Yes, I will. I’ve always voted since I became eligible.
I’ve always considered my one vote very important. Not because I think I’m someone special but because in my lifetime, IL voted for a Republican president seven or eight times. We used to be a swing state, so this gal ain’t wasting the opportunity to keep her state blue. I tell anyone in my orbit willing to listen that every D vote is crucial. And with mail-in voting available in my state, there’s no excuse for not voting.
Further, there were countless black people before me who died or were beaten in pursuit of franchise, and even when they had won the right, were barred from voting by draconian and racist laws. Even now, there are, I think, over twenty states that legislated voting laws for the express purpose of freezing out people of color. And who can ever forget Shelby County? The late Ruth Bader Ginsburg said it was one of the worst decisions in her long tenure. That's the case where her "umbrella" analogy became famous: “[t]hrowing out preclearance when it has worked and is continuing to work to stop discriminatory changes is like throwing away your umbrella in a rainstorm because you are not getting wet.” My personal belief is for a black American not to vote is disrespecting those who sacrificed their lives and the people who continue to fight against disenfranchisement.

I won’t lie, for the first time since I’ve been able to vote I’m seriously thinking of sitting this one out. Please don’t, no matter your stance, cast your vote.

I will, but I live in a very red state. The Republican candidate running for office will get the electoral votes. So, my vote won't count once again. It’s still important to turn out.

In MN anyone can request a mail in ballot. I started doing that as soon as it became an option. I like knowing that my ballot has been received prior to Election Day. I think of times where I had to drop everything because something unexpected came up. I want to make sure that if I get into a car accident or have to take my husband to the ER because he needs an appendectomy my vote has been received ready to be counted. I think everyone should have that option. After being forced to go to the polls to vote with an active Covid infection during the last big election (I did mask), I always choose early voting now (but in a different early/mail in biting friendly state) I do hope I didn’t infect any of the head to toe red wearing poll workers subtly intimidating voters but what a stupid policy they had during the height of a pandemic.

Yes. Although there are many things about Trump, his recent barrage about NATO scared me to death. NATO is collective security for Europe and for us. With China rising and with Russia unstable, the implications are enormous.
ETA: Your periodic reminder that voting down ballot is important. Especially now.

I live in a swing state. I show up to vote every single time.
I am also a former Republican who started to lose hope for the party right around the gay marriage fight. At this point I may never vote Republican again. I find myself getting more liberal as I get older.

I’m registered as a Republican (because Utah), but considered myself an independent until the last few years. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to vote for a Republican candidate again. I'm with you. I'll never vote for a Republican again. I'm a former Republican and registered independent. It's more trouble because I have to change my party affiliation to vote in the primaries, but I want each party to have to work for my vote. I wouldn't bother if I lived in a red state like yours. Must be tough.

I was also a Republican that will probably never vote Republican again. Trump and the other candidates like him have pushed me extremely left.
It is interesting that quite a few of us here have done the same thing.
I will definitely vote. Trump scares me to death.

Yes, I will vote.
And for those who say their vote doesn’t matter because their state is solid red or blue—it is only that way because of the way people typically vote. If enough people said what you are saying and decide their vote doesn’t matter, things might be different (for better or worse). It isn’t a given that a state will always vote democrat or republican.

I have been voting for 56 years, vote in all local, state and national elections.
In all this time, the only election I missed was a local one that happened on a Saturday and involved city council member and I forgot it was election day.

My mother instilled the importance of voting in our DNA. I almost fell out of my chair when step son said he didn't vote. His reason: Then my name will be in the jury pool.
I remain appalled.

As a woman, I will never ever not vote. Women fought so hard getting me the right to vote that I'd never throw a tantrum and not vote because I didn't like my choices. What a disgrace!
Do I wish Joe Biden was younger or that the democrats had a succession plan in place, of course. But republicans and their ilk are truly a danger to this country and I will not sit back and do nothing while watching them burn it to the ground. I have zero faith in the American people and I think we get stupider with every passing day. And while I truly believe the experiment of the last 148 years is over, I will vote until the right is taken from me or I'm dead.

I'll vote.. I am not liking it at all this time around but I'll do it. I'm registered as Independent. I don't vote on party but on who I believe is the best candidate. I just have to write in Taylor Swift this time... (JOKING of course)

Yes. I've voted in every presidential election and all but one state level election since I turned 18.
(the one state level I didn't vote in was Mayor for DiBlasio's second term. He sucked and was a shoe-in)

We've put ourselves in this mess and I count myself among the guilty for not speaking up when things started to get ugly. Negative campaign ads, flocking to one-sided journalism outlets that vilify anyone who disagrees with them, going after their families, mocking their children, trotting out bad decisions from high school, and even trying to put opponents in jail. (I'm not talking about Trump. He belongs there.) What sane person would enter politics?
We've allowed politics to get too nasty for rational people. There's no room for civil discourse anymore.

Absolutely. From a solidly blue state, voting blue. Old > fascist.
And for all of you "I used to be Republican..." folks, I just hope there are a whole lot more like you across the country.

Even if you live in a red state and feel like your vote won't count, it's important! Kentucky has a Democratic governor right now because those blue voters didn't give up. Georgia has 2 Democratic Senators because those voters kept doing the work. A state can't go from red to purple if blue voters don't keep showing up. My town has been crimson red forever but we have a super dedicated group of volunteers who keep canvassing and organizing and recruiting and although we can't be called "purple" yet, we get a better showing every single election and actually Biden won at one of our precincts last election. We were able to help the Democratic candidate for an important local position win her race in November.

Yes, I could never sit this one out. It’s not like we’re voting between Biden and a sane person with whom I might have some policy differences, like Romney, McCain, or Bush.It won’t matter in my solid blue state, but I will do whatever I can to support Biden in our neighboring swing state. AGREED! And I am sending $$ to candidates in other states as well. As a result of my heartache and terror as to ramifications from the 2016 election results, I donate to candidates I support nationwide in races for attorney general as well as for House and Senate seats. I feel our country is on the brink of true disaster and that each one of us who agrees and has even $5 to donate should do so. The challenge is trying to figure out where our donations will make the most difference. I would love to hear real action step suggestions from people in the know... Hillary, the Obamas, Rachel Maddow and many others. Soon we'll have opportunities to write letters and postcards to people in other states and I implore all of you to consider doing so.

I take my civic duty seriously. I have missed one election due to illness. This was before early voting was allowed. Since then, I have not missed an election. I will vote.

The only thing that would keep me from voting this year is if I am dead or in a coma. I too live in a red state without much hope of that changing, but I don't care, I will vote anyway. I figure if Georgia can have two Democrat senators, there is maybe some hope for Missouri.
