I have never been a fan of remaking movies or tv series. I like franchise movies like MI & Top Gun or a series that are somewhat connected like the Iron Man, Captain America, Avengers, Spider-man & Ant Man movies.
I loved the Thin Man movies and wouldn’t want to see them remade with current actors. Seriously you can’t beat William Powell & Myrna Loy’s portrayal of Nick & Nora Charles IMO. But I’m always curious about what other people think. Here’s the list. Agree or disagree. Or are there movies that should join this list? Sound of Music The Wizard of Oz It’s a Wonderful Life Breakfast at Tiffany’s The Godfather The Birds - By the way the old school house in the movie is still standing next to a white church that Ansel Adams took a picture of in the town of Bodega, CA. The pier in the movie at Bodega Bay is still there but changes have been made to it over the years. Casablanca Rocky Grease Titanic When Harry met Sally Forrest Gump The Breakfast Club A Christmas Story Jaws Pulp Fiction The Truman Show The Shawshank Redemption Airplane Toy Story

Agree - get some new freaking ideas and leave the classics alone! lol
And yes - I’m aware these are not all “classics”

I think there are precious few movies that should be remade, unless it was something based on a book and not done well. Based on that I think Wrinkle In Time should be remade. That movie was horrible and the book is really great. Of the movies listed I think these could be remade, but I don’t think I would like them in any event.
Breakfast at Tiffany’s . This one probably should be remade. It is incredibly offensive.
Casablanca. Overrated and not at all the romantic classic it is made out to be.
Forrest Gump. Just dumb.
The Truman Show. Interesting premise, Jim Carrey is just hard to watch.

The first thing I thought of when I saw the thread title was, "When Harry Met Sally." Glad to see you included it in your list.

I don't really see the point in remaking anything.

The original Home Alone and Christmas Vacation. I would hate to see either of those remade.

I'd love a Jaws remake that's a bit more faithful to the novel and has better special effects than the original.
Some of the films on that list are just bad and don't deserve a remake (Grease and When Harry met Sally I'm looking at you!) others like Casablanca are perfect as they are.

I think the problem with doing a Jaws remake is that the director and cast are so iconic. The special effects are truly awful, but you can't beat the direction and the acting.

"All of the above" I don't think any movie should have a remake. It never works...never.

"All of the above" I don't think any movie should have a remake. It never works...never. I beg to differ. An Affair to Remember was a remake. The 1939 Wizard of Oz was a remake as well. The cartoon Alice in Wonderland was a remake of about 5 or 6 previous versions, although the one with Cary Grant is pretty entertaining the cartoon one is the best I think. Little Shop of Horrors with Steve Martin is way better than the original version with Jack Nicholson. Hitchcock did 2 versions of The Man Who Knew Too Much. The second one with Doris Day is much superior to the original. I prefer the Johnny Depp Willy Wonka to the Gene Wilder one. My husband would say the new Dune movie is better. There have been several versions of a Star is Born. I have only seen 2 and prefer the new one to the old one. Anne of Green Gables was done at least once before the Canadian version in the 80s and it was awful. The 80s version was incredibly well done and faithful to the book. But even if you don't agree with the rest of the list I dare anyone to say that the version of Affair to Remember with Cary Grant is less then the version with Charles Boyer because that is nonsense. The Boyer version is fine, but it isn't An Affair to Remember.
