Canton Avenue, in the Beechview neighborhood of Pittsburgh, is one of the steepest streets in the United States, with a maximum gradient of 37 percent. Though only one-tenth of a mile long, for every 100 feet there is a 37-foot elevation gain.

When I was on a business trip to PA in the early 80's, they took us by limo to a beautiful country club for dinner. The drive up was so STEEP I couldn't believe people played on the golf course.
The house my mom grew up in near Pittsburgh was also on a steep hill.
