Headed to NYC this weekend with a friend to shop for our mother of the bride/groom dresses for weddings this fall. We have stores locally but another friend had a good experience last year getting her dress at Saks Fifth Avenue. Even if we don’t see anything, it should be a fun day. We should have enough time to visit Macy’s as well but hoping to find a nice place for lunch in the area. Any suggestions from the Peas or a local like Peabay. TIA

peabay If you go to Neiman Marcus and don’t want to travel to get lunch, Mariposa is good if they have one at that location. I but I’d rather find a local spot, when in Rome and all that. Have fun!

How fun! So, SFA is near Rockefeller Center (5th and 48-49th). I have to admit, I'm more familiar with downtown restaurants and am an "elevated comfort food" kind of person - meaning exceptional diners, delis and ethnic food haha But, if I was going wedding dress shopping on Fifth Avenue, you want a "ladies who lunch" vibe and I would go to Fresco by Scotto (full disclosure - I went to college with one of the owners, but it's still really good) or Il Gattopardo. Quality Bistro is very good too (that might really fit the bill now that I think about it...) A little more casual is Mermaid Oyster Bar - was recently there with friends and enjoyed it. scrappyesq would probably have more useful suggestions...

I have to laugh as my husband and I will be there in May.. for the first time. I have been watching TONS of food videos. (we are not big foodie type people) so this particular video is all the local type 'cheap' foods (street vendors/restaurants) that are really good. I have a huge list going. I know that isn't what you are looking for but thought I would share.. lol

If you are going for brunch time on weekend, you may want a reservation. Although, just 2 of you may be ok. I have had decent brunch a little more west at Lillie's Victorian Time Square and Dutch Fred's. Have a nice time and bundle up, it's going to be chilly this weekend!

Can always count on the peas! We are definitely not fancy people normally but if ever there is a time to splurge I guess it’s your kid’s wedding🤣I am just hoping for a fun day with a friend! If we find dresses that will be the cherry on top!

We shopped at Kleinfeld's (that's where I got my dress in 1987 - my dd didn't love the vibe quite as much as I did - but I got mine when it was in Brooklyn and was not at all what it is now); Lovely Bride and Grace Loves Lace. We didn't find anything on that trip but we went to DC a month later (where my daughter lives) and tried the Lovely Bride store down there and found something perfect.
Good luck! Have a great time!

You have always been a part of the heist. You're only mad now because you don't like your cut.

I'm sorry I missed this thread!!! Thanks for tagging me peabay . I hope you found someplace lovely, mmmom !! I don't frequent that area, but if I do I tend to either go on the outskirts to the east or to the west. Otherwise the crowds can be tough to deal with. My go to is menus.casalimonerestaurant.com/. I'm doubly hoping that you had a nice time at Saks looking for wedding dresses. Their bridal salon is swoonworthy. The selection. The women working there. Everything!!

Just had to report back on my NY shopping adventure. We had a great time, lots of laughs and just fun experience. Saks was like playing queen for a day and while we each came home with dresses, mine will be returned. The previous weekend my daughter and I had gone to some bridal shops and found several that I liked. If anything, this trip helped confirm I am on the right track with style and color for me. We went to lunch at the Mermaid Oyster bar and enjoyed our lobster rolls! Thanks Peabay! Keeping everyone’s suggestions handy for my next visit.
