Hello Peas, welcome to the weekend once again. Hasn’t this month just flown? I can’t believe it’s already the last weekend in February! Today I am looking at different blocked backgrounds. I have three sketches for you, and the backgrounds are divided into either halves, thirds, or quarters. 2 blocks: 3 blocks: 4 blocks: The twist is to change the proportions or style of each block. For example: Halves - Divide the page into two blocks that are different widths; divide the page in half vertically instead of horizontally; use paint on one half of the page. Thirds - Divide the page into three horizontal or vertical strips of varying widths; divide the page into three sections diagonally. Quarters - change the four equal sized squares to four different size rectangles; change the squares from cardstock/paper to paint; divide the page into four diagonally. Alternatively, you can change the size/number/orientation of photos as your twist. For my layout, I have chosen to use a background divided into thirds. For the twist, I have divided the page diagonally instead of using vertical blocks. It's a scrap lift of a layout I saved from The Digital Press gallery. I can't link it as the site has since closed down. If you are part of a team in Q1, you can claim 5 points for completing the challenge, and 2 points for the twist.

Thanks, AussieMeg for this and all your other fun sketches and examples this month! So many fun ideas here in one challenge! This one has the potential to be used over and over again. Great sample: will leave love when I visit the Gallery.

Thank you AussieMeg - your layout is beautiful with the flowers and stripes. For me - the three blocks on an angle was a challenge indeed but I love how mine turned out

Here is my take on the first sketch. It will be the February page in my 2025 family calendar. I went with a 1/3-2/3 split for the twist, then tipped the background on its side one way and rotated the photo block the other, but I hope you can see the sketch in this page, AussieMeg. Creepy Santa by BreetheFlea, on Flickr I went with the second sketch, and turned it horizontal instead of vertical. Because I used a 5 by 7, I removed the rectangle, but pretty much everything else is on there somewhere, except I forgot the date...
