I hate life sometimes. I love love my job. It's not difficult but challenging enough to keep me interested. I love the people I work with (except for the one weirdo I spoke of awhile back. She is the one that decorated the office in horror movie type decorations.. let me tell you, she is a weird duck.. haha) I love my schedule and being treated like an adult.
Anyways, when I left my previous job with the State, there had been no raises in over five years.. so my thoughts were get somewhere that I could get regular raises (especially if based on how well I am doing, etc.) I have been there over a year now and nothing. I keep getting told how much they like me and how well I have been doing. I poked around and asked about what the procedure is for raises. Not a real clear answer. But this isn't cutting it.
I took a huge hit years ago and feel like I am still struggling to get back to where I was. My friend and I were talking and we both made the same for years as we did similar jobs. She is now well $30,000 ahead of me. And lives in a less expensive part of the US. She got me some leads with her company and I am applying like crazy. So far three of them are up my alley and at least $20,000 more than what I'm earning. Two of the three are remote and one is hybrid.
Please pray that this might be an option for me to move ahead. I hate to leave where I am at but I gotta pay my bills! Life would be so much easier even with a 10-15 percent bump.

I hope you're able to get something new with a better salary. Good luck!
Just wanted to comment on your 10-15% statement. Within the same job, a 3% raise is considered a "good" one in my experience. Same at DH's company.

Can you request a performance review, based on you having been there for over a year now? In most companies, that is done on a regular basis - once a year or so - and that is usually when they offer you a raise. If that isn't an option, perhaps you could simply ask to speak to a supervisor (or whoever is in charges of salaries) and ask for a raise. The worst they can do is say no, but if they are still just sort of putting it off, then you will have a clearer vision of whether you should pursue employment elsewhere. Good luck!

At my job merit increases are once a year, and you have to have been employed for more than 90 days to be eligible. Is it possible you just missed the cutoff but will have one coming up soon?
I wouldn’t hold your breath for a 10-15% raise. My merit raise last year was 5% (I’m at a tech company) and the promotion I got a few months ago was only a 10% raise.
I think the best way to really boost your income in this day and age is to move around a lot, either between departments or to a different company. Loyalty isn’t rewarded like it used to be, unfortunately.

I hear you.. The best thing about my old job was that there was a pension. We'd go years without a raise.

I'm in the same boat, so I completely understand where you're coming from. At least with me working for local government my raises are automatic, but I've reached the end of them so I won't get another increase for 3 years. In the past when I've worked for private businesses the system of raises was very random and they were really stingy so I appreciate with government work that you know what you're going to get and that it's the same for everyone.
Keeping my fingers crossed for you to find a great new opportunity!

Can your skills transfer to a different field? Or can you work for yourself in some way?

Fingers crossed that a better opportunity comes your way. It’s good that you at least asked about it, so many times women just never ask so they automatically don’t ever get a raise.

I have poked around about how the raises worked. It seems to be once a year in June from what I gathered. So I started a year ago so I was only there six months when (I am guessing) there were rasies in June. And I didn't expect one that soon, especially since I totally changed job fields. I keep getting told how well I am doing and how I caught on really fast, so that makes me feel really good since I was having lots of low self-esteem issues. But then I heard it was twice a year they do raises, they do half the staff each time. So that would mean to me, that I should be coming around. Then I hear "If" they do raises. It just seems not set in stone.
So I think my plan is seeing if I can get one of these jobs that is much higher in pay and a much larger company (worldwide) and there is way more potential to move or get ahead (like my best friend).. and also yearly bonuses, if you qualify/earn it. Where I am at, there isn't a lot of places I could move ahead..other than a different department and it would be around the same pay, or I stay where I am at and could move up to an assistant director but that would be at least five years down the road. Which is okay IF I was making more money. I am just scared I'll put all my eggs in this basket and regret it. Just like I did before where I was there for 20 years and got nothing when I left.

It's ingrained in me. Although funny my dad always was looking for the 'grass is always greener on the other side' and changed job frequently. But yeah, he was an idiot. So having multiple jobs on the resume just pains me.. and I need to get over that.

This is why I left teaching in a private school in my state years ago for public school. We aren’t working as a charity, so you have to follow the money.

Most employers dont give annual raises any more. The way to make more money is to move on. Employers know this and dont care. They have their millions/billions earned on the backs of those employees that they dont give a shit about.

Well damn this morning two emails for two jobs already filled. I can't believe they are already filled. Maybe they have been posted awhile or an internal person filled it? I filled out a third application for another job at the same place (this one the pay is way more than double, so probably very demand). Not holding much hope now. I think though I am going to keep trying with this company and see if I can snagged something. I see two more new ones that just got posted and they are both much higher than what I am making.
