my label makers can also use batteries or a plug and I have no idea where the plugs are so I need to go check those to see if i just threw them in our special recycle bins, thank you! I never think of them having cords because I never use the cords but I would be annoyed as anything if I was in the mood to make labels and I couldn’t because my batteries died. When I’m in the mood to organize I’m really in the mood to organize! The tape for my label maker works perfectly, I just add some space to print the label long and fold it in half over the cord. Not attractive, but that puppy isn’t going anywhere! The huge pile of stuff from my craft room is in the car, save for a few items I need 2 gallon bags for and they’ll be here tomorrow. My craft room desk is cleared off, and so is the extra table I have in there to make samples of all of my acrylic inks. The room is actually completely picked up and at least half of it has been really well decluttered with my most recent ‘get rid of all the things’ mindset. It feels so good to be in there again! And while I’m working I’m watching the latest round of DVDs I’ve selected to see if I want to keep them. So far all 3 of them have taken a trip to the donation box, along with another one I didn’t even watch again. Tonight I’m going to work on reducing the amount of hardware we keep for things that come up. It is super handy to have it when the need arises, but I’ve noticed that since I’ve reorganized it we have only needed certain types of hardware. Without looking at it my goal is to at least cut it in half. And then I’ll make permanent labels to replace the ones on post it’s I made last time. natscraps Sometimes it feels even better to ‘declutter’ a task I’ve/we’ve been putting off than it does to take several donation boxes out of the house!

adding cords and cables to my to-do list. I wonder where my label maker is and whether I have label tape? probably not. I don't think I have a power cord for mine.

This weekend was more gardening projects than in the house decluttering, but sometimes that's just how it goes.
I decluttered the invasive "fish mint" that my neighbors have planted in their garden beds, but that has sprung up in my garden beds (because of course it has).
It smells so awful. And it just wants to spread all over and take over. Ugh.
I mulched the heck out of the garden beds, both out front and in the back. I'm really hoping that it cuts down on the invasive weeds finding a foothold in my veggie garden out back. And hoping that it retains moisture in the soil, if this summer is anything like last summer.
I still have at least two more beds to mulch.
