Are you a "the more the merrier" or a small group person?

For me, it depends on the type of gathering.

We used to have a NYE progressive w/2 other families in our neighborhood.  On the 3rd year, when we arrived at the first house, that family had invited another family over.  If it was their party, no problem.  But we (and the 2nd family), now had to have these people that we didn't particularly care for over to our houses for the rest of the progressive.  Not cool.

I have a Wrapping Party every year at Christmas time.  While I'd love to invite tons of people, my house just isn't big enough for more than 8 people to wrap their gifts and even then it's tight.  I therefore only invite 8 and only have 8 party favors.  When one of my friends brought her sister w/out checking w/me first, it was a little uncomfortable at the end of the evening to find I didn't have an ornament for my sister because that gal's sister had taken one.  

When we used to have our annual pool party, I was all about people bringing whoever they wanted to invite.

I feel the same way about our Scary Movie Nite.  The more horror fans, the better.

It just depends.  

Small group for me. Although when I go to large parties I always end up talking to a small group of people anyway. lol. I only have one regular really large party that I attend, a neighbor's big Christmas bash. The reason I don't mind that one is that it's two blocks up the street. So dh and I can walk there, then I can come home whenever I'm ready without having to wait for my more-sociable dh. 

Small group. I am an introvert in large group situations.

Small group. I like to mingle, but feel more comfortable if I know everyonr there pretty well.

I prefer a small group. 3-5 people is the best number to me.

I like small groups being around a lot of people is overwhelming to me.

A little of both

It depends on the type of event for me - I prefer small groups as a general rule but if it's a wedding or a large party type of event then that's ok too.

For the most part, I prefer small groups.  It also depends on the type of group.

I'm definitely a more the merrier type. If I have to clean the house, grocery shop and cook, I'm doing it for the greatest number I can fit in the house, around the pool, or in the back yard. Besides that way I'm not stuck sitting next to DH's best friend's wife over a 6 course dinner.

Small group for sure! We are spending a peaceful 4th at home, just the way I like it. I get a twinge of social anxiety in large groups. My sister-in-law is hosting a large party today (30-40 people) but we passed. I know and enjoy all the people there; I just get very jittery at a large gathering and really can't relax. My DH is comfortable in any situation. He can go from home to a large gathering without batting an eye.

I ended up watching the fireworks on Canada Day at a friend's summer place near the beach. Was lovely. There had to be about 20-30 people there. It was easy enough to mingle if you wanted to do so, or hang out with just the people you knew. I figure I knew half the guests, maybe two-thirds.

I do a big Christmas open house & I love it. Often have 40 when it's at its peak. But we all know each other & it's easy to find a small group to join in and talk to.
