Took out all the clothes that I seldom wear from my closet this morning ... it always feels good to get that little bit of extra 'breathing room' in there! Now I'm putting off going into the basement to play around in my pottery studio because I have to walk by/through dd's giant mess to get there, and I don't think I can face her mess today ...

I realized I haven't popped into this thread in almost a month. Probably because I haven't really done any decluttering or organizing. With summer birthdays, and just generally trying to make summer break "fun" for the kids, I haven't done much other than actual cleaning. Inside the house, and outside.
Also, I am so tired of cleaning, but not seeing progress. Just cleaning the same dust, the same dishes, the same carpet to vacuum over and over again, but never really feeling that it is "done." Ugh.

We have a free weekend and I want to focus on cleaning. I just went through the dog toys and threw out the ones that were in the worst shape. I am heading into the bathroom now to go through my hair/skin products. I have a hard time parting wit things at times but I think I am ready!

On day two of cleaning the crud from the bottom of the oven. Another by product of COVID and 5 months of being basically useless. Normally, I clean the spills as I go. Took the card board to recycling Thursday. And, the Beast has destroyed 2 blankets. He no longer is allowed blankets for his overnight comfort. He is still being crated overnight. 10 months old yesterday. Small amounts leave the house at this point. Many are simply attrition.

Going through craft supplies again. Will probably donate to volunteer/extension group yard sale whenever the next one is. Plan on giving them couple boxes full.
Need to tackle my shed. I dread it though.

Spent my week working my way through Mount Laundry. All the random little loads that had piled up. Did a quick declutter and a full clean of our bedroom.
Made some plans with DH what things are going to be stored where. Started working on clearing the cobwebs in the basement today so I can start reorganizing. DH had gotten in the habit of just shoving things on random shelves down there that we canāt find anything (including my classroom stuff for back to school). Hoping to continue down there tomorrow.

In the process of cleaning the back room (sort of like a mudroom/can pantry/large baking pan storage area), I removed things that didn't belong, and put like items with like items.
I'm knocking out all the laundry to have a fresh start to the week.
Lots of cleaning, and vacuuming.
Paid bills, and will review next month's budget.

I havenāt been doing much because weāve been so busy lately, but I did go through the canned stuff in the pantry cabinet and got rid of a bunch of stuff that was too old to even be questionable. I need to put a tickler reminder in my phone to go through that stuff twice a year and just donate anything that is getting close to the use by date. It made me a little sick to throw out almost a grocery bag of canned stuff that someone should have eaten but didnāt. The date on the oldest can was 2017! š±
Another thing I could do is consolidate the canned stuff to one shelf since we really donāt seem to eat those kinds of things often, and use the extra shelf to give my baking stuff more breathing room, which I do go through more rapidly.

Busy busy busyā¦ dh parents emptied their garage and found boxes of his old toys etc. We havenāt gone through a lot of them but there were some easy āstraight to a listing on eBayā items so I spent my day taking photos and getting information about what I had in front of me.
While I was doing that I also listed a few Christmas lemax buildings that were gifted to me that I have just never gotten around to displayingā¦ they are lovely but Iām concentrating on the Disney ornaments Iāve collected instead and thatās okay, I had full permission from the person I got them from to do as I wished with them.

I've been cleaning out the walk-in closet and storage area in my lower level. I've been here over 2 years now, so if I haven't used things I need to think about letting them go. I have enough to fill the back of my SUV.
I'm donating a pile of organizing bins that I no longer use, a bag of nice silk flowers, 2 bags of Legos, glass storage containers, a Christmas throw, some 2 gallon Ziploc bags of scrapbooking supplies, decorative plates for under pillar candles, and a bunch more I can't remember.
My neighbor accepted a small bin of adorable toddler size pots and pans, along with play food.

I got a wall decal that I wanted to put up in my studio, but there was a literal mountain of stuff piled up in the space between my island and the built in cabinets on the wall. The boxes on the bottom had been there since the cabinets were put in which was in 2014? 2015? I need to get rid of some of the AccuCut dies that are in the boxes, but Iām not sure of the best way to do that. Some of the alphabets alone cost $800-900 hundred dollars back in the day so I kind of want to try to sell them before just donating them to a school or whatever. Maybe Iāll poke around on Marketplace to see if there are other similar things posted. Iād rather not have to ship them if I can help it because theyāre bulky and heavy. I need to go through and reorganize the fabric and felt that was in some of the other boxes which have been dug through so many times theyāre a total mess. Since it is stuff I actually use, I donāt want to get rid of it. I got some clear totes to make things easier to find which should help a lot. Thereās also a big box full of cardboard boxes that needs to be broken down and recycled in the basement that needs to get gone. Todayās trash/recycle day so the bins will be empty later, so it would be a great day to get rid of that pile. š Tomorrow I have to take DD to her band practice at school and will be going right by the clothing donation place, so I think Iāll drag the boxes of clothes down from the guest room and exit them from the house this week too.

I have been trying to clean up my sewing room (never ending task) and decided to post some stuff in a quilting sell FB group. I have now made over $600. from fabric/quilt kits that I had purchased in the past. I still have more stuff to put up for sale.
I've cleaned out a bit in the kitchen and in my storage closet. Slowly making some progress.

I just saw a post on Instagram that said that (according to a UCLA study) you can get 7 1/2 hours of your week back if you get rid of the things that you don't need. That is a crazy amount of time, but I can believe it if you ruthlessly declutter.

That is a crazy amount of time, but I can believe it if you ruthlessly declutter. I believe it! Think about how much time you spend looking for something and just can't find it? That happens more frequently when you have too much stuff and it isn't organized/stored where you can find things. I'm sure it ends up saving you money as well (not counting trips to Container Store ) because you are able to find things you already own, not running out to buy duplicates, not to mention buying less stuff overall.

well.. empty room report.. sewing stuff all organized and put away (except for very small bag...I got tired of it).. got handyman in today and they fixed the door that was off the jam. there is lots of room in there and a huge pile of my no longer fit clothes.. that my dd and her wife will look through before I move them on to goodwill.
at our condo, I packed up and got rid of all old dinnerware (two big boxes) and some old speakers, and fit in our "new" dinnerware from mil's house. I was able to fit it in, but dh didn't bring a box of bowls so that will be a challenge. I also put away two big boxes of new kitchen ware that had sat in. my study for 3 yrs.. waiting to get it to the condo. I am traveling for the next month so no more organizing for a while.. I have done a lot over the summer.

We managed to get back down in the basement and got a large section of storage shelves accessible again. Multiple bags/boxes to the garbage.
Unexpectedly had to declutter both refrigerators/freezers due to 5 day power outage from a macroburst storm.
Unfortunately my summer break is over and it was back to work today. Didnāt get nearly as much organizing done as I wanted but some progress is better than none. Only thing getting decluttered now are all the picture books and work files as I get ready for the school year.

That is a crazy amount of time, but I can believe it if you ruthlessly declutter. LOL I think I could save more time than that if the other people I live with would just put stuff where it belongs when theyāre done with it. Iāve started jokingly saying, āThatāll be $5!ā every time I have to go find something for one of them. My DD is particularly bad. Sheāll ask me where something is and I can give her a detailed description (itās on the white shelf in your bedroom, under the blue sweater next to your desk calendar) and she still wonāt be able to find the thing. Then Iāll go up there, move the sweater, and just like magic there the thing is, exactly where I said it would be. This happens multiple times per week.

Sheesh my eBay listings just got smashed in a good wayā¦ did I price things to sell? Yes. Why am I surprised they sold? Dunno. Do I have four HUGE boxes of items going to new homes tomorrow? HELL YES!!!! Seeing as what I sold has sat unloved and untouched in a cupboard for the whole three years Iāve had them, Iām okay with not necessarily āgetting what they may be/are worthā. Price is subjective, and these things were 20 years old and they looked it! Also, they were a nice memory of someone elseās house for me and me alone, my children have no attachment to them and they werenāt selected by me/mine so I didnāt use them. Iām spending the cash I got in getting tickets to an art display weāll go to on holidays that I know my kids will love and that will be an amazing family memory for my family, and I know what I sold is going to houses that will love and cherish the new items in their collections!

Dropped off the three big boxes of clothes and shoes at the charity place yesterday. Filled up the three totes I bought with the fabric I want to keep and broke down a mountain of cardboard boxes and almost filled up the empty recycling bin. Bought three more totes for the rest of the fabric so I can get rid of more cardboard boxes. The banker boxes that the stuff was in were okay for moving but theyāve been a pain for longer term storage because the lids get smashed, etc. Plus the clear bins make it easier to find what I want when Iām looking for something.
Now what was a huge messy pile will now be in a much smaller neat stack of clear totes. I want to go through the AccuCut dies I had on the shelf and reevaluate which ones I really want or need before putting any of them back. I havenāt used most of them in a decade, but there are some I still use or can see myself using. Theyāre nicer for heavier weight materials so I donāt want to just offload the whole setup, but there are a lot that could just go away and Iād never miss them.
I also identified a few other boxes/piles of things that I should go through again and reevaluate, like the huge pile of assorted stencils and cutting stencil things that I honestly wonāt ever use. I need to pull out the handful of cute ones from Pebbles in My Pocket that I could possibly see myself wanting to do something with at some point and see if DDās elementary school wants the rest that are basic shapes or alphabets. I still have some contacts at that school that I could ask, otherwise put up the lot on Buy Nothing.
