Does anyone know if such a thing exists? I love foam tape, dimension etc but hate all the plastic waste. I have seen Jennifer McGuire pop up sentiments with additional paper strips so I have been doing that, but would love to find some recycled/sustainable foam tape or foam dots. I have done some searches but nothing really comes up that is dimensional.

FWIW, they’re probably less of an environmental issue than embossing powder (a/k/a microplastics).

Yes. Unfortunately, I like foam tape and heat embossing more than I like glitter....

I just use scrap cardstock like JM. I prefer not to have as much dimension as foam gives anyway, and I have tons of waste pieces between 6x6 paper pad backings/covers and scraps from cardmaking. I usually add 2-3 layers. It uses up something that would go to waste and prevents me adding a plastic product to my cards so they are more (theoretically) recyclable. I have used the thin fun foam as an alternative which doesn't have any backing sheets, unless you get some with pre-applied adhesive, I guess. I just use liquid glue. I don't think there's anything much that can substitute for thin foam + tape except other kinds of foam + adhesive and I don't think anyone uses enough of it that there's much market to green it up. I'll be interested to hear if someone has found another solution though!

I dislike foam tape and don't use it often. Like Jo mentioned, I prefer the JM method of using scraps or fun foam.
I don't know of any foam tape that doesn't have a plastic coating backing.
I have the big mama roll of 3M tape (the $30+ from Amazon) and I wish I hadn't bought it. It's turning yellow and I think after a while it becomes unsticky. So I actually use wet glue on the tape. Plus that gives me some wiggle room to get everything straight. But it's not thin enough sometimes.
I really don't like the foam tape with the red backing. Man that stuff is static-y.

I'm not really concerned about foam- there isn't a huge amount of waste. I use Scotch double-sided tape as my general adhesive, however, and I have tons of the empty plastic dispensers. Terracycle used to recycle them free but now they charge $89 for a box to send them back in. Crazy. I just looked at their website, though, and they will recycle Diva cups free. Hmmm. I did not know that was a recyclable item.

I use chipboard. All the pieces that I don’t like from kits, and I’ll also trim down the backing skeleton on the chipboard sheet and use pieces of that. Works perfectly.
