I’d been meaning to post this, and the Instagram post was a reminder:
When you share your projects here that are on Instagram, those of us who don’t have an Instagram account can’t always see them.
Maybe that doesn’t matter to you, and that’s fine if you don’t care that you are limiting who can see your projects.
I have considered getting an Instagram account, but I need to spend less time online, not more, and one more account means more time posting my pictures/projects in multiple places. The fact that those who don’t have Instagram accounts can’t see the photos doesn’t exactly give me incentive to post there, because I know I would be limiting those who can see them.
I know there were a few of you who had your projects posted elsewhere, and they weren’t showing up here, but I was able to see most photos until recently. Now there are a lot more people posting on Instagram, and I can’t see them. Am I the only one here not on Instagram?
Is there a reason so many of you have switched to Instagram from where you were posting before?

What do you mean you can't see instagram posts, even when they're embedded here?
I have an instagram account, but frequently check these boards from a computer where I am not logged into instagram and can still see them when embedded here. I think you can't access the instagram app when you don't have an account, but you can see them embedded elsewhere or visit an instagram account on a web browser. I often click into instagram photos on my computer or ipad without being logged in and have no issues, other than a banner at the top urging me to log in or create an account.
I'm also curious where you are posting if not on instagram? Instagram is my primary place to share photos. If I share here, I just embed the instagram post. I can't think of many alternatives that exist besides facebook, and I have found that the community is much larger/interactive on instagram. But if you have another site that I am missing out on please share!

I have a private Instagram on my phone, but am not logged in on my computer which is where I Pea from. When I click on an Instagram link on here, all I see is "the grid" if I try to click on a specific post to get a better look, it doesn't do anything but pop up a log in screen.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'll tell you why my stuff gets shared on Instagram (sometimes) but shared less frequently here. I work in the media industry. Up until lately, my "day job" has been freelance writing / digital marketing. (I'm probably going to have to do a career change, but that is another thread entirely.) When I started, you didn't need to have a social media presence to be a successful writer, so I didn't have Instagram for a long time. These days, it is getting harder and harder for writers to get gigs if they don't have a social media presence and a following. On one hand, I don't want to spend all my time on social media. It's a huge time suck. On the other hand, most of my colleagues and also most of my real life friends are on Instagram. Many potential employers care about Instagram follower counts. Most employers outside of the paper crafting community haven't ever heard of 2 Peas. So I finally caved and joined Instagram, too.

Instagram has become my main source of inspiration and storage for all things crafting. I like the way I can see tags. I love that I can turn stories or pages on or off depending on the content I'm into at the moment. Right now I have all my garden/floral on pause until it's closer to spring.
I'm not certain where people are posting/storing their ideas. For me it's definitely Instagram. I can go in and check and be done in less than 5 minutes. Much easier and better than Facebook.
I never post my work here because I can't for the life of me figure out how. One of these days...

But if you have another site that I am missing out on please share! When I try to see a photo of someone’s card/layout that is on Instagram, I touch the image, expecting to see it come up. Instead, I get a message that I need to sign in, either to Instagram or through Facebook. I think Google might be an option, too. I don’t have my Facebook account connected to anything outside of Facebook, and I see no reason to put my sign in information for Facebook or Google into Instagram when I’m not on Instagram. There are so many ways that accounts get hacked, and there are some personal things (grandkid photos, etc.) on my Facebook page, so I am very, very careful about who gets access. I don’t add friends without making sure that “friend” is the one who sent the request. A lot of hackers get into Facebook. My brother and his wife closed their Facebook accounts, but Facebook continually sends me friend requests from my “sister-in-law’s” supposed Facebook page. She doesn’t have one, so I know it’s a phony account. Scammers, Spoofers, and Hackers are everywhere these days, trying to get your personal information. Both DH and I have had our identities stolen in the past, and it was a nightmare. I never want to go through that again. Since I don’t have an Instagram account, and I don’t think they have the right to ask for my Facebook or Google sign in, I can’t see anyone’s photos if they are on Instagram. I have had a craft blog since 2009, and that is where I post photos of my cards and other paper projects. I was teaching at the LSS when I started it, and I wanted a place to post photos of my projects. The LSS closed a few years later, and I moved to another state. I have no LSS, but I still like keeping a record of my cards and other craft projects. I realised recently that I have posted very few layouts there. I plan to correct that sooner than later, but my blog is where my craft photos are. The link to my blog is down below, at the bottom of this post in very small print. Most people don’t notice it. It has come in handy here, because it allows me to add a photo to one of my posts if I want, without taking up space in the gallery here.

I don't have an Instagram account (or Facebook) at all. I use the Tapatalk app to access this board on my phone.
When someone posts an IG link, I can click on it and see the post and also their last few posts. If I try too many, I get a "you must log in" pop-up message and can't see it any longer. If I re-click the original link again, I'm able to see the post.

I never post my work here because I can't for the life of me figure out how. One of these days... Also for blemon and others who might want an alternative way to easily share images here without using social media, there's a post on a card thread here for how to use postimages. The process for Flickr is similar but Flickr is pushing people to use paid accounts so it's a little more annoying and also more public. re the OP - sometimes people accidentally share here from private IG accounts which stops others from seeing the post imbedded and creates an error when you try to click to see it. Not everyone realizes there's a problem because some of us are following that account and therefore can see the post. I also think that depending on your device and how you're viewing things (tapatalk app, browser, etc) you can see very different things. Using a blog is a great way to share images and info but most people are so accustomed to the convenience of Fbk IG etc that posting on blogs can feel like shouting into the void. I have a few crafty blogs I like but I often forget they exist unless someone posts a link on IG, but then IG makes it a pain to leave their site and/or I have trouble leaving comments and never see a reply, so I end up just commenting on their IG post instead of on the blog... All in all I don't think most people want to start a blog if they don't already have one. There's just more sharing going on on IG and it's more convenient for a lot of people. (and yes, I know it can also suck).

It has come in handy here, because it allows me to add a photo to one of my posts if I want, without taking up space in the gallery here. It looks like you figured out how to see them without an account from reading further down in the thread so great! I also wanted to say, though, that I have had similar issues on facebook with people attempting to steal identities, etc. FWIW I have never had that happen on instagram even though I've had an account for over 10 years. If viewing them is still a hassle without an account, you can create an anonymous instagram account because it doesn't actually require you to link it to facebook or put in a real name. So, you could create an account using your pea name or another random screen name and then post literally no details about yourself/no photos and only use it to view photos. I get not wanting another source to check, but you could avoid the app and just use it to view photos here or wherever else they're embedded. That said, I think instagram is the primary location where most people post/interact. I totally get wanting to keep up with a blog and I used to have one years ago, but I find that social media is much easier and allows for much more interaction with others. And I think that instagram is waaaay better than facebook (I know they're both owned by the same company, but instagram doesn't have a lot of the flaws or security issues of facebook). Currently, I only share my projects on instagram + youtube. I like to share them here sometimes, but then I am just going to link instagram because it's too much trouble to find an alternate hosting site (I used to do it, but it became a pain). I'm sorry if not everyone can see them, I'd love for my posts to be accessible to everyone, but like you said, I have limited time that i want to devote to being online and sharing my content, and I just can't devote more time to adding additional sites. I think that everyone is going to have that issue because no one can post to every site and there is always going to be someone that doesn't use any particular site.

There are so many ways that accounts get hacked," I totally get what you're saying. This is a valid concern! I am constantly targeted by scammers on Instagram. Twice now, scammers have impersonated me and started new accounts using my name and images at times I wasn't online. Luckily for me, my real life friends who use Instagram reported them and got their fake accounts taken down. I've also had scammers follow and harass me. But I think I am more of a target for these types of things than is typical because I write for sizable media outlets, and my by-line is all over the internet. That said, Instagram and Facebook share common ownership, so if you have a Facebook account already, that company already has your data.
