Hero Arts posted about their spring Stamp-Along. It’s on April 13th & 14th. Early bird registration is $45. If you scroll to the second slide you can see the products they are using. I’m disappointed, I was hoping for spring florals. Looks like I’ll skip this one. http://instagram.com/p/C3WWq6aLWgT

Agreed I was not inspired by the products. I may end up doing it but not buying any of the products.

I like HA's florals -- simpler than Altenew's, less stylized than Pinkfresh's -- but I probably don't need more florals, so I'm not fussed about that.
The mandala products look interesting -- I have narrowly resisted Altenew's mandalas several times. I have some other Stamp & Cut messages sets that seem pretty similar to the smile one in this kit. I have some debate about whether I could use cute birthday animals, but I suspect if I've gotten this far without them, I'm good. I'm sure whatever birthday cards they make with them could use other images or something.
But those composition notebook products -- WHY?!
I did the spring event last year and actually found it difficult. I chose some products to buy and some things to sub in. Other classes I didn't plan to craft along because I didn't want to buy and couldn't figure out a sub. Some of my choices were not wise. But I have another year of experience now, so I think I'd make better choices.
I also think they start to show peeks at some point, don't they?

OH! The composition notebook stuff is part of this Ralph Tyndall collection they've been hyping. Yuck.

There was nothing that interested me in the slightest.

Yeah, not feeling these products, either. I'm often surprised by who gets deals with the various companies. Ralph Tyndall wasn't on my radar, at all, I've never heard of him before. Is he a popular crafter that I've been missing out on?

marg , he's all over Instagram! I've been following him for a while, and for the most part, he's pretty good. But the more complicated cards aren't my forte, so he loses me when he does those.

I have seen him here and there.
I just checked him out on IG and he has 720k followers with only 145 posts.
JM has only 115k followers with over 7000 posts.
I'm really shocked 😲 about this. I wonder why he is so popular? Am I missing something?

I think he went viral on TikTok and had a large following in a short amount of time. I followed him from the beginning. He just started card making about a year or two ago when he was working his IT job. Then he quit to do card making full time.
He seems like such a nice person and does lives often. And usually responds to questions and comments.
I kind of like the composition notebook card. Not sure if I'll sign up for this stamp along though.

I wonder why he is so popular? Am I missing something? That's really strange. He must be popular from something other than card making, because those numbers don't exist for strictly card makers. His cards are nice, I do like the composition book one (but not enough to buy the products), but they're not at the level of Yana Smakula, Jennifer McGuire, or Btarayoa, in my opinion, and those accounts have far fewer followers. I suspect he bought followers and likes. His engagement isn't high - just doing a quick scroll, only one post had massive engagement, with over 8800 comments - the top post on his account, from March 2023. It has over 3 million views. That's really unusual. The rest of his posts have a tiny fraction of that. Okay, did some more research just because I'm finding it interesting. One website that checks for fake followers said that 200k of them are fake. I don't know how reliable these websites are, though. However, a bunch of the follower accounts and comments are strange, too. He also has relatively few posts for that amount of followers - influencers with that amount post several times each and every day. He only posts every few days. Something isn't right, especially considering he's only been making cards for under 2 years. Last comment - just checked Tim Holtz's account, and he has 180k followers. No way is this Ralph guy's follower count real, unless he was well known before this for some reason.

marg, are you only checking IG? He started off on TikTok. I think he was one of the few cardmarkers on TikTok when he first started. Now there's a lot more cardmakers on there. He has about 1.5 million followers on TikTok. He used to make ASMR card making videos and if you look at his views, they range from hundred thousands to millions of views. After his TikTok got popular, he started his IG and YouTube. I don't think he buys his followers. I used to watch his lives on TikTok and thousands of people watch too and comment. His most popular video on TikTok (him making a hero arts card) has 48.4 million views. I'm glad he's attracting a wider audience to cardmaking. I followed him when he only starting making cards for fun after working all day. I really like him and he seems like a very genuine person.

Thank you for the explanation craftmepink. That makes sense with Tik Tok ,especially if he was one of the firsts carmaker on it. And I feel like his generation loves to support each other and love watching videos even if they don't make cards.

I just find it so hard to believe that would translate to Instagram followers, but who knows, things are weird these days..

The mandala stamp and stencil set are pretty. I’m not so keen on the other items. I’m another one who hadn’t heard of Ralph before. I do think it’s great that more guys are getting involved in card making. Maybe that will translate to a wider range of products / styles.

Aha! I found the post where you're all talking about Ralph Tyndall! It took me a while.
Anyway, I just haven't been loving Hero Arts lately. I'm not sure if they've changed or if I have figured out my own taste a bit better.
The only supply that catches my eye here is the smile/friend stamp and die set, which is the most basic but usable thing for my kind of cardmaking. There's another similar "hello there" one I have on my wishlist because of JMcG but I haven't been willing to exchange my money for it yet. None of the supplies in that picture would make me want to do this stamp-along... meh... but I do really like more than half of the instructors.

I saw cards from Kristina Werners class on Instagram. If anyone took that class and can tell me how she created the amazing black/grey background, I would be so appreciative. I also saw a post from Jennifer McGuire that she was not able to attend to teach. How'd that go over? http://instagram.com/p/C5uVS2ALUl7

pinklady , I didn't attend ,but did a little digging around. If you look it #heroartstampalong you can see different variations of the background www.instagram.com/explore/tags/heroartsstampalong/The card you like is made with this stamp. Probably stamped in black on a gray cs.https://heroarts.com/collections/cling-stamps/products/cg927-acanthus-bold-prints How do you think she achieved the metallic look on the background? Do you think this is stamped in versamark and brushed with perfect pearls on black cardstock? All the cards I've seen have the same metallic-y background and it's just amazing. I just can't pinpoint the actual technique used.

Wow! both cards are amazing. It looks like it's stamped in black on grey cardstock then ink blending on the edges in black. Or maybe embossed with pewter emb powder and ink blended on the edges. I'm going to try this. This might be the technique to get me out of my slump!

I have that stamp! The pattern is the stamp, not the background, so it's either stamped on black card stock with opaque metallic pigment ink or stamped in versa mark on black stock and heat embossed silver or heat embossed clear on gray then ink-blended in black.
I didn't notice that stamp in the list for the classes, though, or I'm might have shown more interest, darn it!

So probably the person just used what she had . Interesting about the stamp. Looking it all the samples and the design on the front I thought its the background that it stamps.

It just looks like a medium gray stamped with a background stamp in black than the edges blended to get a spotlight in the middle. Hopefully someone took this class and can tell us about it.

I'm looking at it in reverse! It was stamped with black ink! And that probably is a light grey cardstock! Here is another card I found. I swear I see metallic silver in this one too. So weird! http://instagram.com/p/C5yz_xVJOuE
