So tragic. An event that should have been a happy celebration turned into a tragedy.

Run run, Missouri Gov Parson... Run as fast a your fist pumping Sen Josh Hawley can run in the Capitol Jan 6.... Patrick Quaife, identified on his social media as a KC alum, posted his observations after escaping the gunfire. "I just ran away from a mass shooting at the Chiefs parade where I saw the Missouri governor (the gun lover below) running scared for his life next to me with an army of officers protecting him," Quaife wrote, including a photo of the governor supporting "responsible, law-abiding gun owners.""I am so sick of these NRA funded politicians," Quaife added along with a support for gun control. www.rawstory.com/gop-governor-running-scared-shooting/

Children's Mercy is the closest hospital to that area, from our local news: A Children's Mercy Hospital Kansas City spokesperson told reporter Caroline Hogan the hospital is treating 12 patients — 11 are kids and nine have gunshot wounds. Truman Medical Center is treating eight gunshot victims, with two of those being listed in critical condition, and four other people with non-gunshot injuries. Yup, it was just our turn this time. Thoughts and prayers and all that worthless pile of effing bullshit. Completely agree about thoughts and prayers being worthless. Not only are they worthless though, but it's actually insulting to the victims. Rather than taking action to help prevent this from occurring again (protesting, writing to your local council or whatever the U.S. alternative is) and demanding change, they're spending their time praying. With that said, prayer can help some people with relief, and to grieve. It depends on what they're praying for. If they're praying for relief, okay, if they're praying for change then it's a waste of time.

I had several friends who were there with their children. They all made it home safe. My heart breaks for the poor woman who will never make it home to her children. And to everyone who was injured. Nothing will ever change in this country. We love guns more than human life. Pro-life my ass!

It's a policy choice for us to live like this.
A really bad policy choice.

They are saying they believe the shooting started because of a dispute between a couple of people. I was thinking this was the case, angry young men who shouldn't have guns. Why do they believe in settling arguments with guns?? My heart goes out to the family of the woman who lost her life, and to all those who were injured.

Exactly. I hate when people say it's people, not guns. No shit sherlock! But without guns, nobody could pull the trigger! I've just about had it. I need to stay away from FB because I get so heated. Basically told one jerk that until more gun lovers suffer a tragedy of losing someone they loved, they don't care about anyone else. If it didn't happen to them, it doesn't matter. I also told him to shove his gun up his ass. He replied back but I didn't read his reply. No doubt he doubled down. I feel like telling him that I'm not wishing death on anyone (I'm not), but it would be ironic if he met that fate of that woman who died. So yeah, better not go back into that post. Not many things bother me to this extreme, but I am so damn sick of this. Okay, so this turned out not to be a planned mass shooting, but they shouldn't have brought guns to the parade. It's definitely the guns.

Sorry for the profanity, but he's right about the ineffectiveness of good guys with guns. Uvalde proved that, too

Sadly, this is true www.nytimes.com/2024/02/17/us/super-bowl-kansas-city-shooting.htmlSuper Bowl. Parade. Shooting. Is there a more American story than that? The shooting was not directly related to football, in the way that a shooting at a mall is not related to shopping. But every such shooting feels like a crime against American culture. Settings have included schools, colleges, movie theaters, churches and synagogues, grocery stores, concerts. There is now a subset of mass shootings occurring at parades. No parcel of American public life feels completely safe. No shooting feels like a surprise, except to the people who live through it. “One of the cultural problems is that we are losing the ability to be in community with one another,” said Jason Kander, a fifth-generation Kansas City resident, a Democratic former Missouri secretary of state and an advocate for tighter gun laws. “And when we cannot safely gather and celebrate, it’s only going to exacerbate the problem.”

MO GOP withdraws 2 gun bills - for nowOne bill was to allow you to carry a concealed weapon on public transportation and in church, the other was to have you skip paying taxes on guns and ammo. I have zero doubt that they'll show back up once this blows over.
