We will be there for part of the weekend to visit my BIL and his fiancee. They just moved there at the beginning of the year for his job. He has to work some in the morning and she may have to also. If we get there and can't see them until later, is there anything we should check out while we wait?

St. Charles is lovely but if you want to kill some time, I suggest you go to the next town - Geneva. It has lots of nice little shops to browse in and and a lot of good restaurants. There’s an old house converted into a shop called “The Little Traveler”. You can spend a lot of browsing there but there a lot of other shops all along Third Street and also along the major street.
Google Geneva, IL as they have a really good website with tons of information.

I thought the same thing as ChicagoKTS - Geneva has a very nice downtown and third St. seems to be the main area. Be sure and get the Carmel and cheddar popcorn from Kernels on State St..
St. Charles also has a nice downtown but to me it is primarily restaurants. Bars. It is nice if you want to stay in St. Charles.
