We are getting a new washer/dryer set (first time having a matching pair) and I'm wondering if it is worth the upgrade to get more features.
What upgrade features do you have and use all the time?
If it matters we are looking at LG.

My top load washer is about 3 years old. I have never once changed it from - Normal wash. 2 Rinses. The only thing I’ve switched is load size. But, it’s just me here. If something is delicate, I hand wash it.

I have a SpeedQueen top loader.
Big family, so a large capacity.
I just use basic settings, really. Heavy wash, set on warm for most things. Single rinse usually.

We love our LG appliances. That being said, I dont use all of the various settings so I wouldnt pay extra for more. I generally use Normal on the washer or, if the towels are seeming funky, there is a longer cycle I use.
The one thing I love about my washer is there is and "extra water" and an "extra rinse" button that I use all the time. Id pay extra for that.

I bought an old-fashioned top-load washer with an agitator as that's what I prefer. And the matching old-fashioned style dryer to go with it. I wash and dry most everything on just normal settings. Once in a blue moon, I'll use a delicate wash cycle and choose to tumble dry with no heat. That's about as fancy as it gets around here.

I generally use the normal wash setting with the autosensing for load size. I usually set on one rinse and use tap cold (eco cold). I occasionally use delicate and often use the bedding cycle (for blankets, bedding, small rugs, the cat beds...)

I've got a matched set of LG top load washer and dryer.
I have a gymnast so I use the "delicate" setting for her leotards and our leggings and sports bras. I use the "bulky bedding" setting for washing sheets and blankets- I can put a king size quilt in it.
I use the extra rinse sometimes but it's not necessary I use the delay start sometimes but also not necessary.
I know my washer can do WAY more than I use it for but the extra stuff isn't important to me and my laundry gets clean just fine.

I don't use a single upgrade feature.
I wash either regular, medium, or delicate on either cold, warm, or hot.
I dry depending on the items.
My dryer has a steam feature. Used it twice. Had dh disconnect the pipe line for it.

I admit to being weird and I use 4-5 settings on the washer. The dryer maybe 4. I like variety!

I'm not sure what are upgrade features. My washer and dryer are about 15 years old. I use delicates sometimes and always the extra rinse. For the dryer, I use the wrinkle release at times. There aren't that many features available on my set.

I have a giant top loading washer w/o an agitator and a large capacity dryer. I can wash a king sized quilt or comforter in them. They came with the house, but I wouldn’t pay for it. I can’t reach the bottom of the washing machine and need a grabber thingy to get out anything on the bottom. Some loads, I’m using it 20+ times to empty the washer. I makes me stabby!
As for the settings, I do use quite a few. I always use the highest spin setting—the less the water in the clothes, the quicker that they dry. I use the bedding setting, the workout clothes setting, and the delicate setting. But are they necessary? Who knows.

Nobody cares, but I love my washer and dryer. They are Maytag with an agitator top loading plastic. It’s big, too.

I bought an AEG front loader a couple of years ago (my first ever front loader!). I really like it.
I mainly use the standard "Cotton" setting. This has three time settings - 3:08 / 2:21 / 1:28. I usually set it to 1:28 unless the load has DSO's and DS's dirty work clothes.
The other setting I use: 20 minute quick wash - I use this setting to wash new clothes prior to use, to wash barely used pool towels, to wash clothes that I have soaked in the tub. Steam - DD used to use this setting for her work shirts to freshen them up if they didn't need a proper wash. I sometimes use it for the same reason, but will use the 20 minute wash more often. Duvet - to wash our doonas Delicates

I wash everything on cold and dry on delicate. My washer and dryer don't really have fancy settings so that works for me and it's energy efficient.

Thanks everyone I just needed reassurance that I wouldn't be missing out if I didn't upgrade to the more expensive model. We've had the same dryer since we moved in about 20 yrs ago. So not looking to update again any time soon if we can help it.

I can JUST BARELY reach the bottom of mine, otherwise I have a little plastic 6” high step thing that I could stand on if I couldn’t reach. caangel we have a matched LG set we bought last year that has way more features than we’ll likely ever use, but DH got a deal on them because they were demo units that were being discontinued from a place he sometimes orders things from for clients. I use normal warm/cold for most loads but will wash DD’s sweaters on delicate, blankets and comforters on the bedding setting with extra water and an extra rinse because that stuff tends to get clumped up and the soap doesn’t seem to get rinsed out as well otherwise. Most stuff gets dried on the standard setting with more time because some of DD’s and DH’s heavier pants don’t get fully dry otherwise. The dryer has an auto shutoff sensing thing that sometimes turns off too soon and I don’t have anywhere I can put a bunch of damp clothes to finish air drying.

I wash everything on normal, deep wash (top loading LG) so there is actually water in there. Dry everything on regular if it's not hanging to dry. I never even choose delicate or heavy duty.

This actually makes it even harder to reach the clothes without actually putting my body into the machine. It's REALLY deep and I have short arms. I'd say that 90% of the clothes are too deep for me to reach in a given load. I'm 5'2" and the machines are really big!

I wash my clothes on a quick time setting and my husband's on the normal setting. I dry with low heat. I would say I don't do anything special with the settings. My washing machine is a front loader.

New machines won't last 20 years. They are built to fail to buy new. That's my opinion. The fancy tech with touch screen will fail. The basic stuff to wash/ dry clothes has been lost with flashy tech.

I hate the touch screen type controls on my new LG set, but I LOVE the steam fresh setting on my dryer. I hang dry most of my nice clothing and I can pop it in for that 10 minute cycle and the wrinkles just fall out. It is magic. I would miss that feature now that I have had it.

If you use vinegar in any brand where it goes in the top of the washer, make sure it goes straight where it is supposed to. Ours leaked (it’s very possible we weren’t careful enough not realizing there was an opening there until too late) and ruined the inside of our washer. Other than that we loved it and had zero issues with our LG front load washer. Loved the sanitary setting for our kitchen towels and occasionally other linens. It’s been a couple years so I don’t remember what other specialty settings it’s had. Oh, a delayed start setting. Our current one also has that and I LOVE it.
Our LG dryer still works, purchased in 2008. However, I think the sensor is broken because on normal settings where it uses automatic sensor it shuts down very quickly. So we use the timed setting, has been about 6 months I think. I really love the wrinkle release, it’s works wonderfully well when we remember we have it! I also like adjusting the temperature and time. A feature I would love is one that can tell your phone when the load is done. Not necessary, but I like taking my clothes out immediately and hanging them to avoid wrinkles. If I’m upstairs I can probably hear it, but it doesn’t register with me.

I have only in the last 6 months or so had to get rid of my Maytag top loader that we bought in 1999 because there was a part that could not be sourced. I was sad to see it go. we bought a Miele front loader which I am happy with but still preferred the top loader.

If it matters we are looking at LG. I would avoid anything that has a lot of features and does not have an agitator. I learned that the hard way. I now have a Speed Queen commerical washing machine. It has no bells and whistles. It does not play me a tune! LOL. That it does is get my laundry clean. Something my fancy LG without an agitator did NOT. I have really dirty laundry that requires HOT water. My LG would not allow me to use straight hot water. It was a complete battle to get it to fill with hot water. Clothes came out DIRTY! I could see actual dirt/hay still on the clothes. I know I have way dirtier laundry that the average person - but that means nothing that is washed in those types of machines is really clean, IMO. I would not trady my Speed Queen for any other washer.

I use normal for almost every wash. I do have a bedding setting and an antibacterial setting (used for towels). I don't use any other setting. Same for drying. One for bulky (bedding) and antibacterial for towels.

The main fancy settings I use are the timer to do loads overnight after my shower, and the sanitize feature for my kitchen towels and cloths.

Pretty much the only time I change the settings is when I do bedding/heavy blankets. Just change to "heavy stuff" (can't recall what it actually says) so the spinning is different and doesn't make the washer walk away. 😉
I haven't had my washer/dryer too long and am glad I didn't buy into all the extras that I realized I'd never use anyway.
