Anyone have a recommendation for a good black journalling pen? I've been using some if the sb.com fine liner style and I find that if you don't write with it in a certain way one end gets angled and doesn't write as well. I'd like how well the AE slick writers work but on regular surfaces it's not great. I tend to use a variety of sizes too.

I gave up using a "scrapbook" pen because they always dried out, or the lid disappeared in my scrap mess never to be seen again, or they just disappear off my desk because I have kids...
I'm currently using Pilot G2 gel rollers that I can get in packs at Target... As long as I am patient, and don't try to erase my pencil lines before it has a few seconds to dry, they work great and I have a hidden stash so I always have a pen. I am usually just writing on cardstock or PL cards, I don't know how they'd work on shinier stuff...
I also like Mr. Pen felt pens which are available on Amazon. They aren't flowy when writing like the gel pens, and they do have lids that can get lost but they don't need any drying time so they don't smear and they come in many colors.

I gave up on scrap specific pens and have stuck to my normal favorite pen- Pilot Precise V5. It dries quickly and works well on cardstock. I don't typically write on other media to comment on that.

I like the Sakura micron pens. They’re archival and come in several colors. I do like gel pens but since I write with my left hand I tend to end up with smudged paper and ink on my hand.

Sakura Pigma Micron pens are what I use too. I also like the Pilot G-2 in black.

I like a bold more thick looking pen that glides. I am loving Pentel energel (liquid gel ink) in .07 I use them on journaling cards and in my actual journal.

My favorite is pilot V razor extra fine point.
It is very black, write well, doesn’t bleed on cardstock.
The one con is that they smudge on shiny journal cards.

I've given up on the felt tip pens, they are too finicky with the angle you write at and the tips wear out so quickly. My favorite pen is the Sarasa Mark-On 0.5. It's a gel pen, but it's super bold black + dries really fast so it has all the benefits of a felt tip pen without the drawbacks. Here's a link to it on amazon: amzn.to/3HtzaeA

Thank you so much for the recommendations! I've got a few to try in my Amazon cart.

My preferred pen is Le Pen by Uchida. They are a micro fine point (0.3), so great when you want to write a lot in a small space. They don't smudge and dry quickly/immediately. I also have one of these in red but haven't tried it yet. I assume the quality is similar to the black one.
My preferred slick writer type is the one from SB.com in black. I haven't tried any of the color varieties. Haven't had a problem with it drying out. I store pens lying flat.

I am a huge fan of the Staedtler Triplus Fineliner. I believe that they are 0.3 mm, but they are much smoother and durable than other felt tip pens that I have used before in that thickness. I have a big set of them, and I am loving the dark grey colour for my journaling these days.

I bought a set of Stampin Up markers twenty years ago and I just ordered a black replacement marker for 3.50. I’ve tried lots of scrapbook markers, like creative memories and zig and none of them lasted or the tip got squished. I am hoping my new SU marker is as good as the 20 year old one!

Well the new black pen is not as good as the old one. The old one had a nice fine tip that was perfect for writing. The new one is a bolder tip more for coloring. I’m so disappointed. I hate change, it’s so rarely for the better.
