I just think she overdid it a little bit with fears for her kids and migrant crime. Didn’t she help write the border legislation that she voted against? 🤦🏼♀️

Well, if Republicans wanted a contrast to President Biden, she was that. At home, in an informal setting, young and a woman. That might work better if the Republican candidate was anyone other than an old white man.

I just think she overdid it a little bit with fears for her kids and migrant crime. Didn’t she help write the border legislation that she voted against? 🤦🏼♀️ Eta-Sorry, I was wrong. She was part of the negotiating team, according to Rachel Maddow. She had this to say. Essentially talking about the great replacement theory without mentioning it by name. rollcall.com/2024/02/05/senate-supplemental-receives-frosty-reception-from-some-members/Alabama Republican Katie Britt, an appropriator and member of the Senate GOP’s extended leadership team, accused Biden of enabling the border crisis, and said the package would not stop the president from “continuing his mass migration agenda.”
She introduced a bill last year, maybe the Senate version of HR 2? www.rounds.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/rounds-britt-and-colleagues-introduce-legislation-to-strengthen-border-security“There is an unprecedented humanitarian and national security crisis at our southern border,” said Britt. “This is a direct, avoidable result of the Biden Administration’s dangerously weak policies. Hardworking parents across our nation want their children to grow up in safe, strong communities, so that they can reach their full potential and live their American Dream. This legislation would help secure that dream for families in every corner of our country.”
Yes, I want that, but their border plan is not the path to safe communities. Or maybe we just have different definitions of safe communities. Not questioning the need for immigration reform, but personally, I would feel safer with common sense gun legislation.

The Rep who yelled LIES was Rep Derrick Van Orden (R-WI). He is the one who yelled at the interns who were laying on the floor to take pictures of the dome of the rotunda in the Capitol on their last day. BTW: he didn't just yelled at the interns, he used several obscenities...

Maybe this was her audition..

Rep. Crenshaw is on CNN saying that the speech was a campaign speech, not to compromise and draw people in. Others are making similar comments. (So I guess he gets a bit more aggressive, it's too much?..)
He does say that the bipartisan border bill may not be dead yet!
Oh! Crenshaw would easily support a federal 16 week abortion ban.

I’m watching late. This woman is nuts. Ironically talking about a senior that is having trouble paying for food or meds when Biden us trying to actually help while her side is working against bringing those costs down. Talking about how out of touch Biden us about raising kids or grocery shopping - umm TFG has done neither , ever.
Punchline on the world stage - seriously who was constantly laughed at and who wants to pull out of NATO. But yes Biden is making our allies worry.
She just so seems like a cult member or something there is just something not right about her.
The whole fighting the strongest empire …
She is just creepy.

We saw the answer to that. MTG needs a muzzle for SOTU, because she is an uncouth boor who is incapable of keeping her mouth shut.

Just a bit too on the nose huh 🤣😂🤣 I don’t think they thought that through. 😂 They never would have had a man give the response from a kitchen. It says so much about the current GOP. Yikes. 😬🥴

Oh,!! The performance was so bad that some Republicans watched the high-profile speech with a grimace. A GOP strategist told The Daily Beast that Britt’s delivery quickly became a gossip item Thursday night among operatives connected to Donald Trump—something that could have potential implications for her consideration as a vice presidential pick for the former president.Brendan Buck, a former senior adviser to Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) and Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI), also acknowledged that Britt’s “delivery was unfortunate.” “She was clearly overcoached,” Buck said on MSNBC. Britt went for a dramatic performance with her State of the Union rebuttal. But her delivery turned out to be so dramatic that it ended up being distracting at best and disingenuous at worst. *** The GOP strategist actually likened Britt’s speech to Rubio’s water moment—saying Britt’s performance was actually worse and that she “lowered her stature.” A Britt spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment. www.thedailybeast.com/official-katie-britt-gop-response-to-state-of-the-union-has-republicans-losing-it

heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/march-7-2024The Republicans tapped Senator Katie Britt (R-AL) to give their rebuttal to the speech, evidently hoping to contrast her youth—she’s 42—with Biden’s age. But while her team helpfully distributed talking points to Republican influencers before either Biden or Britt had spoken, suggesting they describe her as “America’s mom” and say that Biden’s speech was “tone deaf” while hers was “the perfect pitch,” the fact that the Republicans had a female senator give what could be the most important speech of her life in a kitchen seemed to tell its own, more powerful, story.

Britt was obnoxious. She looks ridiculous in her perfect little kitchen wearing her diamond cross. She looked like an old time housewife waiting for her husband to arrive home. I couldn't stand her tone either. Like a very bad actress. Couldn't they find anyone more professional to give that speech?

You're a fucking prop, if TFG is back in office you'll be back in the kitchen (or worse) with the rest of us. It is funny, I have mentioned on here that I used to moderate a national online baby board and that we had some Domionist/Christian Nationalist members. They of course felt very strongly that a woman's place was raising children, taking care of the husband and home, all of that, but a few of them did have (or had women in their communities who had) pretty serious public jobs. When I'd politely ask about the . . . contrast, I would receive answers along the lines of "some women are called by God to leadership roles to do His work here on earth", and I think about that every time I see something like this.

The voice is on purpose and has a name "Fundie voice". Kelly Johnson and Michelle Duggar have the same thing. That voice. I kept thinking, is serious? I've heard that voice when we go up against "Moms for Liberty" here in Florida. Such brave, selfless women always trying to save us from some imagined threat while brandishing their bibles to beat us over the head with. The diamond cross was a nice touch, much more tasteful than a flashing sign that says, "Listen to me because I'm a Christian." I guess this is the best the GOP could come up with. Who else are they going to trot out to appeal to women? MTG, Gropey Boebert? They've got nothing. Republicans actually put Katie Britt in a kitchen.😳😂 This glimpse at America's future was not lost on me. They missed the mark if, as the pundits pointed out, they were trying to appeal to soccer moms. As a former soccer mom, I thought this was obnoxious. Which intern is getting fired today for alienating millions of women? I can't wait to see what SNL does with her speech.

Regrettably, I think she's right. www.nytimes.com/live/2024/03/05/opinion/thepoint#katie-britt-kitchen-responseThe Apocalypse in Katie Britt’s Kitchen Michelle Cottle I had to wait until the morning after to watch the Republican response to President Biden’s State of the Union speech, and let me just say that Senator Katie Britt is a bit much for Friday pre-caffeine.
The Alabama lawmaker, the youngest Republican woman ever elected to the Senate, came out chewing the scenery like she was auditioning for a soap opera — overwrought, whipsawing between radiant delight and tremulous grief, beaming at inappropriate moments, pausing too long at others, dropping her voice to a breathy near-whisper to convey intimacy.
And, my oh my, the apocalyptic vibe. Sitting in her kitchen, that good ol’ gal went all in on putting a worried-mom spin on Trumpism’s American carnage theme. We’ll skip the partisan dishonesty for now. That’s pretty much a given in these situations.
Britt’s over-the-top performance earned her a beat-down on social media and beyond, with widespread predictions that she will wind up the butt of a Saturday Night Live cold open very, very soon. “Deeply weird” was my favorite description. As I type, she is still trending on X.
But here’s the thing. Overemotional, apocalyptic, inappropriately personal, unbalanced — this is how an awful lot of Trump voters are feeling. They are convinced the American Dream is indeed on the verge of collapse, that the end of civilization is nigh, and that the liberal hordes are coming for their families. They are looking for leaders who don’t just validate their panic but seem to share it. It is perhaps worth noting that Donald Trump was singing Britt’s praises afterward on his site: “Katie Britt was a GREAT contrast to an Angry, and obviously very Disturbed, ‘President.’”
The senator’s performance may have given me a morning migraine. But I’m guessing there were plenty of other folks, including much of the MAGAverse, who found it spot-on.

I thought Biden’s SOTU speech was excellent insofar as he addressed all the major issues and challenges we’re facing, but this part of his speech was the one I found most affecting. I was a teenager when Bloody Sunday happened. We saw a delayed broadcast of it on our black-and-white TV (there were no live feeds back then). It was beyond horrific. It was savagery I’d never witnessed before in my then-young life. My parents said to me and my siblings that we’ll never forget that day and what it meant. They were right—we never did. Singing during the civil rights protests was not just a way to unify; it was used by black protestors to steady themselves and give them courage because they knew those billy clubs and whips would come down brutally hard on them and some would die. Black people paid a very high price to obtain rights and I’m pleased that Biden honored Ms Fikes. But more importantly, he reminded the country that commemorating isn’t the solution; the solution is restoring the voting rights protections the Supreme Court had undone.

As a women who made it to be a senator I’d never stoop to giving a speech in my kitchen. It’s so cliche and as for her whining about the border, then vote on the god damned bill instead of sitting on it for a year.
I did like the part where Biden responded to the say her name, correctly, on the spot, unscripted. I don’t think that had the impact the GOP wanted.
It just made me want to shout vote on the border bill then you idiot. lol
ETA:
Oh my I didn’t put 2+2 together right away ( and obviously neither did the GOP )
She gave her speech in her KITCHEN on the eve of international women’s day?!?? Really? She couldn’t see the disrespect in that? To herself?
