or die cuts or even stamped images, how do design a pleasing layout? This is something I have the hardest time with. Thanks!

I'm not a card designer so I struggle with this too. However, there are sketches for cards! CardMaps

I usually look at IG of the companies from which I have products and get ideas on how to use them. Pinterest is also my go to place.

Sketches are a must for me. And always remember to use the rules of odd numbers of embellishments. 3, 5, 7.

I'm more of a scrappy cardmaker (use mostly scrapbooking supplies) rather than stamps/dies, so I use lots of "premade" ephemera/die cuts, etc. For those types of cards, one of my favorites is Anya Lunchenko. She mostly creates for design teams so she's using max product on each card, but she does a great job at layering elements. https://www.instagram.com/anya.l.studio

I'm not a card designer but I'm a damn good copier! I typically find card styles I like from Instagram and Pinterest and then use that design with my own stamps/dies. I'll be very honest, I will also copy a card exactly if I really like it and have the exact same supplies. ETA: Sketches don't work for me. I need to see a finished card.

I'm a copy cat. I see a design I like then find stamps and other elements in my stash that will work.

I use the sketches and things others have mentioned. Take classes/retreats.
I also look out my windows and often try to portray the plants and birds in my environment in my card making.

Part of the trick IMO is knowing what size of die cuts etc you find easiest to work with. I struggle mightily with those little Lawn Fawn stamps, or making scenes from lots of little images. I know in principle that you need some kind of grounding lines and a focal point and all that, but I find little stamps impossible to use. The one way I make them work is to have a window or grid die cut background to place them in.
Big die cuts and stamps are much easier for me. I tend to use two or three 2x3"ish die cuts on an A2 card, and then I can add a few smaller bits because most of the space is already established. I have absorbed a lot of basic design principles from watching hours of videos from people like Shimelle and Jennifer McGuire, and people who make cards that look like mine, like Kristie Marcotte and Scrapbena Creations.
I would say copying or imitation is a really good place to start, but also just lots of practice. There are YT tutorials about laying out scenes that might help if you like making scenic cards or using LF type small images.

I use completed cards (not mine) as my "sketch". However, often the final product turns out completely different. I just need a little helping hand to get going. Occasionally I copy almost exactly.

I usually design my own cards, but when I use a sketch, it’s usually one from Queen & Co., since I use a lot of their dies. They have a lot of fun embellishments, too. Their focus tends to be shaker cards, but I use them more like regular dies. I occasionally do shakers, but not often. They just have cute designs, and their Foundation dies are great for card building.
