Great news! Panda diplomacy is back: China to send the U.S. a new delegation of the black-and-white bearsThe move is a boost for “panda diplomacy” after the return of multiple bears to China last year raised concerns that U.S. zoos could soon have none at all. I remember when the first pandas arrived at the San Diego zoo and we visited them just before they left. That was before I had my son and you’re not a true San Diego mom of a toddler unless you have a zoo pass. I can’t wait for them to come back! We are at the zoo on a nearly weekly basis at this point.

wow, that's amazing! such good news. as the pandas come back, i hope they go to zoos that take better care of the pandas than the ones that had emaciated, unkept looking ones. those zoos should never get pandas again.

Yep, we had zoo passes too. My son even had a little zoo keepers outfit that he used to wear, while it still fit him, and he got such a kick out of people pretending that he really worked there. They would call him sir and ask zoo questions, and much to their surprise, we had been going so often that he was actually able to answer some of their questions. He was about 4 years old at the time and looked adorable in his little outfit and pith helmet. I think I still have that outfit in his baby box. I remember seeing Bai Yun and Shi Shi in 1996, and then several years later seeing the baby panda, Hua Mei, born there, a successful artificial insemination.

They are also in talks with DC. It has been too long since we have had our Pandas.

We are about 1 hour and 40 min away from the zoo and had passes. Way better than the LA zoo which is closer.

It is hard to believe that it has already been almost 5 years since the San Diego pandas went back to China. The zoo had such a nice panda exhibit built for them. Glad to hear it will house pandas again!

That is great news. I remember when they first came to the zoo. We used to have passes and I loved going to the zoo snd when my son was born taking him to.

How exciting! We were hoping to see pandas at the Taipei and Tokyo zoos when we were there but we're sad to find out they also had their pandas removed. Very excited to have them back in San Diego!

Anyone else keep reading this as "Padres are coming to San Diego?" I'm so confused ... aren't they already there? Pandas are good, though.
